Plants and Filters?
MickS77 replied to Sandra the fish rookie's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I had this sad looking Pothos at my desk at work. I brought it home and put a cutting of it in each of my fishroom tanks. Its taken off quite well and is even more filled in now.- 23 replies

I have two Traxxis nitro engine trucks. A T-Maxx and this Rustler I play around with from time to time. Not as much as I should, they are great fun. I painted that Pro-Line body but then I never wanted to bash on it too hard haha.

My substrate is probably 10% plant weights

I do the same thing. I probably have a pound of them on standby at all times 😆- 2 replies

Co-Op Easy Fry/Small Fish Food vs. Xtreme Nano
MickS77 replied to Andrew Puhr's topic in General Discussion
The fry food varies in size. Some bits like dust, for the newest fry to eat. Nano is a consistent size. Photos are from the coop website.- 3 replies

More surface agitation will help clear it sooner, with an airstone or directing flow upwards.

I usually let it sit overnight knowing I'll want to feed them out the next day. I have 4 bottles I rotate between for feeding. You''ll get some after a couple hours but more than enough if you let it sit longer. You could probably set it in the morning and have enough to feed later at night.

What salt do you use to hatch Brine Shrimp?
MickS77 replied to Levi_Aquatics's topic in General Discussion
I use the Solar Naturals salt for water softeners. I haven't tried anything else, eagerly waiting for the coop to release theirs. -
Good Option for Planting Stem Plants
MickS77 replied to Bill Tidwell's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I've used the coop plant weights to make small bunches of stems for planting. I do leave the plant weights in the substrate indefinitely. -

I think it would be a great choice. I'd make sure enough chunks are getting down to the bottom for the corydoras.

I setup the Oase filter simply with low maintenance in mind. I arrange the pre-filter with different PPI foams from Oase. Starting with the 30 PPI (orange), 45 PPI (blue), and 60 PPI (black). I'll be interested to see if the foams fill evenly with debris or if the top foam does all the work. The filter also comes with foams to fill each basket in the canister. I don't want to be opening the filter too much to clean the basket foams so I decided not to use them. I instead filled and arranged each tray with coop bio-rings, about 9-10 lbs of them. I oriented them with the flow of the filter in mind. I think this will allow for flow through setup without a lot of clogging. Found the coop bumper sticker fits perfectly on the Oase 👍

I found it melts plants more than helps them. You don't NEED co2 to have a successful planted tank.

I had a local glass shop cut some custom lids for the tank. The glass is 3/16" thick and I had them put a 3" hole in the center for feeding. I plan to cut 4" squares of glass myself to cover the holes. Each sheet is split into two halves so its easy to get in and out of the canopy doors for maintenance. I wanted to go this route over the standard hinged lids because I want to run a Stringray light at the front and back of the tank. It will also be nice to not have a shadow cast into the tank from a typical hinged lid. I think it'll also be beneficial for feeding. Feeding from the middle of tank the fish won't get trained to swarm the front glass every time someone is near the tank.

Zebra Danios. Cheap, active fish, and hardy.

I have two 20H Aqueon tanks that didn't appear to have enough silicone but they've been holding water. I haven't had any issues with dollar per gallon tanks.

I like using Seiryu stone. I think the grey color contrasts well with the green of plants.

I also use the Inkbirds, I've had no issues with them.

This was my first thought given that pointed leaf.
