  1. I recently acquired some CPDs or Celestial Pearl Danios, and I thought I’d start a thread for breeding them. I have 4 males and 2 females (before today I thought it was the opposite ratio) that I got 3 days ago, today was my first day able to watch them the whole day and in the light, and my first day offering live baby brine shrimp. For several hours today I’ve noticed the dominant male chasing around one of the females, and occasionally another male will also try and chase for a few moments and then go off and do something else. I have some videos of this but I’m not sure how to add it (I’ll play around, advice would be helpful) and I’m wondering if this is breeding behavior or if it’s aggression. What are your experiences with the keeping and breeding of this beautiful species? (I posted a few videos on tiktok, I can’t get the video into the right format to post directly from my phone, would it be ok to post a link to the tiktok?)
  2. Hope everyone is well. I was wondering what kind of yarn is best for spawning mops.I tried dye free acrylic yarn but it would bleed and turn my water green even after boiling the heck out of it. And another question unrelated to spawning mops, I’ve been trying to raise up up some double red cockatoides I’ve gotten a few spawns but they always get eaten. I’ve even tried moving the male once but mom just ended up going to town. So I added three more females with hopes that the next spawn momma would be more guarding. Is that the right move or should I remove the other females and just keep the pair? thanks in advance and sorry for the long post
  3. I've got 7rice fish and one of them is making 3ish eggs a day. when this started looked up what to do and threw in a mop because there wasn't any plants (this is a temporary tank until it warms up outside). After 10 days i inspected the mop and found 0 eggs but threw it in a tub with an airstone just incase. I also made a second mop and put that in with the fish. It's been 12 more days and no hatches, and I don't see any eggs in the new mop either. I'm assuming she's dropping them on the substrate but they'd be impossible to spot there because of the mixed color gravel. Are there other mop designs or some other way i could go about this?
  4. Hi Everyone I was hoping for some advice on successfully breeding German blue rams. I’ve watched Deans video, read the Coop blog article and have watched a ton of Coop videos. My question is more specific so here it goes... The picture in my thumbnail is from a ram pair that bred in my 40 gallon community tank. Other inhabitants are two mystery snails 10 black neon tetra 11 rummy nose tetra and eight amano shrimp (along with the ram pair). I keep the temp between 82-84 degrees depending on my room temp. Water parameters (going off tetra strips) are stable. Ph 7.2-7.4 no ammonia nitrites or chlorine. Kh low between 20-30 ppm, GH high between 200-250 ppm nitrates steady around 20 ppm. The rams bred on the side of a large rock which was too big to remove. About three days after the eggs were laid the rams are the eggs (I saw them eating them). I understand that’s common for new pairs or if they’re stressed. I would like to raise some rams so I bought a 10 gallon tank with sponge filter, some pots n saucers like in deans video and added some anubias and water sprite. Water parameters are similar to community tank although slightly higher KH (40 ppm) and slightly lower GH (150ish) PH 7.4ish temp consistent at 84. About 8 ember tetras are only fish in there. My plan was to use the tank to raise the fry. With all that said, my question is do you guys think it would be better to move the ram pair to the tank and give them time to lay eggs and raise the fry, wait until the eggs are laid or fry hatch and remove them and put them in a breeder box with some air or just leave the rams in the community tank and hope for the best? If I move the ram pair, should I drip acclimate them or just put them right in the tank? If I move the fry, it seems like consensus best way is to siphon them with airline tubing. Is that the best way? sorry for the long post but from reading other posts and watching corys videos it seems like it’s best to provide tank condition info for a more informed answer. Thanks for any advice!
  5. I am wondering if I would like to start breeding discus and am wondering if anyone has experience and could give me and idea of what it’s like
  6. Hello! I am temporarily moving across the country for work and am breaking down my 75 gallon tanks for the time being. I will be bringing a 15 gallon cube with me to keep me sane. On the livestreams and videos Cory has talked about the importance of a seasoned tank for a healthy ecosystem. If I was diligent in monitoring tank parameters do you guys think I could successfully breed Multies shell dwellers soon after cycling the tank? If not, please suggest a species you think would fit this size tank and could raise the fry with the parents in same tank. Thanks everyone for your time and responses! PFA my Purple Mosiac female guppy 🙂
  7. I started with 2 males and 2 females (2018) and allowed the dominant pair to establish themselves before removing the subdominant pair. Anyone ever bred these guys i lways wanted to try them and hope tonhave success in the next 12 months or so? Set up is a 50 gallon acrylic with drift wood, leaf litter and some tannins. Aquaculture 110 and an in tank circulation pump
  8. I have a 20 tall tank with Red Cherries. I am considering trying to breed corys. Which variety would you say is the most popular? Which is the coolest? Which is the rarest?!

  10. Full disclosure: I am no expert at fish keeping and always pushing myself to learn from my tanks and others to improve myself and my abilities with aquariums. I have had some success in 35 years in the hobby first with my dad then as solo over the past 5 years or so but like us all have learned when things went wrong and when things went perfect. Recently I have been wondered if parameters of native habitats were actually a deal breaker for most fish to reproduce or if stable conditions generally within the ballpark of their natural habitat along with some fluctuation to trigger spawning are more important. Nature finding a way seems to occur for me more often than not. Do you find that there any parameters which when different from the natural environment of a species is a deal breaker to getting a species to spawn successfully? More importantly are those conditions more detrimental to being able to raise fry to adulthood? I have had plenty of learning experiences over the years when things did not work out but have also managed to set the stage right for a few species to reproduce with my setups over the years: Goodeids: Characodon lateralis, and Zoogoneticus tequila; Other livebearers: platies, swordtails, and guppies; Mouthbrooders : Strawberry betta, betta macrostoma ( was awesome to learn from but fry did not survive due to an equipment issue), and golden mbuna (my first non livebearer way back when); Miscellaneous unintentional success : panda corydoras, flag fish (guarded eggs like sunfish), and Khuli loach Current projects: Gold Stripe Panaque (3yr old colony); Hairy Puffer (1.5 year old group); Dwarf Pike Regani (1.5 year old pair from group); Dwarf Chain Loach (1 year old group)
  11. Am new to breeding Mystery Snails. Does anyone have a preference on leaving the egg "clutch" inside the aquarium, or is it better to remove it & build an incubator? The humidity level should be fine where the eggs are, but was wondering what the best method might be, from your personal experiences.
  12. So when posting pics of my oscars and there fry everyone kept saying I need to remove them before they get eaten. Which I some what agree however this is there first successful attempt they have laid eggs twice before first time I pulled second time was letting them hatch but had a filter shut off in middle of night and water got stagnant parents almost didn’t make it. Got a couple sponge filters and extra air hoses for just in case this should happen again. So with that said I feel that they are even more protective they even leaped at me out of tank never done this before so kinda made me smile and left them in there for now. At what point do you think I need to go ahead and transfer them anyone ever have successfully raised fry with parents? Love to get some input thanks in advance
  13. do you think it would work? or would the pleco caves work? I don't like how the apisto caves look.
  14. I am looking to breeding german blue rams. I was wondering if I could just buy a male and female and they would have babies, or would I should I buy them as a pair?
  15. All of my Oto’s are on the round side, but i noticed today that one of them has suddenly ballooned. Im hoping that shes a female packed full of eggs because i would love for them to breed! Have any of you bred Oto’s succesfully? And if so do you have any tips? Its my understanding that they dont breed in captivity very often. Ive tried searching for info about breeding them but it seems like theres really not much out there. Does anyone have any info on why no one seems to be breeding them?
