  1. I love the roots that shoot from floating guppy grass down to the bottom of the tank, like a waterfall effect. It is a very useful plant to have around.
  2. What is everyone's favorite aquarium plant? Low tech, high tech, foreground, midground, background, floating, what is the one plant that brings you the most joy in your aquarium? I know it's hard to pick just one, and it may change over time, but if you had to pick one right now, what would it be?
  3. This could be sprinkled with a touch of bias, but I would say I'm for it. Especially for conservation purposes. 🙂
  4. You could always build a terrarium for the little guy if you're too worried about it, though it seems to like it's new home too much to leave. Amber snails like to stay close to water.
  5. My 14g Sparkling Gourami/Pygmy Cory/Sulawesi Malawa shrimp tank (I don't know if they're going to make it once the Sparkling Gourami grow up. Borrowed everything except the spiderwood from my 55 gallon (the random "junk drawer" of my tanks). Once everything is established a little better, I'll swap the sponge filter out with a smaller one and play with the tank more, but for now they seem to be enjoying the mess.
  6. Worm with claw machine grabber on the end only makes me think of hydra. Actually that is a pretty perfect way to describe hydra that I would have never thought of doing myself. 😆 Google hydra and see if those are the claw machine grabber worms that you see. If so, I don't think there's really any harm in having them in your tank unless you're raising shrimp or fry.
  7. I finally got mine cleaned up, and excess silicone removed. I don't plan on using the pedestal with it. I remember seeing something about sticking a mouse pad under it in an AC video awhile back. Does it have to cover the entire bottom? I'm not very familiar with rimless tanks and self leveling mats. Since the pedestal itself doesn't actually cover the entire bottom, would it be okay if the mat doesn't either? 🤔 I found an extra Milwaukee mouse pad laying around this morning. It's 1/4" thick, would that work, or should I invest in an actual mat for the entire base of the tank?
  8. Swiss Tropicals. If you paint/add a black background, it really blends in and just kind of disappears. Only downside is having to silicone the glass strips on, but I use them for 10s that were dollar per gallon anyway. I had some glass strips cut locally and just got a big sheet of poret foam and some individual jet lifters to do 2 more rows, saved a bit for multiples that way.
  9. I have both corner matten filters and sponge filters. They do provide more surface area, and I like the way they look, but I actually still have a regular sponge filter in my shrimp tanks. I am going to move a handful of shrimp in one of the tanks with a matten filter to see if it makes much of a difference, but mostly I just know they will crawl behind it, start living there and I would rarely seeing them again. I like the corner matten in smaller tanks for the surface agitation across the length of the tank, but I will never stop using sponge filters.
  10. @MattyIce Awesome Black Magic Taro! Mine got hammered by a hail storm and I lost all my big leaves. I'm trying to over winter indoors, but I've never had the best of luck with that one.
  11. I'm also a big fan of 40 breeders. Big enough to keep a decent amount of fish, easy to stack, good price if you get it at the right time and not too hard to haul. Least favorite is 55 gallon. It looks nice from the front, but side view is just sad. I have only owned 1, but won't get another.
  12. How do your Blue Polar and Blood Parrot get along? I have a Convict X parrot, but she's a hateful little thing. Did you decide what you were going to add in with the BP? The tank is looking nice! 😊
  13. I will be sure to keep an eye out! Right now they are itty bitty tiny. I do love them already! Inquisitive little fish, always watching everything, you can see them thinking. I keep 2/3 of the tank shaded, they really seem to appreciate it. I can sit there and read and then look over and all 6 of them are staring at me like they're trying to figure out what I'm doing. I'm thankful for this thread and your videos @Daniel without them, I probably never would have owned these neat little fish. 😍
  14. I used copper on mine years ago, that along with manual removal worked for me, but I wouldn't feel comfortable putting inverts back into a tank that has been dosed with copper. You can try to keep up with the manual removal. You could also try traps, but I'd imagine if the traps will catch leeches, they will also catch shrimp and snails. If you were going to move everything over temporarily anyway, traps would be worth trying.
  15. These guys are my worst offenders. I can't have any rooted/stem plants in this tank with the eartheaters, but I do have various Anubias on little rocks and driftwood, they try to bury those often. They make mountains in their tank.
  16. Not super rare, but not a common livebearer and my favorite among the uncommon livebearers, my Xenotoca doadrioi colony. Fearless little Goodeids packed with a ton of personality. My Zoogoneticus tequila splitfins and Limia nigrofasciata tie for second.
  17. They are leeches. Most likely found their way into the tank on plants. As far as treatment goes, I've never treated a tank with other invertebrates. The treatment I used would kill any invert in the tank along with the leeches, so I'm not sure what your options are. If it's a severe infestation, a break down might be the best option? Maybe someone else has had this issue in a shrimp tank and may be of more help. On a side note, your Rotala looks amazing!
  18. I don't have a lot of patience and most of the time end up attaching things to wet driftwood. I remember awhile back reading that cyanoacrylate is moisture activated, so water actually cures it faster (not suggesting you put it straight in your tank to cure wet glue, I have seen uncured glue release vapors under water) If you know exactly where you want to put things, I don't see any issues and I have never had a problem with it.
  19. Welcome! You have nice looking tanks! I especially like the 40 gallon Walstad. Post pics once your Limia perugiae arrive and get settled. They are good looking fish and I know I would love to see them 🙂
  20. Awwww I've always wanted a Dolphin Mormyrid. I've seen people train them to go through hoops and they look super playful all the time. Cute! Maybe some day.
  21. I just got mine yesterday. In the right lighting and at the right angle, they all have blue eyes. Does that mean I have all males? 😬
  22. I really like the Macmasteri. Very good looking fish. Still looking for females though. They each have their own 20 gallon set up. They're a bit shy, probably because they're alone at the moment.
  23. I only have experience with Cacatuoides and Macmasteri, I keep both in harder water and higher pH without issues and the Cacatouides are showing spawning behaviors. I think it will probably depend on the type you decide to keep. Unfortunately my experience with Apistos stops there so I cant advise what would do best for you, but I'd love to see what you end up getting. 🙂
