  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I did trim out a large chunk of over grown christmas moss shortly before this, like maybe a week or two. I thought I would be giving them a bit more space to swim. Maybe I just removed a 'security blanket'. When it regrows out maybe they'll be a bit more comfortable again. There was also the loss of their Amano tank mate before the moss trim. Started thinking this weekend about replacing her this last weekend but never made it out to the LFS.
  2. I have an 8 gallon planted aquarium with a few female guppies I kept from the final litter (the mother’s ok just separated the male out as it was getting overwhelming). They had always been around and would swim right up to the top at feeding time. About a month ago I caught my 3 year old open face palm the glass hard. He loves the fish so I know he didn’t do it maliciously. They haven’t been the same. Every time I walk in the room they bolt to the back corner under the sponge intake, behind some plants. It’s unfortunate cause they just started getting blue color in their tails and dorsal fins like their mother. is there anything I can do to coax them out or is it really just a matter of time? I assume they’ve been eating since they’re not dead and I’ve been trying to get the food to fall around where they hide.
  3. Thanks for the thoughts. I hadn’t considered the light bleed. And “difficult” was probably the wrong choice of wording. More annoying. I’ll probably leave as is.
  4. I've had those extendable bracket type lights that basically sit on top of the tank for a while on my 10 gallon but I've always found it difficult to clean or feed. I have to move the light all the time. I was hoping someone might have a suggestion on stealthily raising them up so I can easily open the tank and I don't have to drill one of those wire closet shelves on the wall behind my aquarium. Which I just realized is gonna look awful. I could just look into buying taller lights or one that is more compatible with a taller frame. Would prefer to keep the light I have and just raise it though. Depends on the cost I guess.
  5. Thanks for the thoughts. Yeah, I figured it might take a while considering gestation and maturity. It would be a fun experiment.
  6. I had a question about getting a color out of shrimp. About a month ago I found some shrimplets I must have missed in my blue dreams I’d got 2 weeks prior. Maybe some eggs I didn’t see that were about to hatch. Well I noticed 3 of them have patches of black on them. I was wondering if it’s possible to breed that into an entirely black shrimp down the line? I’ve already separated them just in case.
  7. Cool. Already leveled with shims and hooked the stand to the wall. Thanks!
  8. Just picked up an Aqueon 10 gallon rimless. My first was a Petco brand 7 gallon rimless with a foam pad already in place and no frame. I was wondering if I would need a pad for the 10 gallon? It has a frame only around the bottom and the glass bottom is held on that. Only the bottom frame would be touching the stand. I thought I read if there’s a frame you don’t need foam. Just want to make sure before I start setting this one up. I assume I should just pick up a pad just to be safe.
  9. Hi all, I am looking for advice on switching filters. More like how to not mess up the bacteria and cycle I just got going. TL;DR: Should I take the fine sponge off of the HOB intake and hopefully it would fit the new sponge filter and continue using that while removing the HOB filter? Or if the old sponge doesn't fit, should I just let the new sponge filter sit in the tank and for how long before removing the HOB? Currently running a newly cycled 7 gallon rimless aquarium. Planted, scaped, and newly stocked with a nerite and 6 cherry shrimp ( + one shrimplet that slipped into net at LFS as they were bagged up). I am currently using a Tetra Whisper pf10 with coarse sponge in the filter and a finer one on the intake. I also have an air stone running. I would like to consolidate them into a sponge filter (which I just ordered from the shop here) as the top that came with the aquarium does not quite fit as it should with the HOB. I've been putting up with the misalignment since I got the filter a while back but my nerite is getting adventurous and I'm realizing I need that top fitting properly. I was thinking I could take the fine sponge off the intake and hopefully it would fit the new sponge filter and continue using that while removing the HOB filter. If the old sponge doesn't fit, should I just let the new filter sit in the tank and for how long? Still new to a lot of this and just worried that might crash the cycle if I remove half the sponge media with the old filter. I do have dragon stone, driftwood, mosses and sand substrate (in the front) so there should be still a lot of surface area. Any thoughts?
