  1. I've noticed all my platies have been exhibiting mating behavior and some of them have gotten fat. So I'm not sure if they are pregnant or have dropsy. As far as I can see they don't have scales protruding from the sides. My temp is 78 my ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates is 5 heavily planted
  2. So I have 3 african dwarf frogs in my community tank. I believe 2 are female and 1 is male. The last few days I've noticed the male has mostly been up in my hornwort near or at the surface sometimes he will keep just his head above the surface. I just want to make sure this is normal. He doesn't seem like he's in distress. He's still swimming down and getting food. The tank is pretty heavily planted ammonia and nitrite are at 0 nitrates are at like 5. I feed a mix of flakes granules frozen food freeze dried foods. I have never seen the females do this the most they do is float around the surface for a couple minutes but he's up there for pretty long stretches. I'm assuming it's fine I just want to make sure I keep on top of it if there is an issue. Thanks
  3. Has anyone had any experience with keeping these two in a tank together? I have a 125 gallon planted tank with neocaridinas. My wife really wants 2 Chinese algea eaters but I can't find much info on them regarding shrimp. From what I have read they can show aggression but it's usually towards other algae eaters of a similar size. I posted about this in some Facebook groups I'm in and I'm getting mixed info some people say they are fine some say they are demon fish that will murder everything. So any info would be great thanks
  4. Where do you guys buy plants that aqaurium coop doesn't sell? I want to get some guppy grass. I'm worried because I bought some plants on Amazon and ended up with dragonfly nymphs in my tank. Anyone have good recommendations?
  5. So I have 35 neocaridina in a 125 planted tank with bladder snails. One of my red neocaridina has a yellow patch im not sure if it's just his internals showing through a childish shell or what. So any ideas would be helpful. Sorry for bad photos he's always on the move so it's hard to get a good pic. Also the water is cloudy because I just vacuumed the sand.
  6. So first off this forum has been fantastic with helping me with stuff so thanks to everyone for that. So I have a 125 gallon planted tank with flourite sand substrate with bladder snails and 35 neocaridina. My issue is every time I add fertilizer to the tank the water gets crazy foggy until I change it out. I'm using easy green all in one. I started out using 12 pumps since it's 1 pump per 10 gallons that would make the water straight up green. So I started doing less and less. I stopped all together but then my non rooted plants started going brown. So I do a couple pumps and right back to foggy water. I can't seem to find the balance with this. Any suggestions? Also ammonia 0 nitrites 0 and nitrates like 5 to 10ppm
  7. I finally caught one I had to tear down my whole tank. I caught like 7
  8. So I've taken everything out of my tank and caught like 6 or 7 of these. Im pretty sure they are dragonfly nymphs. But im worried now because there's so many I can't be sure I got them all. I don't want to kill all the snails in my tank is there anything i can do that will kill the nymphs and not the snails. Also is it possible there are still eggs or would they have all hatched by now?
  9. So I have been seeing what I thought was the dead body of an insect floating at the top of my water. I just assumed it was a bug that got trapped under the lid so I'd take it out. Now I think it was actually molts. I was looking at my tank and saw what im pretty sure was a dragonfly nymph. It was on a leaf i grabbed my net and when i tried to catch it it crawled off and i couldn't find it. Im not sure how to get rid of it but even worse i have my shrimp coming in in like a week. right now it's just bladder snails and plants in the tank. Does anyone know anything i can do to get rid of this(these?) thing(s)? This is the first time I've noticed it and it's pretty freaking big like maybe inch and a half. Also I couldn't get a picture sorry.
  10. Ok so I've heard clams can help keep your tank clean they seem like and interesting addition to a tank but I've heard they can be dangerous If they die while buried. My tank is a 125 gallon somewhat heavily planted and I plan to eventually have snails shrimp neon tetras platies and guppies. What are your thoughts on clams in a setup like that? And have any of you had good experiences with freshwater clams?
  11. So the TLDR: I need help identifying these tiny worms. I have a 125 gallon I planted it and set it up 5 weeks ago. I've been cycling it before I put shrimp or fish in it. There are bladder snails that hitchhiked on the plants though. About a week ago I noticed these tiny little worms on the glass. They only seem to hang out on the glass. They are maybe .2 or .3mm long. I thought they were planaria and used panacur c to kill them but they didn't die and I looked up how big planaria are and they are supposed to be like .1 to .3 inches so yeah basically I'm just curious what these guys are and if they would be dangerous to fish shrimp snails, or anything else i might put in the tank. Thanks :)
