  1. Ha. I’m sure as he grew they took shape. I agree they extend past the tail “joint” What a nice lookin’ fish. I know he’s not as colorful as some folks’. Seems each Bolivian ram looks a bit unique. Dean said in his breeding video of GBR, see this male has the longer fins and that’s the trait I’d like to breed… so I guess it’s less obvious on some rams, and I’m sure that’s the case with Bolivian rams too since their body shape looks like GBR. Also if I were to breed him and get him a mate, or even another guy, I bet he’d show more color due to mating dances and/Or territorial displays.
  2. Every time I overfeed the fish I just think, eh, the snails will get the rest. And then I overfeed the snails later and they get lazy and nap for awhile.
  3. I have got to give a shout out to @Colu who has helped me identify and treat fish diseases. I leaned on @Colu quite a bit last year and they were always there for me. Together we saved 3 out of 3 black neons from columnaris! @Guppysnail for helping me hatch mystery snails for the first time, learn about shrimp, and countless other gems of knowledge, plus sending me adorable magenta snails and plants and bulbs. @Guppysnail and @dasaltemelosguy for Reverse Respiration and information about Prime dechlorinator. @nabokovfan87 for help with filters (with diagrams and manuals!), shrimp tank water change brainstorming, backgrounds, WORMS, and lots of other things. I thought my HOB was completely “dead in the water” 🤣 and with his help I got it going again AND got it optimized. @TeeJay for help with shrimp advice and for Coffee with TeeJay and making me laugh with his silliness. @Odd Duck , @xXInkedPhoenixX , and @Goldie Blue for sharing knowledge about betta care and preventative and reactive treatments and recovery. And @Odd Duck even helped me with some cat food advice too. @modified lung for sharing knowledge on water chemistry, esp. how salt affects beneficial bacteria. @Pepere for helping me set up my ink bird. @Fish Folk for answering my random questions and @TheSwissAquarist for random advice and pup photos. And for a noble attempt at a Snow Murphy. @Seattle_Aquarist and @Katherinefor help with plant nutrient deficiencies. And @Katherine was an active participant of the baby snail fan club when I was hatching them. 🙂 It’s very hard to list everyone but you guys know who you are!
  4. This is great! You’re making a lot of progress. I’m sorry. Ugh! How frustrating. At least there is a plan. This is very good to know. Sorry about the plants though. Plants are expensive too. On the plus side you will get to rescape which I always find to be fun. You could change it up and make the tanks all have a different feel, if you wanted to. I get this. I do it too now. I used to have so much fun shopping for fish, but with my knowledge now, it’s been depressing. I look at the filters in the tanks. A lot of them have dead fish stuck to them. It makes me angry the fish are left there and employees are off doing other things. Of course, happens mostly in big box and less in LFS. And some LFS are better than others. So I don’t buy fish at big box. I did buy a snail because he was getting majorly bullied and he was attacked every time he tried to come out of his shell, poor fella. He lived out a very good, pampered life in my peaceful tank with other snail friends. Just keep on truckin @Mahi27. You can do this. Any new fish you purchase, you can put in a quarantine tote and watch/treat them. That’s what I do now. But you’ll want to keep quarantine available for now in case any of your current patients need it. With that many tanks, how are you sanitizing siphons, nets, etc? I’ve been wondering what works. Rachael O’Leary puts a net, handle up in a bucket if it’s been used. Once she sanitizes it, it goes into a different bucket, with the handle down.
  5. +background +slate to hide equipment -extra filter rearranged before: after:
  6. Did a little redesign to the shrimp tank. Added black background. Removed extra filter. Added pretty slate to hide equipment. Before: After: Nibbles’ shell used to be black with whitish-gray dots, now it’s more of a light gray/white color. He’s still the same peppercorn size. All of this kicked up a lot of mulm so I ended up siphoning out 1g mulm/water into a white bucket, and dripping the replacement water in. Carefully checked the water removed but could not detect life with a magnifying glass and flashlight, other than the ostracods.
  7. That is wonderful @JJenna. Thank you for sharing your results. That snail injury was very bad. I’m sure you have extended his life by helping him like this.
  8. @Guppysnail has a nerite that was bit? The bite occurred before she got him. He was tossed into her bag when she bought other snails. His shell was cracked just about in half. She kept clean good quality water for him. That’s all she did, and he’s doing well.
  9. I thought it was a girl at first (see beginning of journal) but then I thought not because of the pointy fins and the prominent spike. I don’t know! Lol How do you get such vibrant colors? What diet do you feed?
