  1. I dose daily, well almost. I don’t dose the day before a water change or the day of a water change. Good Luck
  2. Why? I would ask why? What was different with this plant? Why did this one die, and not the other one?
  3. I have used just about everything over the years. I have settled on paint. It is cheap, I can remove and change. Paint. Good Luck and let us know how it comes out.
  4. Tank size? Tank depth? How many and types of plants? How old is the setup- is this tank seasoned or not? Fertilizers or not?
  5. So that is what a 125-150 gallon? So maybe 2,000 plus pounds? Would also depend if near outside or load baring wall? I would talk with the landlord and or owner of the building. This tank does not compare to a water bed. A bed displacement would be much better. Total weight spread out over a much larger area. But if this is an apartment building it should be able to handle load- even older building codes wanted a solid fire block between tenants in apartment buildings. I would check. Better to be safe. Good Luck
  6. Very Nice.. Good Luck what are you thinking for new tank?
  7. Also, You might want to ask your insurance company if they offer a policy for such thing. If something was to happen- for a few dollars a month piece of mind.
  8. Wait I bet that is the April Fools. Now what do we believe.
  9. What type of fish? Climate? How deep will the water be? Above ground or below ground? I live in northeastern Pa. Near Pittsburgh, Pa. I have left feeder goldfish outside in a pond only 18-20 inches deep. Make sure to have a strong current so water doesn’t freeze solid. I would stop feeding mid August (if I fed at all) and increase the size of the water pump.
  10. I didn’t read all the replies so if I repeat I apologize in advance. first it is a new tank. Once tank is seasoned- say 7-9 months it will be easier and more stable. plants. Any plant will compete for the nutrients in the water. animals that eat algae- nerite snails are amazing. But different algae different animals. Amano shrimp. So many different fish eat algae (especially when a feeding a day is withheld) lighting. Not only hours.... but type and color. Or sunlight. Being near window. Manually removing until you get the tank dialed in. Good Luck
  11. Please keep us updated and let us know what light and how it is going Good Luck
  12. When this happens to me (Regardless of brands or manufacture) I have always figured the reading is between the two colors? Good Luck
  13. I would think it should be fine. Should bother the fry and adult fish and BN are pretty hardy fish. If uncomfortable a could nerite snails will handle the algae just fine. Good Luck
  14. Any and all plants. Remember you can always add fertilizer to the substrate and water. Also you can mix something like eco-complete to the gravel you already purchased. This is what I do. Good Luck
  15. This is a new setup? How long has tank been setup? To answer you question, I never trim the leaves- in fact I believe if the plant is struggling- browning leaves is a way for the plant to pull some nutrients back into roots and stem. I think things will be fine... New setup and the plants are just settling in. Give them a second to settle down. Think about that first day on a new job, or that first day at school after a summer off.. watch them give them some time to adjust. Good Luck
  16. I would say they are equal. I think sometimes people equate price into ease. Be honest if you purchase 24 neons at a dollar each and a 4 or 5 die off in the first month or so we tend to forget about it. If that happens to a cardinal we just paid 3.50 - 4.00 we tend to remember. Purchase good stock, feed well and make sure they are healthy. Good Luck
  17. A lot depends on breeder. Several years ago this fish was hard to find in Western Pennsylvania. So, when I found them I purchased 2 dozen of some of the saddest looking fish ever. But once I got them healthy they weren’t all that hard to maintain and spawn. They seem to enjoy the Hunt of live food. I also used it to encourage spawning. My all time favorite live foods are 01. Black Worms 02. Brine Shrimp 03. Mosquito Larva Good Luck
  18. I run mine 24/7. Changing the bulb every 12-14 months.
  19. Great..... I don’t think mine have grown at all..... Can’t wait for the updated photos. Good Luck
  20. I don’t like change. Just ask my wife and kids... And I believe my fish don’t like it either, lol. So, before changing what is working for you and your fish why not purchase two or three nerite snails and just watch them. If things look like they might be going sideways then you can decide to change water parameters or return the animals to the pet shop. I attached a photo of two of many nerite snails I have in my discus tank. PH 7.2-GH 75-KH 50-60.
  21. I don’t believe the answer is rain water. Driftwood may promote some. You can always and should in my opinion supplement their diet with other foods. Commercially made or with cucumber, zucchini, squash and green beans. You can also take some aquarium safe rocks and place in a shallow container of water and put out in the sun for a couple of days. Once covered in algae and bio film put in your tank. Good Luck
