  1. How long has the tank been setup? Before Aquarium Co Op, many years ago I tried Seachem products. I’m not a chemist nor do I want to be. I find once the tank is seasoned I started to add plants and I just use Easy Fertilizers from Aquarium Co Op. Maybe at first I tested Before and after water changes. Also I believe those products are more of an algae inhibitor. Good luck
  2. Thanks. I’ll have to look into that. I've never had a problem, but always looking to learn and try something new or better.
  3. It could be to bright if this is a new light. her age? Temperature? What type of betta? Could something be leaking electrical current into the tank? Do you have an air pump vibrating. Seasons are changing, November until now is the tank getting more sunlight? Is this a dragon scale? Years ago I had a dragon scale that had scales grow over its eyes. Was very frustrating, I believe it was a genetic defect. Keep us posted Good Luck
  4. fish are ok? Wow, so sorry. I raised African cichlids for many years. I alway think to myself female African cichlids will go 3-4 weeks and not eat. if the fish are healthy, I will leave them for a weekend all the time. Of course this changes if spawning or have fry and if you have a delicate fish.
  5. Maybe I missed it. What are the parameters of the tap water? while the tank cycles the parameters can bounce around. A seasoned tank can take months (8-9). I would not make a lot of changes. I like to do things slowly. Once you start changing things it could take several weeks or longer to see the results (good or bad) of the change. So many people will change three or four things and often make it worse.
  6. I have decorations and gravel in all my tanks. The gravel, rocks and driftwood hold a lot of bacteria. So, I only consider-think about mechanical filtration in my canister filters. I will use those sponge pads that come with the filters but I mostly fill them with fiber fill. Buy a big bag at fabric/craft stores really cheap.
  7. I think more unsightly and not harmful at all. I believe..
  8. Question… kind of off topic, but not. I always coat any and all O-Rings with petroleum jelly. Does anyone else do this? Just curious
  9. I am relatively new to plants. Only successful the last 5 or 6 years. I’ve always kept big cichlids, so I never really tried plants. So recently I started keeping live plants. I find they do best in a well seasoned (not cycled) tank. Maybe after 8 or 9 months. With the help of decent lights and I have been using all of the Easy Fertilizers. Good Luck.
  10. I have said many times I’m so glad my fish can’t read. Lol
  11. Remember cichlids can be pretty tough and rough on each other. I would do the water change and May service the filters and add some stress Coat. A little salt never hurts, unless you have plants and looks like you do. So if you use salt….. Be Careful….. I would not. As for Medicine, if the fish seems normal and healthy I would wait a couple days. Why stress the entire tank with meds? Good Luck
  12. Does it need to be under the tank? You could DIY a above the tank sump. Get a 01. small pump (from Aquarium Co Op). 02. A small planter. Those rectangular ones. 03. Whatever filter floss you like. 04. Maybe a pothos plant.
  13. Fry. At this size/stage could be anyone if the fish listed
  14. please excuse my nosey cats whiskers we all can use a helping hand-paw-whiskers from time to time…..
  15. Remember Tetra have a “Adipose” fin. I would guess Rosy Barb.
  16. A couple things. 01. Mean people. There are so many ways to accomplish something. And when someone offers some ideas of how they do it or have seen it done and others attack them for their opinion. 02. Poor care of fish in big box stores. If this was done to a dog, cat or bird they would be getting fines.
  17. I’ve been doing this for 50 years. 01. pick up a book. 02. Don’t only learn what the fish needs also learn about its behavior. 03. Make changes slowly. 04. Most people don’t clean a filter or water change until they have a problem. 05. Don’t get down on yourself, we are going to make mistakes and kill fish. 06. And the list goes on……..
  18. I don’t know if they eat them or just harass them so much with the constant mouthing of the gravel that they just die. sorry I’m little to no help
  19. Check with local schools, public libraries, nursing homes. Offer them to members of any local clubs.
  20. @Cory I ordered my heaters on Friday night. Received them before 1:00 pm on Monday. In the tank and plugged in before 1:30. And submitted a review. And I believe I submitted the 1st review. Thanks
  21. @Cory i think I’m going to go order 5 or 6 right now. I’m a little OCD and I thought the company name and logo would drive me nuts. But… I just saw the photos and with that size I’m pretty sure I can hide them.
  22. Western Pa. Here. My fish tanks are in my family room in the basement. My thermostat for the house is set to 71 - 72 degrees all year. In the winter my basement is 69-70 degrees, but in the summer the temperature can go as low as 64-65 degrees. Unplugging isn’t a real option for me.
  23. What does it feel like? That is strange. I’m guessing this grows/continues to get bigger? If you break some off and leave in the aquarium will it reattach to a different surface? Just curious, have you tested the water for the basics? If so what are the results? I’ve been keeping fish a long time and I have never seen anything like that in Freshwater. Before putting drift wood in the aquarium did you treat/scrub/disinfect the driftwood? Also did you purchase this wood or remove from a local waterway? Just a few questions to get me thinking.
  24. Looks great. I would let the tank mature and grow into it’s self. Add what you like.
