  1. It was actually 4 times before this latest ask as I merged several together.
  2. This thread from @Bill Smith last year is bound to be helpful in your project.
  3. When it comes to a power outage, there really is no substitute for a back-up generator!
  4. Water smartweed is in the family Polygonaceae, and as a beekeeper this is an important nectar producing family that includes buckwheat and knotweed. Many plants in this family have a sharp, peppery flavor that is intense enough to make your eyes run. Hence the name smartweed. Elodea is readily available at Petco, Petsmart, etc.
  5. It looks like good Elassoma habitat. Netting up under the floating mats of plants looks like a choice place.
  6. Here is a brief description of how the blind cave fish lost its eyes: https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2018-06/uom-nri060618.php
  7. When you get to be 61...everyday is like this.🙂
  8. Many people on this forum not limited to @Brandy, @tolstoy21 and @gardenman have all reported issues handling bloodworms. And yes, it can be very serious.
  9. Sweet looking tank! 33 longs are the bomb!
  10. It happens, fish can change color as they age. If it were my fish I wouldn't be worried.
  11. Thank you for schooling us on that!
  12. My motto for the forum is: "I learn something new everyday!"
  13. It is like when my family would ride to downtown Atlanta back in the late 60s. My dad would see a hippie with long hair and growl 'looks like a girl to me'. I would always think to myself 'no dad, that looks like a boy to me'. So I am guess I am saying it is a gestalt thing. Having bred a few paradise fish over the years the feeling I get is 'male'. If I were at a fish store trying to pick out a pair, I would get the biggest most colorful one as my male, and the one that least looked like him as my female. Or if I really wanted to hedge my bets I would buy 1/2 dozen of them.
  14. Depending on what time of day you measure the pH, it could be as low as 7 or as high as 8. The is no buffer. Here is a graph of the daily fluctuations of pH that photosynthesis causes:
  15. What are mommy and daddy doing! Don't worry Bobby, mommy and daddy are just 'fighting'.
  16. Yes, discus will eat off the bottom and floating and in the water column. As @Fish Folk and @Philip both mention above, discus love worms of all sorts. Here is a video of some of my discus eat blackworms off the bottom:
  17. The adult Daphnia will be bigger than the guppy fry, but the baby Daphnia will become guppy fry food. Depending on your point of view, this is either a good thing or a bad thing.
  18. Corydoras sterbai are probably your best bet for a heat tolerant Corydoras. When I kept a tank with rummynose, rams, and cardinals (and Discus) the Corydoras sterbai were were my go to cory cat and they did great.
