  1. Hey fellow fish Nerms, In one of my previous posts I asked you guys, "where should I position this tank" its a fluval spec 5 gallon. Well I decided to ignore everyones input because I thought of a even BETTA 😉 idea (not that your ideas weren't good its just I didn't want the tank taking up so much space on my desk) I have decided to put it on my dresser. See the picture below. Anyways in the post I said I wanted an all white platinum betta, well I changed my mind. I went on aquabid this morning and saw all these GOURGOUES bettas for only like $20 (the platinum ones I had my eye one were like $30, and the ones on aquabid were WAY nicer looking). So I plan to make my first order off aquabid in this comming week. But before I geta betta I need to aquascape it. My idea was a Monte Carlo carpet with Amazon Frogbit tucked away in the back corner (I will be making a barrier so that the frogbit wont spread past it). I plan on then doing a peice of small dragon stone for in the center of the tank, no co2 injections. I have decided to do a Journal for this betta tank, My plan is to go to the fishstore on Saturday and get everything I need for the tank.
  2. I bet its the secret formula to get rid of all algae, once and forever!!!
  3. I think corydoras would go great in that tank! I'm not sure how much of an algae eater they are but if your looking for algae eaters here is a list: -Ottocinlous -Hillstream Loach -Bristlenose Pleco -Amano Shrimp All of these fish/ invertibrates will do fine with your tank mates. (the amano shrimp is bigger then other kinds of fish, so it shouldn't be eatin)
  4. They all die before there even home? Only thing I could think of is when corys are stressed they release a deadly toxin (not to humans but to other fish). Transportation can be very stressful for fish.
  5. I see that you have some african cichlids. You could add a bristlenose pleco and he may eat some of that algae for you. Keep in mind you still need to feed bristlenose plecos.
  6. All out of reactions for today. But I love those pictures.
  7. I'm not a channel member. All though I didn't know that member only videos would eventually be released to the public, thats good to know.
  8. Nope, algae is not harmful to fish at all. Infact in their wild habitat they have algae everywhere!
  9. I have a internal filter (the fluval spec 5 gallon) the flow is too much for my betta so I put a intake sponge on the outake, I wish I had pictures but I cant seem to find any. works great though.
  10. get a bucket of old tank water and a old toothbrush or new toothbrush that you plan on never using again. And scrub the algae off the plants with the old tank water and the toothbrush.
  11. why do don't you do just one spongefilter I beleive the Aquarium Co-op Large Sponge Filter would do the trick. All though if you still wanted to the combo you could do: -Aqua Clear HOB or Seachem Tidal 35 HOB as well as the aquarium co-op large sponge filter.
  12. I don't know what could be wrong. But what I wanted to say is, that just because the fish is labeld a "beginner fish" doesn't mean everyone is going to have the best of luck with the fish. I know I don't have good luck with guppies. So don't feel down about this situation instead rise over the occasion and learn from all the other wonderful forum members that will help.
  13. I've heard african cihlids do this but other cichlids don't do this (angelfish, apistogramma, rams)
  14. A few things: -In my opinion after the angels have been introduced they are out and about and almost never hiding and always looking for food. -I have never kept discus but I have read that they are simillar to angels like the above. -I would do discus with colorful cardinal tetras, I think that would look great! the tetras will serve as dither fish for the discus, but I feel like you have to wait a little for the discus and angels to get adjusted to you.
  15. This is by the Michigan State University and shows how different fish show their age. They don't go too in depth in what fish but they specifaclly talk about blue gill https://www.canr.msu.edu/resources/determining_the_age_of_fish_e1774 It talks about counting the growth of the rings called the anuli, I think all fish show this.
  16. I love how excited dean is when he is on camera, its kinda funny at times. Looking good guys👍
  17. Do you have a breeders basket for the fry to go in? I wouldn't medicate the tank because I'm not sure how to fry would react.
  18. Here's what I would do: -Put the fish into buckets using the water from the tank, and put your filter into the one of the buckets -Drain the tank, and start rescaping -Fill the tank back up -Put the old filter back on -Acclimate and add the fish The fish don't need to be in the buckets for that long just until the rescape is finished. When cycling the tank you are not cycling the water, but you are growing benficial bacteria that usually colonizes on the filter. Most will be in the filter and others will be in the substrate and very little are on the decor and glass. Because of how much is on the filter simpliy keep the bacteria alive by putting it in a bucket with the fish and use that to cycle your tank.
  19. i've had a more overstocked tank then that and was fine, just keep up with your weekly matnience
  20. We need the water parameters and some pictures to see if its a bacterial infection or ich. Here is what ich looks like: And here is what a fungal infection looks like As you can see, ich is smaller white dots and is more consitant through out the body especially the fins. Where as the fungal infection is one white dot (maybe two) and they are usaully larger.
  21. I have angelfish that I've named, Little timothy (he was really small when I first got him, and one of his pectoral fins was smaller then the other) and Bruce. But in total I have 3 angels and together their group name is "angel gang", not really sure how this name came about it just did i guess.
  22. Super awesome scape but when those plants grow in its going to look even better!
  23. Glad to see your enjoying them, they are super fun and enjoyable until you try to catch them, lol.
