  1. I am putting this tank together for my disabled 16 year old son who is visually impaired (bilateral optic nerve colobomas). I have been looking at glo lights however they have terrible reviews. Would the glo fish and decor glow under regular blue lights (like a reg tank light but on night setting)? I need things to be bright, gaudy, high contrast with lots of movement to help him see what is happening. In the past, he has enjoyed his 10 gallon male guppy tank but the guppies are going to retired to be my 40 breeder community tank so he can have his glotank with in view of his bed. I'm open to suggestions the only thing that is certain is it will be a 29 gallon tank (space is tight and the tank & stand have already been purchased). The fish he has shown interest in so far are the silver mollies, albino corydoras and the green glo tetras. Since he wants the corydoras, I'm thinking of using 20/40 blasting sand. I think the sand will be easier on them then the normal glofish type gravel. Thoughts on a corydora friendly substrate that will work in a glotank?
  2. Hey all, Happy summer. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the tetra glofish, a bala, and compatibility with any shrimp. I would love to have some little squirts around to clean. There are plenty of places to hide for them if I get them but see conflicting information based on what I have looked up. Thanks for any help!
  3. I was in the dog aisle at my grocery store today looking for a bone for our dog, and my son went to go look at the fish. He came back to me, and said "they have a Glo Fish Betta!" Of course I said, "I don't think that's a thing, are you sure you read it correctly?" He went back again to look and confirmed by bringing me over there. Sure enough. Has anyone else seen these before? I haven't.
  4. There is a great amount of debate in the fish-keeping world about the ethics of genetic engineering, and GloFish are usually at the center of this. I recently watched a pretty good video on not only the ethical questions involved, but also the surprising history of how and why they came to be. Here’s a link to the video, definitely worth a watch…
  5. I know this question has been asked 1,000 times so I apologize in advance, I just wanted to hear some opinions from like minded nerms. I have a 60 Gallon Tall (which is a weird tank, but I got a good deal on it) with 1 Angel, 1 White Skirt Tetra, and 1 Glofish Tetra. I have another Angel and Oto-cat in a QT Tank that I plan on adding eventually. My Tetras are pretty territorial and skidish. So I wanted to add more to make them more comfortable. How many more white skirts and glo tetras could I add to make them shoal together while keeping the tank slightly understocked (less frequent water changes)? I'm trying to keep the tank understocked because I have to get my water from the town over. The reason being.. my tap has a pH of 9 and a KH of 10 so its really hard to adjust/ I don't want to chase pH/ my fish are used to the other towns water. I've done a ton of research to find a better way but this is the only way that's affordable at the moment. Thank you for your time! (Sorry for the bad formatting, I'm on mobile)
  6. This weekend we went shopping to select the first fish to introduce to our tank. My daughter picked some glo danios. We were excited and I didn’t take a close look at the fish. After we put the fish in the tank I noticed one fish had a cloudy looking eye. I’m worried I may have brought a sick fish home. Today I noticed some of the danios have red gills. Is this normal? Other then the red gills and the one with a cloudy eye they seem to be behaving normally I saw on Petsmart’s website, their glo danios have super red gills. I’m wondering if I should introduce meds or aquarium salts?
  7. Here's Bucky( after Bucky O'Hare) right now I have him in my 5 gallon that I am preparing for my shrimp. Within a week or so I will be moving him up to a 10 gallon and getting him in getting him 2 more friends he's a glofish Danio and the reason I got him solo is because he was so little in the tank with all the other ones and he was the only one that was missing part of his fin I've had him for for 5 days now in part of his fin is already starting to grow back. I've been fattening him up blood worms and bug bites he is so tiny
  8. Hello, So glofish have been in the hobby for awhile now with bettas being introduced recently. At what time do you think we will start seeing glow shrimp and snails or glow bottom feeders like Cory cats? I am not the biggest fans of glofish but that’s due to the fact that I haven’t really seen one that sparks my interest or looks better than the normal ones. Do y’all think the gloinverts are in the works or it’s something no one is working on?

    Sick Fish?

Hello aquarium hobbyists I been into the hobby for about 1 year and a half and still trying to improve. I currently have an issue going on with one of my Glofish that has like a white round fungus looking bacteria on one of his side but I not 100% sure if its fungus. I moved the fish to a 10-gallon quarantine tank and been treating it for about a month or more so far. I been using API Fungus Cure and API Salt with 1 tablespoon per gallon but see no improvement. The fish is active around the tank swimming and it doesn’t seem like a bother to it. I am looking for help because I lost 2 fish to mouth fungus and 1 for having fungus around his body and tail. Any help will be appreciated I attached a photo, Thank you.

    is this Dropsy?

One of my Danios stomach seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I have also noticed that the spine seems to be getting deformed and she's (I believe it's a female) having difficulty swimming. I reviewed some footage I have of my fish from about 4 or 5 months ago and there were no signs of bloating or a deformed spin back then. Does anyone know if this is a case of dropsy?
  11. So I was picking up another tank today and saw a few glolight bettas. So this is a thing?! Are these new or am I just late to the scene? I'm not a huge fan of glofish myself, but I can imagine there could be some cool breeding projects as far as seeing how the color gets distributed in the fins rather than just the bodies like this guy.
