  1. Hello! This is pretty much a journal for me to keep track, but you are welcome to suggest things and comment along the way, cool? Lets get it started! I got an 85g with stand from my neighbor for free, reason was, their nephew had put a fried chicken in it. I cleaned out the canister filter, replaced media, cleaned tank blah... blah.. blah.. Now I have it cycling, with sand, and hornwort, unidentified carpeting species, and El nino fern. I hope to have WAYYYY more many plants than that, but still am in the collection phase. I hope to put guppies, mollies/ livebearers as my water condition does allow. more to be added later 🙂 After all, it is a journal!
  2. Do you guys know what most pet stores call peppered cories I was planing on getting a group of them for my 29 gallon aquarium. I was going to call them tommorow to see if they had any but I know for a fact that they don’t call them peppered cories.
  3. Hello everybody, As you could probably tell, Corydoras are my favorite fish. Post your pictures of your cory cats here along with the species name if possible. Here I have my albino and green cories (C. aeneus), both adult and baby peppered cories (C. paleatus), and pygmy cories (C. pygmaeus.). Thanks!
  4. So, cory(the human) released a new short today from his trip to Peru where he was showing us the substrate of the cories(the fish) habitat. In the comments there were people saying how they had x substrate and switched and then their cories barbells came back. Now an interesting thing was that there were some on both sides, some had gravel and switched to sand, others had sand and switched to gravel, with the previous substrate being the one where the cories didnt have barbells and then grew them back once they switched to new substrate. Then there was someone in the comments who mentioned substrate doesnt matter, its water quality that affects wether cories lose their barbells, which made me wonder if anybody has recorded water parameters when their cories had and didnt have barbells to see what might be causing it, and if maybe this is the true cause and what we should be directing people to do rather than switching out substrate. I currently dont own cories but am planning on getting them and might do some experiments to see, altho I really dont know if I'll be able to see results or not bc I'm not gonna torture the cories who would have "bad water quality"
  5. Hello everyone, I have a male pearl gourami in a semi-planted 29 gallon community aquarium. He is quite peaceful most of the time. He is around 3 inches long so far, and I haven't even seen him eat any guppy fry (yet). He is even a little timid when I come up to the tank. The only problem arises when I feed the fish tank. I provide plenty of floating foods (flakes, crisps, freeze-dried bloodworms, fry food, etc. varies depending on the day) and I also provide sinking foods (pellets, Repashy gel food, algae wafers) for my bottom dwellers. The gourami gobbles up a portion of the floating foods, but then instead of eating more, he goes straight to the bottom of the tank to eat the sinking pellets, where my bristlenose pleco, SAEs, Amano shrimp, and various species of cories feed. Whenever a cory is eating nearby, he will suddenly get aggressive, chasing them and nipping/biting them until they swim off. The strange thing is he will only nip the peppered cories and albino cories, and completely ignores the pleco, SAEs, guppies, pygmy cories, and Amano shrimp. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do about this situation? I want him to stop picking on my cories. Any advice would be well appreciated. Thanks.

  7. Hello Co-op! I've had tanks in the past, but it's been a while, and now I'm looking to re-enter the hobby. I have this plan for a tank celebrate my hometown team, the Baltimore Orioles. I have a picture of the stadium to hang above the tank (I'm looking at a 39 Gallon Bowfront), and then basing the tank with black sand substrate. For fish, I'm looking now at 8 cories (likely Emerald or Panda), 6 or 8 tuxedo swords (focusing on their orange and black blend), and the focal point of 2 koi angels (Likely selects from Angels Plus to ensure orange and black blend.) I'd love to get thoughts and opinions, and promise that once I finally get it up and going I'll document and get some pictures for you all! Can't wait to get going in the community!
