  1. Hello! I stopped at the LFS to get more java moss today, and the person in front of me was buying live adult brine shrimp (in fish bags). I've never seen them before and was kind of shocked at how big they are! I'd love to buy this special treat occasionally for my fish, but how small of a fish can eat them, and can extras survive in the fridge for a day or two after? I only got a quick glimpse and to ask what they were - the store was too busy for small talk, but I could go back for some on a less busy day. Thanks!
  2. I have a 45 gallon that's too tall for me on its stand. It's 24" high and the stand is 28" high. I can barely reach the bottom standing on my tippy toes as long as I use a chair so I can balance with the other arm. I'd rather have a 55 gallon or a 40 breeder.
  3. @Anita what a great workaround! I also have a little trouble with the color variations.
  4. I haven't seen any microfauna in my tank recently except hydra. I do see evidence of its existence though, every time a rasbora lunges and grabs something.
  5. One week update: everyone is doing great and settled in. They all know to come and beg every time I approach their tank! Clementine is "tank boss" right now though he/she doesn't know it yet! I'm glad they're really tolerant of the rasboras, who are starting to realize they can get in there at feeding time and not be completely terrified. Tang still tries to school with them, but can't keep up because they swim away. It's adorable. They love the sword plants and spend hours every day picking through them. And it looks like the two female guppies are getting, shall we say, "boxy"? They reject the male consistently, too. I need to get more moss or guppy grass for them. I feel like I'm going to have some baby guppies soon...
  6. I had 11 dwarf danios in a 10 gallon with just shrimp. When I moved them to their 20 gallon, 2 danios (and a few shrimp) had completely disappeared with no evidence.
  7. Aqueon makes a 29 gallon usually available at big box or LFS. It fits on a 20-gallon long stand but is taller.
  8. He just had to do circles around the new bacopa plant I got at my LFS.
  9. @Goosedubthat looks like what my LFS labeled "candy koi". Is he new? He might change color if he's anything like my galaxy koi (red, white and blue- now turning mostly blue, still the most gorgeous fish in the world).
  10. My galaxy koi plakat (red, white and blue) has turned steadily more blue in the past 5 weeks.
  11. If you have a HOB you can corral off the filter flow area so it won't whip the duckweed around and kill it, if that is what is happening. My HOB killed off the red root floaters but not the salvinia minima, though it does do a number on individual leaves. I corralled it off, but not in time to save the red root.
  12. I use silicone straws (found at grocery store), held together with airline tubing.
  13. Today I attached moss (labels say both Java and Christmas) to the driftwood, and potted some of the Bacopa plants for temporary placement in the quarantine tank for the guppies. I got moss water on my couch quilt so now I have to do "emergency laundry". The driftwood pic came out upside down.
  14. Went to my LFS to get some java moss for the quarantine tank (guppies). I couldn't resist these Bacopia plants and a small piece of driftwood, currently soaking in hot water. Also WC on two tanks. I'm falling in love with the wiggly, friendly guppies.
  15. Through the feeding corral, a little peek at Clementine and the huge sword. Salvinia minima Cosmo, thinking it might be dinnertime.
  16. They finally figured out where the food comes from! The past 2 days they had been just picking it off the plants and substrate since they hang out down there alot. My grand-niece named them Clementine (right) and Tang (left).
  17. Nice little meeting this morning with the rasboras.
  18. @Danieldo you use the garlic scapes? A raw milk and cheese farmer I know in upstate NY buys them from another farmer to make flavored cheeses that always sell out at the garlic fest.
  19. I've had this one - I think it's a crypt, hard to tell now- for a few months and it's just now starting to come back. I wonder if extended shipping times might be a contributing factor.
