  1. On the sand note, that CaribSea Sunset Gold is my favorite sand, really great natural color.
  2. Seems likely seeing as you have some in there already. I've found these to be a great cleaner snail in my tanks. They reproduce faster when excess food is present.
  3. The advantage is they break down fish and plant waste and eat excess algae. They can be beneficial to create a real eco-system in our aquariums.
  4. I would recommend a sump as well. With that bioload having a sump full of media would be great. It would also be a lot easier to maintenance than multiple canister filters too. I have a Seamless Sump running my living room with DC return pumps and it is very quiet. There is a learning curve getting the overflow properly tuned and silent.
  5. I've had it warp over time with the heat from lights and the tank.
  6. I'm sure the mini or maybe the medium pre-filter from the co-op would work. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/sponge-filters
  7. I would think about if the home's heating and cooling system (forced air or radiant) can handle the humidity of having a fishroom.
  8. This is my little setup for spawning Tetras. I use a stainless steel mesh to protect the eggs. I use peat pellets for tannins and RODI water to soften the water. Before adding the pair the males and females are separated for a few weeks for conditioning.
  9. I've been letting this little 5.5 gallon go wild on my fishroom desk. I'm kinda getting fond of it now. It's mostly snails and a few shrimp. Tanks full of algae like this are great for raising fry as well.
  10. Gabe Posada from Jack Wattley Discus mentions (in the video below) fry may be attracted to the black rim of the tank instead of the parents and he keeps his water levels lower to prevent that. Maybe the bottom of the tank should be painted light blue too.
  11. I use something like the Fine Poly Pad the coop sells when I replace mine.
  12. Tetras. All the Tetras. I like the variety of colors and sizes, always an active fish too.
  13. You mean the Loyalty Badge? Those change over time depending on how long you've been a member.
  14. Xtreme Nano, every fish I have goes crazy for it. Feeds especially well in a squeeze bottle from Walmart.
  15. I've made something like this. My LFS sells small clear rigid tubing in varies sizes, I believe its for replacement of undergravel filter uplift tubes. I got one in a 1/2" OD and slipped it into some soft silicone tubing. I added a spare primer bulb for starting a siphon. I like using soft silicone tubing for siphoning because of is flexibility and you can easily pinch it to stop or slow the flow.
  16. Fancy Bettas, only wild type Betta for me. Balloon Eye Goldfish, those are just sad looking.
  17. You could try Hikari First Bites, I've used that on tetra fry.
  18. Cory has a good video I've learned some tricks from.
  19. Started quarantining fish earlier on in my fishkeeping career. Not worried so much about chasing numbers and just let my fish adjust to my tap water parameters. Used sponges filters sooner.
  20. I really like Java Fern. Its always grown well for me and easily propagates.
  21. I had this sad looking Pothos at my desk at work. I brought it home and put a cutting of it in each of my fishroom tanks. Its taken off quite well and is even more filled in now.
