  1. no worries! the infusoria (mostly copepod) culture has been saved! i poured it out into a 2gallon pretzel container i was using for my contest with @TheSwissAquarist, though i forfeited and had emptied the container out. the little critters now have a larger home, but ill have to remember to add more tank water to it next time i do a WC, and also squeeze out some media into it, for some food, and more little friends. i am running air to this container. personally i split air pumps. on 1whisper 10 air pump i can run, 1.BBS hatcher 2.infusoria culture 3.moss culture. and its on 1 outlet, which is important as in this area, my outlets are limited. the new home of my really little critters: Also if anyone has any fun ideas of platy colors, id love to hear them. Im breeding platies right now for scientific reasons, to looks at their genetics, but to me, it doesnt matter which ones i breed, so if you have any ideas, and i can try to make it work with my fish, i might. So any ideas?
  2. ok, thanks! i just have never seen mine do this before, so i was slightly concerned. now i know for the future.
  3. its been a while. i think ill set up some BBS to hatch. before: after: well, i was setting it up, but realized i had a leak in my infusoria culture, so after dealing with that. a moment of silence for the various little critters losing their homes, as i shut down my culture, to prevent water damage.😞. though i will probably move the culture to a different container that is NOT leaking. but getting the hatching setup: mostly i just want more corydora fry... 😄 i had so much fun raising these ones, i want MORE! also @TheSwissAquaristif you ever dislike your nose, fail a BBS culture, the smell alone will 💀 your nose.
  4. i can answer this question. you should be fine, as they are rather similar species, and are both peaceful. there may be crossbreeding issues, but i dont think that is your concern. i recommend you post this question on general discussion for better answers though.
  5. as i experienced last time, the moss is going through a pearling stage, even with a running air stone. im not so sure why this happens, that would require plant knowledge beyond mine. it appears already most of the moss is turning brown, but a few bright green tips remain, this process may be happening faster then i thought, ill keep this thread updated. i may launch some "real" science experiments on this. i wonder if it would work faster if i took some moss that had a spore stem out, and put that under, so when the spores are released, they will adapt to the water, but im not sure they would then be fertilized...there are SO many tests i could run. you know what, the weather is still nice, ill go find some moss with the spore stems out and add that to the jar, just for testing purposes.
  6. ill answer most of these questions. You may have gotten all females, however, even if the female did not appear pregant, female platies can store sperm for up to 7months, meaning unless you get a rather young one, getting unpregnant platies from a store, is rather difficult. you can protect them with lots of hiding spots, and heavily feeding the other fish. They will eat whatever food they can find (platies are not picky) including small bits of algae, and should be fine without any special feedings.
  7. all fish will eat shrimplets. from oscar to chili rasbora. but many fish leave the adult shrimp alone. i think its smart to move the endlers not the shrimp. shrimp can be sensitive to changes, while endlers are more hardy.
  8. oh yes, that channel is great. though we've discussed all his hardscape in the past. i guess that's how he gets such great growth on his plants. the annoying thing is most of us arent setting up tanks weekly, and it is too late for me to go change the substrate in my tank, adding a nutrient layer, without hurting my fish. im mostly just in it for the fish. especially since im not having the best luck with shrimp.
  9. @Miska that appears to be fine, you may want to check the back for ingredients though. ive heard a horror story from Cory, about using a pond substrate in an aquarium, and about how it killed most of his fish in there.
  10. i dont think he has eaten super recently. this is actually funny, i was just doing HW for my language class, where we are discussing sleep and dreams. thanks for the advice! though i tried to get him out with food, so now the platies and cories are all swarming around the wafer... update: looks like he woke up!
  11. @Chick-In-Of-TheSea should i be concerned? my mystery snail has closed its operculum thingy, and is not coming out. (next to Batmobile is Algaecide). also an adorable picture of garra guy, who is like: "ooo! is human home?"
  12. @knee as usual, it depends on the material. if its food safe it is generally aquarium safe.
  13. i came home today and found my mystery snail with his operculum closed. should i be concerned? @Chick-In-Of-TheSea@Guppysnail
  14. most of the standard 5in oneslike boesemani, and turquoise, just do to their native enviroments
  15. i have no problem with it, considering i consider myself a unoffical scientist... so hence my current projects. 1.growing terrestrial moss submerged and 2. selectively breeding platies, to learn more about their genetics.
  16. just check the nutrient source. it may be a danger if it uses ammonia as a fertilizer source.
  17. it makes sense. i had no real evidence, and was partially wrong. yes the moss is growing towards the light like yours, though i collected some from the shade, and other stuff from direct sunlight. but its the same kind of moss either way.
  18. one of these days ill read through all these essays on this topic...
  19. maybe? ive found that it grows faster in the higher light, but seems to be growing as well in the low light, but in that tank it may just be some java moss. ive put a extra light on my jar, just for better lighting, so ill see how it does. (its a very bright light)
  20. that is AMAZING! congrats on your new stuff! im just confused why you need a aquaclear 110,and 2heaters for a 20T tank...
  21. even that, maybe collecting +rinsing to remove dirt will take an hour. once i have it setup, its really a forget about it, and it happens setup. so it takes time, but i can use that time for whatever i want, its not like it need to do daily WCs on this thing.
  22. i have currently setup a peanut butter pretzel jar by my window full of moss. I have it by the window for good lighting, and i have overdosed easy green in there. I also am running air to allow for better C02 in the jar. I should have a bunch of moss usable in aquariums in a month or two with this method. Part of this is actually knowing how long it takes for it to convert. 1-2weeks in, i saw no change, no growth, no death. the next few weeks, it started dying back. then after that, it started growing submerged (rather quickly i might add),i just want to get exact numbers on these. i think its a good sign that it is growing new parts submerged, as a appose to just not dying. @rockfisher i apreaciate the offer, but im stickcing to my current setup. Im not going to order moss, just to test it, in that case ill just order Java Moss. But this is moss i can collect in my backyard, so it is very easy for me to collect it.
