got a piece of spider wood for my big tank. let it soak for 30 hours or so. ran out of patience, and screwed it to a piece of slate to keep it down.

Building a stand questions; buying lumber
lefty o replied to Kat_Rigel's topic in General Discussion
very good point for those that havent worked with lumber before, a 2x4 is not 2x4. that will really screw up your plans if you dont account for it.- 17 replies

Building a stand questions; buying lumber
lefty o replied to Kat_Rigel's topic in General Discussion
you tend to have to pick through the pile of 2x4's no matter where you go. as a side note, be nice and put them back on the stack when you are done finding straight ones. a powered miter saw, or an old fashioned miter box and hand saw are how you get straight cuts. find a friend with a saw, or if we knew your location, maybe someone here could help you with the cutting. as long as you draw up a plan, and figure out your dimensions, it takes very little time to do the actual cutting.- 17 replies

Questions about attaching plants to wood
lefty o replied to Maggie's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
as mentioned above, super glue gel, a few drops for each plant, press plant and hold for 5 or 10 seconds. should be ok planting other stuff in the gravel, once they start to root they wont go anywhere. -
Should I be worried about adding new fish to a tank with shrimp?
lefty o replied to ZoeyFish's topic in General Discussion
id not be overly concerned about the shrimp if you are adding the same type of tetra, but a quarantine is still the best bet. i relearned the need for quarantine recently, the hard way.- 6 replies

decorations How to prep a branch for your aquarium?
lefty o replied to giantlumberjack's topic in General Discussion
scrub it clean, and if possible i would boil it just to ensure anything that may be on it is killed off. -
that looks really good. i see tetra's galore, and maybe some harlequin rasboras. so many choices.

if you are using it on the outside, i can see no problem with it. -
very cool. ive been trying to get my red cherry's going, but it seems my cpd's have a taste for the eggs.

i feel for you, ive given away thousands of guppy, and pleco babies. when it looks crowded, and the water parameters start going wonky, then you know you have too many.

i think you are ok, that is until they start having babies. at that time, it will likely get out of control. all depending on how many of the fry get eaten.

beginner plants bought this week aquarium co-op
lefty o replied to laferme's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
depends on the plant. some plants can stay in the little basket forever, and some will do much better out of it.- 8 replies

the abrupt change may have done it, but worth trying to warm it up. i remember in high school science class freezing gold fish in liquid nitrogen, and thawing them out, and they survived just fine. dont give up hope.

"whachyou talkin' bout willis!" dont know why, but instantly i thought of gary coleman.

id add some plants sooner rather than later, as they definately help keep a tank in balance.

And Now Green Spot Algae
lefty o replied to Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
nerites are about the only thing that seem to touch green spot algae. i know it has been a while since the original post, but i would cut back some on the easy green for a while. when nutrients in the water are more than what the plants need, it seems to me that is when algae becomes problematic.
