  1. I found this photo off Instagram and I’m curious if anyone has seen this color in person or what trade name it goes by.
  2. It looks like it could be a male but it looks kinda washed out. I’d let it settle and take another photo when it’s color returns.
  3. @Jeremy_fishguy yes that is a L494 I’m lucky to have a source for them locally at swaps/auctions. More info if your interested https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=5791
  4. Yeah, fingers crossed I’ll get some eggs. It would really do me some good. They’re one of the more difficult species to spawn according to the guy I got them from.
  5. I’ve also got a much younger pair then yours mine don’t have hardly any color yet. But from what I e seen about these fish is spawning behavior is trigged by low ph. In some reports at or around 5.
  6. Hello, I don’t know much about parrots but I’ve bred many fish and I’ll give you what I feel like is decent advice. Setting up the new tank in the manor your talking about should be fine. just keep a close eye on the water parameters. And change water accordingly. Second is the food it is very hard to be live food cultures the easiest being baby brine shrimp. Now assuming you don’t have access to that currently. You can use the frozen baby brine shrimp if you can find it. Crushed flake food to a fine powder will work, first bites, golden pearls in various sizes will all work. but typically you’ll have a better survival rate on fry from bbs. Here’s an example of what your looking for. Also you don’t want to have to much flow in the fry tank as that can cause problems. Best of luck and if you ha e any questions let me know.
  7. Hello, just looking for a little insight on a rather unusual question. Everyday during my afternoon feeding I check my l333 , supers reds and l494 caves for eggs. Well today while doing the checks. I shined my light in on a 494 cave and wouldn't you know it I just interrupted a trapping. Needless to say I think I spoiled the whole event because I checked back later and the female was out of the cave and male was still in it without any eggs. Now to my questions A. Will they attempt again in the next 24/48 hours or is it completely random? B. I was under the impression they always spawned at night, granted I keep that tank fairly dim. But other tank lights and such make the fish visible. I’m curious because I’ve never caught any of my plecos in the act and now I’m going to be far more carful with lighting them up.
  8. I like 29, and 40 breeders best they fit so many needs. And depending on species of rainbows a 20 would be fine for a trio. A 20long would be better . But if you already have a bunch of 20h . I’d just use them.
  9. When you were losing the guppies did you ever take the water in for testing? But I’d assume you didn’t see any visual signs on the fish , did they look then thin or act strange?
  10. Yeah I agree with you Andy about it. And honestly they don’t get much different colors in a tank. They are very skidish.
  11. Hello I Was wondering if anyone is well versed enough to help me with these fish. They were sold to me as apistogramma agassizii tefe the seller seemed to think they might be tefe blue. It was sold as a w/c pair. https://youtube.com/shorts/c-kbRFohGuc
  12. Top photo, my LFS has them for 50.00 each but the ones they have are far more green then yellow they are amazing looking.
  13. Hyphessobrycon sp. “Yellow Lapis” or the yellow lapis tetra. Interested to see if anyone has any experience with these tetras. My LFS has a small amount of them.
  14. Hmm that’s interesting. I’ve never heard of that before
  15. I know your pain. I’ve had pairs do similar things. I had a pair spawn almost 100% for awhile then do exactly what your talking about . And now it’s just kind of hit or miss with that pair. I will say hi flow in my experience has a negative effect on the rate. Also a lot of people say the angle of the slate matters a lot.
  16. I think they can crossbreed based on the start of the scientific name. But that’s just from a vague memory
  17. @Fish Folk is on the money about how to do it. But storing the eggs In Peat/coco fiber is the traditional way of doing it. And you’ll get a large spawn of fry around the same age. The colony method will result in all different size fish and the fry will pray on each other. You could set a pair up in 5/10 gallon allow them to spawn for a few weeks and move the pair and let the fry hatch out with the the parents present but you’ll run into the same issue of fry eating each other. Typically I do both methods. But Pulling eggs can be a little more work but is more rewarding. Lots of YouTube videos about it.
  18. @jswinehart yes it is very similar, maybe I’m onto something
  19. I’ve heard is using shrimp to do this. I may have to get a few and give it a try. I do miss having cherrys 🤔
  20. Yeah, idk why I get bad fertilization rates some times. It’s just a pair of angels and some rainbows in a 29. This is those same eggs from the video 24 hours later (today)
  21. @Fish Folk I’ll have to check those videos out, but from what I saw in your first video you didn’t have hardly any eggs with fungus compared to what my spawn was. I probably had half of the eggs be bad. And I think that’s what caused my issues. Do you change water on that specimen container?
  22. @Fish Folk this will be the first time I’ve used the set up in the video. But I’ve spawned many angels in the past. In the video for a second you can see my copy of deans tray breeding system. But I’ve spawned a few different types of rainbows, corydoras, plecos, apisto’s,rams, shell dwellers, peacocks, guppies and goodieds . I’m currently attempting to spawn lamp eye Congo’s, zebra acaras, l333 and l494 with no success yet. Most of these seem to be challenging or require RO or seasonal spawning. one that is giving me trouble that I never expected is the Lamprologus Meleagris/Pearly Ocellatus. Yet again haven’t got them to spawn yet.
  23. I’ve be interested in your test results . But if I had to guess I’d say it has something to do with the water quality. But hard to know.
  24. Here’s a link to my new little hatching system. Any input is appreciated
