    I believe a true zebra is three or more stripes on the body. If they just have the classic two on body then It’s just a Pb angelfish. But as cory said they often sell any blue striped angelfish as a zebra blue or a cobalt blue. I find a lot of blues often throw albino, but they are much harder to raise. I don’t often see other types in my pairs. So I went out and just purchased a group of blue Smokey’s. I may end up crossing them with a blue zebra or a black marble. Just to see what happens.

    Yeah that’s sounds like you might have eggs shortly. Be carful when checking for eggs she may get spooked and eat them or move them. Avoid checking with a flashlight!

    I’ve attempted to keep cherry shrimp colony’s deep red. And I had little success with doing so. I got rili shrimp every once in awhile and would pull them and put them in their own tank to try start a rili colony but it always seemed to collapse. Maybe after many years you could attempt to keep a colony red. but just starting out I’d just try to get the numbers up and pull a starter colony from their offspring. You’ll have far more to choose from.

    I’d get this book it’s the single best thing I can think of for plecos, and helpful when trying to ID L number plecos. also the fish room tours of Eric Bodrock on YouTube are full of good pleco/corydoras breeding/keeping advice. But in a nut shell PH doesn't seem to matter as much as clean,high flow and typically warm water. And some of these fish seem to breed seasonally in the spring and fall. But you can try fake them out with adjusting light cycles but IMO the barometric pressure seems to be key when they want to spawn.

    Hello, I have been breeding angelfish for awhile now. But I have kind of an advanced question. I have two pairs in a 29 gal tank with a foam divider In the middle. And the pair on the left side with the sponge filter have a awful fertilization rate probably under 10% make it to wrigglers. I pull the eggs and put them in a two gal jar with meth blue. The side on the right with the blue pair has had a very high rate of success with fertilization, and that side has no sponge filter. So the question is could the water movement off the sponge filter be effecting the fertilization rate of the koi pair on the left side

    Honestly think it’s a female but I don’t think she’s old enough, she should be a deep orangeish yellow. More so when she is close to spawning.

    In my experience Cory’s species are typically harder to spawn then most others. And I’ve had limited experience with the species I’ve bred breeding on a regular schedule. And a lot of them require soft/ low ph to trigger spawning. I’ve got a group of orange laser cw10 that I know I have both sexes. I’ve had for over two years in a species only tank. And I’ve never had spawning activity. But I don’t use Ro water, I’m just to busy with other stuff. But a lot of people will also say water level, seasonal lighting and other factors can effect spawning behavior.

    If you want a pair try and play musical fish and move them around. I find in large communities tanks sometimes they won’t pair off. I’ve got a bunch in a 75 and I know I have both sex’s because I’ve got proven pairs and broken up pairs in this tank. This tank is where all my extra breeders go. And I have no pairs formed or eggs being laid.

    I use all of the above. But if I had to pick just one it would be flake for the versatility of feeding .

    Personally I wouldn’t attempt to start with discus, angelfish are a better choice. With that being said people will say they are easy. But that’s typically coming from people experienced in breeding other fish. You’ll find that almost everyone recommends you get a group of 6-8 juv fish and grow them up and form pairs. I have found a ton of videos on YouTube about breeding angelfish and discus. I’d recommend you start there. And do some research and most of your questions will be answered.

    Hello ive looked all over the internet and in my fish health book for help with this issue and ive medicated the tank with a lot of different meds. the water is good I've tested it multiple times over the last 2 months. I've got angelfish, corydoras , plecos and a leaf fish in the tank. i started with a school of about 13 dwarf neons and had no issues. then added some black marble angelfish that did go into a qt tank for about 6 six weeks and showed no issues. so i added them to the 72 bowfront. and slowly I'm losing 1 rainbow fish at a time. I've medicated with the aquarium co op trio as well as many other meds with no results. but its odd that whatever it is just killing one rainbow at a time. so it makes me wonder if its not the leaf fish attacking them. he is about 5 inchs and the rainbows are adults at about 2-3 inches. tho I've never seen him attack them but I'm wondering if it happens at night. no other fish in the tank are effected besides the rainbows and like i said it happens one at a time. i did have a person on a rainbow fish forum say they've seen what im calling the (BLACK CHIN) before but found no cause or cure for it . any advise would be apricated

    No your overhead light shouldn’t be a problem. just don’t go shoving a flashlight in there eyeballs. As for where to put the fry I really can’t be much help in that department.

    Sounds like they may spawn but you’ll just have to just keep checking. But a word of caution, don’t go floodlighting the eggs, you’ll spook the female and she’ll either eat the eggs or move them. But checking the eggs to often will stress her out. Typically after they spawn she won’t let the male near the spot. And I’d remove the fry before I moved the male personally.

    Yeah, i wouldn’t worry about it. Mix it up and feed some flake and see what happens. I know brine shrimp passes very fast typically.
