  1. Have any of you seen your Cryptocoryne Tropica growing so vertically, reaching up to the light like this. Does this mean that there is not enough light or too much light, or something else? Is this normal growth? I always see other photos or videos with Cryptocoryne plants and they all look more flat. And comments on this would be appreciated.
  2. I have been intrigued by the George Farmer backed Felix Aquarium Monitor/Controller system, and saw some discussion about testing the device by Daniel some time ago, but it didn't seem to have much content and didn't really answer whether the cost as worth it. Can anyone please let me know if anyone is using this system and if it works? Being an Engineer, I am interested in anything that could monitor, alert, and take action to correct a possible issue in my aquarium. Is the Felix system just hype or is it a cool thing to have. Thanks, Larry
  3. I love that there is a plant deficiency chart from AquariumCo-Op, I just can't seem to pinpoint the one my plat has. It looks like several to me, but I don't get that. I dose Easy Green as instructed, weekly and use root tabs, maybe every 6 weeks, but I still get what you see in the photo. Surely someone is more of an expert that I am at looking at the plant comparing what you see to the plant deficiency chart and figure out what the plant needs. HELP! Thinking of Cory and his wife with a sick dog. No fun. Like you child.
  4. Having issues with my Amazon Swords and I'm not sure with it missing, take a look.
  5. I have been fighting to get my Nitrates to an acceptable level in my tank, and just can't seem to make any real improvements. I can't get the Nitrates to be lower than maybe 40 to 60. Today I checked my tap water. It is at around 40 Nitrates. So... I'm fighting a losing battle. Should I invest in an RO system? Will that help?
  6. Thank you.. This is my first time keeping shrimp and so I just want them to thrive and not be harassed by others in the tanks. Here is a photo of the lone shrimp on the Frogbit. He moves if I push on him/her.
  7. My one Amano Shrimp just seems to lay on and around the Amazon Frogbit floating plants I have in my planted 46 gallon with community fish. Is this normal Amano Shrimp behavior or is there something wrong with this shrimp? The other 3 Amano Shrimp i have are seen on occasion in my planted tank, only if I spend many minutes looking for them. Is this all normal or are they not feeling safe with my large Common Pleco hovering around. Or something else?
  8. Does anyone have a fix to have the bubbles that come out of a Zeiss Buble Filter to be smaller or more fine and dispersed? I love the idea of using the Ziess unit, I just don't love the noise that the larger bubbles make when the air exits the top of the unit. Has anyone addressed this, or is it just me being annoyed by the sound?
  9. My question is about quarantining fish. I'm quarantining new fish with the Med Trio, but should I really be medicating my display tank as well? Maybe only medicate the existing display tank fish for parasites since I don't really see any fish that are ill in the display tank. Would this be a good idea, so that the existing fish don't infect the new fish with tapeworms when I introduce the new fish into the display tank after they are cleaned out in a few weeks in my quarantine tank/tub? I can see this being a viscous cycle of infection between new and old fish. Can anyone give me their thoughts on this subject. How do you handle new and existing fish? Oh and Amano and King Kong Red Shrimp were just added to the display tank, I didn't quarantine them hope they do ok. And... the new fish being quarantined with the Med Trio are 16 Neon Tetras and 4 Sterbi Corydoras. Thanks
  10. What is everyone's experience with getting fish and shrimp from Aqua Huna. I live in Pa, and I'm wondering how well the live stock is packed, with cold weather. I ordered 16 Neons, 6 Amano Shrimp, 4 King Kong Red Shrimp, 4 Sterbi Corydoras, 2 Mystery Snails.
  11. Thanks for the advice. So, do you feel that Cherry Shrimp are just too small given the fish I have in the tank? I'm still worried about my large pleco. I've had him/her for a long time, but he's gotten large enough that he is brutal on the plants at night. Is there any way to get him adopted to a someone with a larger tank, so I don't have to always worry about things like adding shrimp or even Corydoras which I have tried several times, only to have all of them die or not found.
  12. I'd love to add shrimp to my 46 gallon tank, but I'm worried that the current fish will either eat them or no leave them alone. Tetras (Neons, Black Skirt, Glow (Sorry to say), Platties, Siamese Algae Eaters, Danios, one 7" long Common Pleco, planted tank with Water Sprite, Cryptocorynes, Amazon Swords, Vallisneria, Hair Grass, etc. Would shrimp survive in my tank with those tank mates?
  13. Is this something that Water Sprite is known for? It seems like the plant is reaching up to the light a top growth become full, blocking more light. What is the solution? Cutting back more of the top portion to get more light to the stems? My main question is the whole thing of water changes to lower Nitrates only to add it back in with Easy Green. Do I have that wrong?
  14. Maybe two weeks. The water sprite really looked good but now starting brown
  15. My question is about accumulating Nitrates vs. fertilizers like Easy Green. So, plants take in Nitrates, right? And we are told that short of be able to achieve a complete "Full Cycle", the only way to keep the Nitrates at bay in our aquariums is to do water changes. BTW, I'm using a Fluval 407 cannister filter packed with about 5-1/2 lbs of Biohome at the top and course, fine, and polishing sponge or physical media at the bottom. My community stocked 46 gallon bow front aquarium is cycled as far as ammonia and nitites are concerned. They are both at zero and holding steady. Ph is always around 7 to 7.2, water temperature is maintained at 77.5 by a 300w Fluval e series Heater, and the Nitrates are always around 40 to 80 ppm every time I test the water. I do gravel vacuum of 1/2 the gravel with about 50% water changes maybe every 2 to 3 weeks. I add 5 pumps of Easy Green weekly and I'm using a Fluval Plant 3.0 scheduled on the preset Planted Tank setting, but I still see water sprite in my tank browning lower down on the stems of the plant, but growing like crazy which I trim as it gets out of control. I use Root Tabs for the Crypts and Amazon Swords. The swords are doing so so, but the crypts are doing great and look very healthy, but are growing slowly. So, can someone unlock the mystery of why nitrates climb, but it looks like I need more fertilizer to possibly fix the water sprite browning I'm seeing or is it lighting that is needed, and too much Nitrates or visa versa. Am I misunderstanding how things are supposed to be working? Help! Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Larry in Pa
