  1. I’m sure that could be done at least at there size. Maybe 6-7 inch adults would need a 40 breeder or 55.
  2. @tolstoy21 Well I had lost an angelfish that had spawned two days prior. Seemed perfectly healthy with no issues. Water tested fine, I just had the pair in a 29 gal. I found her dead with in 4 hours of the last time I saw her alive. And I did a little inspection and her gills were all puffy and white. I think it was some sort of gill fungus. But you wouldn’t think she would have spawned if she was distressed and this (fungus) was not noticeable without flipping the gill plate over and looking. The only real thing that was out of the ordinary was she had a very small spawn compared to a normal one. Also in my research into this I came across gill mites/flukes but I didn’t see anything like that. I have an older aquarium book on fish diseases. But maybe we can get some recommendations on something more up to date. The book I have has all kinds of meds that I don’t think are commonly available.
  3. I’d say if you’re losing the fry after they hatched but still have a yoke sack in the wiggler stage And your feeding bbs. I’d highly recommend keeping a close eye on the water parameters. I had the same issue for months. And i was sure it wasn’t the water because I did weekly water changes every week and I was hatching Bristlenose fry in the same tank. It wasn’t till I lost a spawn of the rams the same way in the same tank. That I started really breaking down what was going on. I thought I had some sort of bacteria in the water. but nope I just had high no3.
  4. I’ve always used meth blue, but I’ve started to use H2O2. Downside to it is you have to redose it every 10-12 hours. But don’t ask me the dose I’m still working on figuring it out. But I’m trying 5 ml per 10 gals currently. But it will kill a biological filter so it can only be used in egg hatching tank.
  5. Personally I can’t ID them. But I’d have a few guesses. Some worms imo are harmless. Some cause major issues. But it looks like they have large heads on the photo so it might be hydra, you’d have to google and compare. I’d also recommend this article to maybe help with the ID White Worms in Your Aquarium Tank and What to Do About Them WWW.THESPRUCEPETS.COM The presence of tiny white worms can be very distressing to any aquarium owner. Although not harmful to fish...
  6. I squeeze a sponge in the new tank to jump start the filter, add some rams horn or bladder snails. Give it a few days then test, feed the snails, water change,And keep the stocking light for a few weeks. Testing occasionally. Typically snails are sensitive to bad water , so they can be a first warning sign. you’ll see them at the top trying to escape or dead.
  7. Update- I’ve moved the fry from the jar and combined them with some angelfish fry of the same size. I have them all growing up in a 29 gal that I have a divider in. The parents were moved to a 5 gal and have spawned again but looks like she ate the eggs on the second day, I think it might have something to do with the wide opening on the cave, tbh I got them at a swap and I know they’re some sort of seed pod but that’s about it. See attached photos.
  8. @Nataku sounds like my ohio water and I have some plants that will fit the bill. But I think probably I’m at least a few months out from them being mature enough based on what you’ve said. But I’ll get some pics here soon
  9. @Nataku awesome, thanks for the info. I’m sure It will actually help me a lot. Mine aren’t full grown yet so I’m curious to when I might start to see that behavior if I ever do. From what I’ve been able to to find rainwater/ro is basically required for spawning.
  10. I’ve never even heard of it. Is it in something or do you get it raw?
  11. I do put fish in instant cycled tanks with a seeded sponge filter or a I shake a sponge filter off in a new tank to start a cycle. But I also do not overload a new tank. I started to QT fish after I got worms in a tank and moved some rainbows around and had camallanus red worm in 4 tanks before I caught it. The headache alone not to mention all the Money I spent on meds. Now I won’t even use a wet net in multiple tanks I hang them up and spray them H2O2, and get a new dry net. and I don’t rinse my brine shrimp. But when I feed I’ll avoid the egg shells on fry I think may have an issue (rainbows, rams, apisto and angelfish early on) So I’ll eye drop those tanks.
  12. A male gardneri killifish. But that’s going to cause problems for the shrimp. I think you’re going to have problems attempting a larger show piece fish with shrimp. Picture of one of my males gardneri innidere
  13. Just as a general statement I think separate breeding tanks are better in almost every situation. And I second not drop acclimating as I never do this. And I’d pull the eggs before I pull the fry. They may eat the eggs early on.
  14. Hello, I’ve been trading in fish to my local store building credit for a few different breeding projects. And the last time I called my LFS they told me that had got in a group of the lamp eye Congo tetras (Phenacogrammus aurantiacus) in. A species that they knew I had been looking for over a year. So I Burned rubber over to the store and paced back and forth In front of the tank. debating on pulling the trigger on a group. The store employee and I talked it over and I left with what we Both thought were 2 pairs. They’re currently are in a 20 gal with some meds. I may go back and get 2-3 more but at 40 bucks each this is still up in the air. But to get to the point. I am going to attempt to breed this fish. I have Found Very little information on this subject. The only decent info I’ve found is an AMAZONAS magazine that features African tetras in a few articles. Outside of that I’ve done a lot of research on other Congo tetras sp. but I’m looking for anyone who has experience with this species And or advanced breeding tactics for African tetras. I haven’t taken any pictures of mine yet but you can find some awesome photos online of this fish.
  15. @Bill Smith I use to make the diy water bottle traps to Catch multies.
  16. Greg sage has a great series on YouTube about breeding Odessa barbs. @Cory Also has a fish room video tour of Greg’s operation that’s an awesome watch. With that being said that’s probably where I would start. I know it’s not the same fish. But I promise you’ll pick up tips and tricks that you’ll use in your Project with the 5 banded barb. Greg has a ton of great content related to breeding fish.
  17. I think this would work well. I would probably put the apistos cave on one side and the angelfishes slate on the other. That way when either pair do spawn They aren’t as aggressive with each other.
  18. As far as setting up multies go I housed a ton in a 15 gallon till I had a 40 breeder for them. The males will fight when staking out a turf/ boundary conflicts . To make this easier I would put 5/7 shells in groups around the tank to establish turf and the males will take these areas. Also using potted plants/rocks or that new aquarium coop planter would work well To break up lines of sight And look much better. limited experience with rams and apisto’s but them seem to do best in pairs. but If you had a large footprint tank like a 20L I bet you could get a colony situation going as long as have enough Distinguished turfs. By that I mean having multiple cave/plant combo areas for the pairs to hold and not see the other fish all the time.
  19. They look like corydoras eggs to me. What type of corydoras are they?
  20. Everything @Daniel said I will second and I’m glad he did all the typing so I didn’t have to lol. The only thing I will add is I just recently started using the the jars from angels plus and they are something I couldn't go without now. They are great for angelfish obviously. but currently I’m using them for Apistogramma fry as well. They have a ton of advantages and I’ve yet to find a con to them. I actually plan on setting up a 20 long with as many jars as I can fit in it and just heat the one tank .
  21. I have some of those I got on sale. The temp is almost always off what the display Shows and always shows low flow and I have some tanks that are bubbling! I’m Still looking for that magic heater.
  22. Andy, I would rather buy locally, but for some of the rare stuff I use aquabid and eBay. that seller in particular Jim K/ sellfishguy I’ve got a lot of killifish/eggs off And I highly recommend the guy. I had a bad hatch of some Eggs once and he sent me a replacement group of eggs for free. He’s a nice guy. Killifish are super underrated I’m the hobby. Just make sure you have a lid with no way for them to jump out!
  23. I feed frozen blood worms and brine shrimp. They should be spawning at that size or very soon. Are you using mops? What is the spawning tank setup like? And mine are collection point loe. I got them off aquabid.
