  1. Water parameters: nitrates:20 (normal for the tank) nitrites: 0 ammonia: 0 temp: 78 Tank size: 10 gal This is my betta fish niv, I’ve had him for about 2 years in the same tank with no issues. About 5 days ago he suddenly developed a kink in his side and has had trouble swimming, laying on the bottom now. I fed him bloodworms that morning and he was totally normal then that night he was on the ground. He still tries to wiggle to me when I get to the tank and tries steal the cories food, although I have been fasting him for about 4 days. I did the trio of treatments immediately but I’m not sure it did anything. Ive looked everywhere and I’m not entirely sure what it is, maybe swim bladder? Or an injury? He isn’t particularly swollen but where his “bend” is there is a small bump. Any help would be appreciated, I love this betta, he got me into the hobby
  2. Hey guys I have a weird situation going on, my mama guppy who I’ve had for a few months developed a big lump on her head a little over a week ago, I thought it was a tumor but decided to do light maracyn and paracleanse for a week to see if it helped, it didn’t help much if at all. since she is still active and eating after a week I figured I’d start a second cycle adding ich x this time, 2 days in and now the lump looks smaller and the half of her head where it is turned black overnight.. anyone have any experience with this? I thought of euthanasia but she is still eating so I’m tempted to wait it out.. I’m treating the whole tank (no qt available) and don’t wanna use salt due to live plants and shelled creatures any insight would be nice, thanks!
  3. Ok, I considered salt as well, I’m thinking I’m going to do a full treatment of the maracyn and paracleanse and see if that resolves it since I’ve already started it, and if not I’ll separate her and try the salt method. I have an empty 1.5 gal setup I got as a gift so I’ll cycle it just in case I need it to quarantine her
  4. Thank you! I just bit the bullet and ran to the co op for the trio, should I just use one dose and let it sit and only treat new water from a water change, or apply some daily? This is my first time really dealing with fish illness haha
  5. My guppy had a white spot that is almost banded around the end of her tail show up overnight, I’m trying to identify it as it doesn’t really look like parasites but it’s also not fuzzy like the images of fungus I’ve seen online. She swims fine and still has a voracious appetite. In terms of things I know have changed, I added some crushed coral in because I had some of what I think was stress related deaths before I introduced these new guppies (a male and female killed eachother, and the second female died a few days later after looking stressed) and people on the forum recommended coral based off my water parameters (soft water and low ph). I added the crushed coral maybe 2 days ago with her and the male in the tank before introducing 2 new females, and did notice her rub on my anubias while I sprinkled it in, but she doesn’t do that commonly. If you guys have an idea on what it is and treatment options I would love to hear it, if needed I can try to set up an old 1.5 gal tank to separate her, but it would be easier to treat in the main tank, as I would need to cycle the 1.5. But I have live plants and cherry shrimp
  6. I typically dim the light let them float for about an hour then drip acclimate for about 30 minutes, but admittedly the most recent guppy that passed I didn’t drip acclimate since my gf was impatient, she did seem to develop stress after about a day or 2, becoming skittish. I did water change the day after she was introduced so that might have done something. She seemed better after adding more friends and wasn’t skittish, but I do think she was stressed out My tank is on my “bar top” on my kitchen facing towards the livingroom, I was concerned this might be stressful for them, but the traffic isn’t super crazy and I didn’t put any meds because honestly I’m still pretty new in the hobby and didn’t wanna accidentally nuke my tank lol, I did put an Indian almond leaf in there though because I heard it can help reduce stress naturally
  7. Thanks! My ph is around 6.9, gh is 150, and kh is around 80. I’m realizing now this seems pretty low for what guppies need, they like with some pretty happy cherry shrimp and pink ramshorns
  8. Thanks guys! I’ll look into getting some crushed coral, I have some cuttlefish bone I’ll add ASAP, to answer some questions, my ph is pretty low (6.9) I have some Indian almond leaf I can add that I use for my betta tank. My GH is around 150 and kh is 80, I didn’t even really think to check those and focused on the nitrates and nitrites! I can add some crushed coral tomorrow, sounds like you guys think it’ll help!
  9. That makes me feel a lot better lol, I keep other fish without much issue and was like “why can’t I get ahold of these beginner fish”!
  10. I’ll have to recheck for more details after work, but I remember my nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia read zero. My water is kind of soft
  11. That makes sense, I added cuttlebone last night actually hoping it would help!
  12. I’m new to guppies as I just wanted a fun fish in my 7.5 gal planted tank with shrimp. I got a male and female pair from the Co op and after a couple days they started hiding in a cave.. I had people tell me to get a second female in the mix because they might be stressed.. so I did, but when I got back from the store I found both guppies dead with their tail fins ripped apart.. the next day I got another female and a male because the new (and alone) guppy seemed skittish and I figured company would help. And it did. Until a few days later she was randomly dead. I did multiple water tests and changes through this process and my parameters were always good. I cycled for 2 weeks with old media and My tank temp is 78 degrees. I currently have a male and female and don’t want them to kill eachother like the last pair. So I’m at the crossroads of deciding whether to rehome the guppies or just getting another female and hoping it works. are these types of hiccups typical in guppies? If so I might keep trying, or am I seriously screwing up here? Should I separate the male and female? Thanks guys. I attached an image of my tank( with the first pair) and of my newest trio of gups, the yellow female is the one that passed randomly.
