  1. Hmmm El Silverado Endlers kind of look like little mimes. 😁 That's about as drab as they get though.
  2. I raise baby mysteries with Endlers. They are about as nice as they come. They never nip at them. Unheated as well.
  3. Worms are a natural part of having an aquarium, especially if you don't have fish to snack on them. Most of the time they go unnoticed. It would be very difficult to tell you what kind but unless you physically see them coming out of the Ramshorn snails, it is doubtful that they are parasitic.
  4. My biggest pet peeve is when people in the hobby think that there is only a single right way and a billion wrong ways. There are so many different ways to do things in the hobby and they all work out differently for all of us. I think one of the best parts of the hobby is the journey to finding what works for you. We should all be open to trying new things, listening to other people and respecting other methods.
  5. The yellow patch is what is called a saddle. It is the shrimp ovary where the eggs develop. Got yourself a lady shrimp there 😉
  6. They definitely grow. I admit, I left one unattended in a shrimp tank, it didn't get flipped or turned over much at all and the last time I saw it, it had grown another "ball" on the side of it instead of staying a nice round shape. I also tore one apart and super glued it onto manzanita years ago, didn't rinse it well enough and little fuzz cladophora chunks floated around and attached itself to everything.
  7. I did 1" soil, and 1" sand in my 5 gallon Marineland Portrait. I was worried about substrate taking up a lot of precious real estate in what was already such a small space. Looking back, I do wish I would have added at least another 1/4" to the cap. Either more sand, or some fine gravel. I don't have much of an issue with the sand holding the plants down. I used medium Black diamond blast media as a cap because it was what I had on hand. The soil has worked it's way upward in a couple of spots and I don't believe that would have been an issue with just a little more cap., but I'm really not sure it's much of an issue now either. As far as a shopping list goes, the Ammannia gracilis is loving the soil, and with the lower light that I have on the tank plus the floaters shading a little in some places, it's turning all different shades of green, pale orange and deep copper. Beautiful stuff.
  8. It must be Cory breeding time, I just found 4 baby Cories during a water change today. I pulled the ones I found, no idea what type they are though. I have Brochis, paleatus, trilineatus, and lucomelas in there. Fry of any kind don't usually make it in this tank, so I was surprised to see them.
  9. I'm following this one for sure. @Streetwise should be at the top of that list though 😁
  10. 2 Japanese Neon Blue Endler males with my EBA growouts. Keeping a close eye on growth with the Acaras, but I had nowhere to put the Endlers, and for some reason these 2 males are best friends and constantly harrass everything else. They gang up and bully everything. I've tried them in 8 different tanks and the EBA juvies were the only ones that put up with their nonsense. Will have to move them again soon, but for now it works.

The shrimp looks like a bit tight around the base of the carapace. It's associated with a failed molt. Sometimes it just happens. Sometimes it's diet related. More often, it's too much calcium.
  12. Trilineatus for sure. Your Cory seems to be enjoying the fake one, that's all that matters 😁
  13. 😄 Yeahhh she does not play well with others.
  14. My Amazon Puffer carries snails around for a few minutes and keeps coming back to check if I'm going to give him blood worms or krill. If I do it too early, he will drop the snails and eat those instead. He checks several times before he finally just eats the snails. And my Convict, who is usually a little pig, inhales everything the second it hits the water and splashes around when eating, will carefully take Vibra bites to her cave and eats them in there. She only does it with Vibra bites. I think it's her favorite and she doesn't want there to be a chance for anything to take it from her. Which is fine, but she's in the tank by herself.
  15. I keep Malawa shrimp with my Sparkling Gouramis. It hasn't been very long, but so far they ignore them almost entirely. They do stop and look at them occasionally. They mostly just pay attention to the other Sparkling Gouramis in the tank. Now if I end up with shrimplets, I doubt that would be the case, but larger shrimp they haven't messed with. I have seen videos where they take down a shrimp now and then. I should also add that Malawas are smaller than Neos and CRS, and mine are in a much smaller tank than 55g.
  16. I have these tubes in shrimp only tanks, but have removed them in tanks with fish. I've had issues with fish swimming in the tubes and freaking out. They always end up taking the food out of the dish and playing soccer with it all across the tank anyways. Great for shrimp tanks though.
  17. I was born into the hobby. My mother was a Betta and Cichlid breeder, so MTS was normal in my house. She had tanks all over, dedicated live culture shelves, grow out tanks. They were mostly confined to a "fish room" but there was spillover. There's always spillover. I remember moving across country, my parents had to rent an extra moving truck full of tanks, stands, buckets and bags of fish. I've had at least 1 tank in my room that I was entirely responsible for taking care of since I was 7 years old. Out of 4 kids, I was the only one that had any interest in my mom's aquatic obsessions. I was always drawn to feeder guppies as a kid. I loved their patterns, they were cheap (I liked to pay for things on my own) happy, and in a way I felt like I was rescuing them. I got a pair of Jewel cichlids when I was 10 and absolutely fell in love. They were grumpy, stubborn, ornery little explosions of glittery color that ate earthworms from my hand. My childhood experiences with fish still carried over into adult years. Sweet little prolific Livebearers and grumpy Cichlids are what fill my fishroom today.
  18. So, these guys grow SUPER fast.... here's an update of this little guy 2 weeks later... Apparently can't take a picture of a different animal without something fish related in the background. Newly painted with fresh siliconed glass braces for corner matten filter 10 gallon tank....NERM
  19. Looks a lot like a baby Mystery snail, from the trailing foot. Nerites tend to be more rounded at the back foot area. Those others are ramshorn snails. Maybe if you can get a photo of it from the other side, it would help.
  20. Given the dimensions of that particular tank, I'd say it's probably going to be maxed out at a Betta and some shrimp. Anything more may be a little cramped and uncomfortable. A Betta would really enjoy most of that space to itself. The tank looks great! I especially like the sprinkle of pea pebbles.
  21. Spots usually end up as stripes when older. Looks like you've got some baby chestnuts there. Congrats on the babies! 🙂
