  1. i picked up a hyger light not too long ago for my 55. seems to get the job done. plenty bright, 3 modes, white, white/red/blue, and red/blue. has like 5 brightness settings, and runs under $60. now its not fancy and programmable form your phone like the expensive lights, but for me it works. how long it will last remains to be seen however.
  2. i think this every time i see the "we dont ship live fish" header. LOL
  3. ive never used any kind of back ground. it is my belief it is more for the person to see fish better, not so much for the fish. certainly nothing wrong with having a back ground though.
  4. if the stand you are placing it on is flat, and level, there really is not a reason for a pad.
  5. most plecos do like to eat wood, but algae wafers are a good supplement also. as for repashy, most of my fish didnt really care for it, but the bristlenose pleco's tear up the repashy community.
  6. thats just fine. if you really wanted it to stay in 1 spot, you could put the bannanas into the gravel a 1/4" or so. definately not too deep though or you risk rot.
  7. i agree, looks to be a female. males tend to have a very bristly nose which is very obvious once they get some age on them.
  8. they are skittish. larger numbers seems to help though. i originally had 8 of them, when i added another 8 they became less reclusive, though still on the shy side.
  9. ive kept friends and family supplied with guppies and pleco's for many years.
  10. definately toss them in a bucket of water, and naturally better if they are in light. as long as they stay damp, they should be ok.
  11. a school of about a dozen celestial pearl danios would look very cool swimming around that tank.
  12. the bottom pic looks to be some form of gar.
  13. with no other fish, they will likely be fine, as long as you dont have a filter intake they can get sucked into. co-op fry food should be fine for them.
  14. relax, take a breath. give the fish, and yourself a little time to calm down. if the rasbora got a physical injury from being stuck, there is little you can do other than wait to see what happens.
  15. java ferns will get brown spots on them, it does not mean they are dying. anubias, and java ferns are fairly low care items. a little light, and some nutrients in the water, and they tend to do ok. they do grow slow though.
  16. i agree with the above. amano shrimp can flat disappear when they want to. not saying they werent snacked on, but very likely they are hiding.
  17. the prime is likely giving you your readings of ammonia. if it were me, id just back off a bit on the water changes. say give it a few more days in between , and see how it settles in.
  18. much like the above poster, i feed many different foods. doesnt matter too much, other than it be something they actually eat.
  19. 20 some years ago i had 2 different types of sturgeon, and 2 different gar. now i keep little bitty tiny fishies.
  20. just my opinion, but best to run the lights when you will be around to view the fish. algae growth is more about how much light, vs. when its light.
  21. life is too short to let how others enjoy their hobby bother me.
  22. just joined myself, from the north end of the cities.
