  1. @Andrew Puhr@Rube_Goldfish the general rule is if it doesn't fit in a fish's mouth, it should be safe. however this rule was definitely crafted around community fish, like danios, and cories, and livebearers. ACs being more aggressive, i dont know how it would play out. @Andrew Puhri think as long as your tank has plenty of hiding spots, and you make sure the fry get food (simple as sprinkling in a few pellets in the back, a few times a week) you should be good, as long as the abovementioned rule is followed.
  2. i can zoom in on the picture, but it doesnt help. i am looking for more detail, which zooming it does not help with. here is what i see when i zoom in: they look short for detritus worms.
  3. @Kelly S rosy barbs will pick at hair alges, but im not sure about the duckweed.
  4. @CrashBandit05 can you please get a closer picture of the worms, its hard to tell from this picture.
  5. John is feeling mean today, flaring at the platies i guess ill just chuck some betta pellets in his tunnel...hopefully he can get them before the plateis can. im looking for garra guy, i havent seen him in a while, but then agin, its a mostly black fish, against a mostly black substrate, and a black background, camouflage also dwarf aquarium lily is doing something interesting, so ill have to check it out.. people say anubias are slow growers, IDK what im doing but this nana petite disagrees. in like 3weeks, its already doubled in size, from where i cut it. i can grow anubias very well though, im not sure what im doing that they love so much.
  6. i plan to go to the LFS over the weekend, but as always, my shopping list is bigger then my budget. my shopping list: Friend for this guy: ( ill ask, and if they will accept snails from me later, then preferably female (ill try my best to sex them) otherwise, ill just chose one i like. dechlorinator (im running low) silicone for various DIY projects. Hikari normal sized algae wafers, i hate the minis for MY applications. Fish bags (they give me those for free). My budget: $10. the dechlorinator is my top priority item, then the algae wafers, then the mystery snail, silicone is last. though i doubt i can get all the items with my budget. I may have to barter a little... fortunately my LFS knows me as a semi regular customer (ive been trying to buy more from them now, as appose to ACO) , so as long as it is only a 1 or 2 dollar difference, i should be fine.
  7. so a blue heart votes for both? just a BTW, im against this game as it messes up the dailies and the reputations.
  8. this is correct. due to their native environments (rivers) that they come from, many rainbowfish enjoy flow in their tanks. this is perfectly normal activity.
  9. and hopefully a few weeks after that some cories...
  10. @Ryan1988 yes easy green increases nitrates, but also nutrients for plants like iron, potassium, and magnesium.
  11. @Brian - Advanced Aquarium sounds fun! thats a large pond, but its true that those large species need it.
  12. based on your pictures, it appears you have both males and females in the tank. that just causes breeding. and you dont need to do anything. if you leave it, chances are it will get eaten, and if not, its a free fish! i understand not wanting a population explosion, but 1fish isnt an explosion.
  13. that sounds right to me. i think its a geophagus.
  14. well, the store needs to sell fish... and fish cant live in very high ammonia... and this is the wrong store, with the wrong kind of fish to sell dead fish...
  15. @Pepere@Guppysnail so this is only a problem with shipped animals? but not with animals that were scooped from their stable tanks say an hour before?
  16. A while ago i made a thread about trying to grow terrestrial mosses submerged. naturally based on how i phrased it, and because that was 1week in, there was pushback. I now have real results of this experiment after a month or two. Here is a picture of the moss i was experimenting on: and here is a picture after a month or two of the moss growing submerged (all the bright green tendrils are new and submerged, though they dont show up well in the picture) : so what looks like the fuzzy tendrils on the moss are the new aquatic growth. this post will probably also get pushbacks, i will disclaim it by saying i am just sharing my experience with this moss. (im unsure what species it is, maybe someone can help me with that based on the first picture). @Lacey Grantyou were wondering about this. ill say that this may not be worth it to people based on the time it takes, however for me it was 2 things. 1.i have an interest in bilology so it was interesting for me to watch it and 2.i have a rather strict budget, but have plenty of time.
  17. tannins are chemicals released by wood and other botanicals. it is normal, and just may drop the PH a little, but not dangerous.
  18. here is my bag of moss: it is the kind that has been growing submerged. the sad thing is most of this bag is not moss, there is lots of dirt and twigs and stuff. (it was growing on the ground), so i will be washing it off very well before moving it to the PBpretzel jar. Edit: I forgot to take a picture, here is a picture of the moss on a bed of filter floss:
  19. @Cinnebuns i dont see why it would be an issue, apart from breeding. they are both small peaceful gouramis, they should get along fine. however breeding wise they are different genuses so they shouldnt crossbreed. i dont think i understand the question here. the honey gouramis MIGHT outcompete the sparkling gouramis for food being less shy, but thats an easy fix.
