  1. the only repashy ive tried is community, and my bristlenoses like it better than any of my other fish.
  2. lots of variables in timelines depending how well things go, buy i would definately get the plants in and going first thing. guppies for sure thrive better with plants to hide in and browse on.

    Guppy

really hard to name a strain on a female guppy, except in very rare cases where they are very colored. likely it is of the mutt guppy strain, and its offspring will be a rainbow of color.
  4. ill give #1 a shot. if your numbers all look good, and the tank doesnt look dirty, and the inhabitants look healthy and happy, you dont really need to do a water change. the more well balanced an aquarium is, the longer it can go between water changes. let the numbers, and the visual clues guide you. if numbers start climbing, or the tank looks dirty, then its time to do something.
  5. things will balance out faster, and easier with the bacteria starter. the bacteria is basically a massive jump start to your cycle. in other words, it really gives you an almost instant cycle. you have plants, and snails so you are well on your way. with the additional bacteria, a little less ferts for a while, and not too many initial water changes the tank will balance out quickly.
  6. put it in today, test your water tomorrow. when the numbers look good, add fish. i would also cut back to 1 or 2 pumps of easy green a week, until things settle in
  7. yes, to do it right you will need a bunch of tanks. to do guppies cheap and easy, try mutt guppy's. they dont bring as much money, but they sell a ton of 'em.
  8. a couple good coats of paint will help retard water. at least good enough that if you wipe it off in a reasonable amount of time, it wont hurt the plywood.
  9. i would get the bacteria starter in the tank now. you have plants, you have snails, the bacteria will grow.
  10. the trick to make sure nothing has leached into the water that goes into your fish tank is to run the water for a few minutes before putting any in the aquarium. elements that can leach out of lead/copper/iron pipes only happens in any quantity when the water sits in the pipe. the flowing water wont get the bad stuff from the pipes. so run enough to flush out the water that has been sitting in the pipes, and proceed with water changes etc.
  11. you are on the right track with guppy lines. many takes on exactly how to do it, but start with a pair, breed them, then breed the father to the females, then split into 2 lines, and then when they degrade over time, you can cross back from one line to the other.
  12. take your time with the project. this is supposed to be a relaxing hobby, not one that adds to life's issues.
  13. i would search dewalt for that model, and see if they show a load rating for it.
  14. most plants will tolerate some salt. heavy doses can cause them to melt back.
  15. ive seen them around on and off for decades. if you like 'em, buy some. something new in the tank is always cool.
  16. just a random thought, you said you have new media, and new sponge etc. it is possible you killed off the good bacteria in the tank, and it is now trying to cycle again.
  17. pretty common. mine are often found above the water line.
  18. i have to tell you, i get a chuckle every time i see your screen name.
  19. keep them well fed. they are slow breeders, so dont expect an explosion of them like pest snails.
  20. some cory's just do it. like people, some are wound tighter than others.
  21. with any kind of treatment, if you have carbon in your filter, pull the carbon out.
  22. forgot, you can also try aquabid.com never know whats for sale there.
  23. aquahuna has been out of nerites for quite some time, but if they dont have them, nerites are commonly found in about any fish store, including the big box stores.
