  1. I got one of the sparkle swords and when it converted over to submerged growth it no longer has the spotting on the leaves. How did yours look after conversion? I'm curious how they are for others.
  2. I have a 93 cube tank which is right around 26" deep I believe, I run one of the Fluval 2.0 on it and a 30" finnex stingray. My plants grow good, I don't have anything needing high light, a couple sword plants, crypts, anubias, bacopa. I also use the coop's root tabs and easy green in the tank.
  3. Instead of a UV light, I would look into more of what the parasites were, getting a positive ID on them and treatment for them. As others above said, it will only kill parasites that are in the water column, and then it depends if the parasites spend enough time exposed to the UV light.
  4. The other thing I can think of is with the air going through felt pads, possibly the air is a little "dirty" and the felt is trapping the dirt, dust etc and clogging. I figured that was why they sent extras when you get them, to change them out when or if they clogged up.
  5. I haven't had any issues so far with my air stones. But, it makes me wonder if its something like when I was younger and worked in a LFS. Every so often we would have to take a straightened out paper clip and clean out the ends of the rigid air line that was in the uplift tubes of the UGF and sponge filters we used. It was like a hard water calcium build up.
  6. My fish room in my basement runs around 41-43% humidity and the temp stays in mid 70s. Mine is in my basement, and I don't heat it, other than the one heat duct from furnace that blows on the opposite side of basement, and the heat that comes out of dehumidifier. I also run a couple fans to keep the air circulated.
  7. I subscribe to pretty much all the fish keeping youtube channels, but the ones that I enjoy watching the most are Aquarium Co-op, Fish Boy, Bentley Pascoe, Steenfott, Chris "The Mad Aquarist", TM Aquatics.
  8. It's always awesome to find baby fry in a tank when you hadn't done anything intentional to try to spawn the fish. Good luck raising the fry!
  9. I have read that as well about temp, I have two lace plants, one is in a tank that I keep about 72, and another in my leopoldi angel tank that is kept about 79-80. I noticed the one in the warmer tank rests more often than the other.
  10. I'd agree with Cory, depending on the bioload, I would leave it for a week or so before i stopped using the HOB. If you have a large bioload I would maybe leave it running a little longer just to make sure there was enough beneficial bacteria on the sponge filter to not cause any issues.
  11. nice looking tank, I like that big piece of driftwood, is that something you found "in the wild" or buy at a store?
  12. I have them in most of my tanks, Ill see them crawling up out of the water quite often, and my biggest tank is a rimless one I will even find dead snails on the floor next to the tank. I've seen them actually crawling out of the tank and they try to go down the outside of the glass but end up losing traction or whatever since it's dry and fall off.
  13. If you haven't already, check out on YouTube "Creative Petkeeping" she recently did an unboxing and review of a microscope that I am thinking of getting myself.
  14. Definitely could be breeding/ courtship behavior. You'll have to look for eggs deposited on the glass or plant leaves in the tank.
  15. Following along, as I have a Madagascar Lace that all the leaves had died back. I pulled the last one off the other day, but left the bulb in the tank. I'm interested to see what other say and have done.
  16. I've gotten wild otos in before and put them in a couple tanks with algae covering the glass, had wood in the tank for them to munch on, They slowly started eating the algae and biofilms on the wood and stuff, I was thinking of trying a trick discus importers use, where if they have a batch of wild discus that wont accept pellets etc they will put a discus that they've had for a while that is eating the prepared foods in to basically teach the new ones that they can eat the foods. I might try it if I ever do get wild ones again since I have some that will eat pretty much anything, algae wafers, sticks, cucumber, zucchini.
  17. I have a pair in my big display tank that I pull the cave that is in the tank out after a couple spawns to give the male a break. It has worked for me so far. Other than pulling the cave, if he would make his own cave with wood and rocks, I would say move one of them to another tank until you want them to spawn again.
  18. 432/ 19.6/ 22 that's what is set up and running right now. I have about another 20 tanks sitting in garage waiting to be set up this fall or winter.
  19. Thanks @Daniel my well tap water has a pH of 7.8 so I think I am going to use a mixture of some RO and tap to help bring that down some and do smaller more frequent water changes, as well as raise the temperature a little as I have their water at 77 or so right now. Thanks again, and hopefully soon I can report some breeding activity.
  20. any of the liquid carbon fertilizers will melt val, including excel and the co-op's easy carbon. They work great at being an algaecide but valisneria doesn't like it. In my experience, i removed the dead leaves, and the val came back over time. As long as the root structure didn't die, you should start to see new growth, as long as you don't keep dosing the excel, as the carbon is being depleted by the plants and water changes.
  21. It sounds like you need a way to vent out the heat. If you don't have any ventilation you will also run into moisture issues as well. If you have a portable AC unit, you can do that, but make sure that it has a dehumidifier in it as well to help with any moisture issues. I don't think you insulated it too well, for most people insulation holds the heat in a house, but in your case, you are keeping the heat from penetrating through from the outside into the house.
  22. @DanielI know you had mentioned in another post, but my memory has lost it, what parameters have you been keeping your leopoldi to breed in? I got hold of some live blackworms and have been feeding them, along with frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp, to hopefully convince mine to spawn for me. Should I start doing more frequent smaller % water changes or let it go for a couple weeks and then hit them with a larger water change with RO water?
  23. Could be full of eggs, or could be bloat. Its hard to say. Keep an eye on the fish over the next few days and see how it is. If its not getting any better or appears worse, you could pull it out and in a hospital tank with some salt.
  24. You don't have to mount it to the wall or anything, but one thing you want to keep in mind, if you move it around, don't let the RO membrane dry out. Once it is wet, it needs to stay wet.
