It is not against the rules to say the names of local chain pet stores. Watch this: Petco, Petco, Petco... See nothing happened. Oh, hold on, what is this:

I built (or my sons did) this stand for two 75 gallon tanks. You can see both 75s on the right of this picture: They have held up just fine.

I had some guppies that liked to jump just because it was fun. I called it 'bubble surfing'.

Better?

At first they were surprising, but now they are just blending in to the background for me.

Who knows? Snails and shrimp seemingly will investigate almost anything but what I see them eat for sure is actual food like plant parts and fish food that falls to the bottom. Unless there is a careful study or experiment one opinion is as good as another. There might more important factors influencing overall health than who ate whose poop. Put me in the pro-snails camp even though I am not sure exactly what they do.

Varnishing the wood is not a good idea. Varnish is not something you want in your aquarium.

Felix Aquarium Monitor/Controller, worst the money?
Daniel replied to Larry's topic in General Discussion
@Larry Felix is a Seneye monitoring system with a camera. The Seneye part is okay, but the camera is disappointing. Buying a Seneye will set you back a little less than $200. I would not make the purchase again. On the other hand, I have had my Neptune Apex system for over a decade. I use it everyday and would purchase one again. -
How to best manage mosquitos in summer tubbing season?
Daniel replied to TheDukeAnumber1's topic in General Discussion
As a beekeeper I can unequivocally state guppies are non-toxic to honey bees.😊 -

All of my cats walk around the tops of my aquariums and try and catch fish, this cat is named Cricket. She caught an angelfish the other day.

If We Are Nerms, What Do Garden Nerds Call Themselves?
Daniel replied to Alesha's topic in Off Topic General
I used to work as a gardener and beekeeper for the Mother Earth News Magazine back in the early '80s, but I am no expert. Aquarium water is better than tap water, but not an order of magnitude better. Plants are pretty happy with rain water which is not far off from RO water. The most important thing with water for plants is that they don't get too much or too little or go too long without water. -

I have 3 tanks with angelfish and endlers in them. No adult endler has ever disappeared or been eaten, but on the other hand, no fry has ever survived.

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis also known as microsword. Medium to strong light, not sure about fertilization as I have only seen it in the wild while collecting plants.

Adding plants to established tank
Daniel replied to Phillip's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
I don't quarantine new plants. But sometimes I get hitchhikers like snails. If snails aren't a concern for you (they aren't for me) I think you are safe to go ahead and put them in your established aquarium.
