  1. Can you net it out? With something very fine? Maybe a brine shrimp net, or a coffee filter. Remove as much as possible and maybe increase surface movement and see if it comes back or not. Increased surface movement may also help gas it off. I wonder if your water at the tap had a higher than normal amount of something and what ever (Prime, api stress coat) you use to remove chlorine was just bonding with it and showed itself at the surface. Good Luck
  2. I guess as others said oxygen.. I apologize did read all the replies. But also with the circulation and movement at the surface isn’t it helping to also gas of any negatives. Good Luck
  3. I think the amount of time and money to do this would be crazy. Needing to reverse engineer so many different products. It’s not prefect but the wifi timers Aquarium Co Op already sell work so incredibly well. I purchased some a while back and haven’t needed to touch them since. Good Luck
  4. Congratulations…. Enjoy
  5. I use these and even smaller ones for my foods. Frozen peas, or my repashy. Play around with and foods and freeze them together. Great idea and Thanks for Sharing.
  6. In my opinion… General Cure is kind of like a shotgun approach. I haven’t used it in years and even then I didn’t find it to be the Cure. I found it to have a very low dose of active medication if I’m remembering correctly. Maybe others have had better luck? Good Luck
  7. I would just watch. A lot of dead animals can cause problems with bio-load and ammonia and so on. Maybe remove some before treating. Place a small dish in the aquarium with some algae wafers turn off lights. After a couple hours turn on lights and remove dish . After a couple days I’m sure you will remove a large number of them. Good Lucks
  8. I think at one time many many years ago it was believed that they reproduce asexually. I also believe that has been proven to not be true. I’m trying to find the article. I can’t remember now but I’m pretty sure the article said they are gonochorisic (check my spelling) and you need a male and female. Maybe the king of snails can give us some insight @Cory
  9. The one watching The Life Time or Hallmark channel is the female. So sorry I couldn’t resist.
  10. Slow down. I don’t recommend ever squeezing a fish gently or otherwise. I have never needed to do this in 50 plus years of fish keeping. Also I feel I’m not medically or otherwise qualified to do so. Could this fish be bullied? When they are bullied they will try to get as far away as possible. Also with the added stress and possible fin damage a fish can have elevated or rapid breathing. PVC pipe as hiding a place can do wonders. I use several located in the tank of different sizes. You can use string or fishing line to suspend them at the surface. I Like fishing line, draped over the tank. And if you want get the split shot weights used for fishing attached to the ends hanging over the tank to help keep them suspended at or near the surface. Also break the sight lines (out of sight, out the mind). Also when adding new African Cichlids, try when possible to add them trios. if hold eggs the buccal cavity will be enlarged. This is the lower jaw. could it be a Melanochromis auratus?
  11. So much going on. I was wondering what the source water test at? I concur cleaning to much . Let the tanks settle it. 01. could be bad stock. Do you buy your fish at the store? 02. A little salt can do wonders. 03. Fin rot could be a secondary symptom and the cause may be stress. 04. Quality and or types of food.
  12. Also, I would think some readings will change/differ based on when you test. Right after a feeding, water change or filter maintenance? @Cory care to weigh in on this? Any way I just used my three Easy Fertilizers and the only change I got after 45 minutes was my nitrates.
  13. This made test my water and test the test strips. I purchased mine March 21, 2021. And mine are still reading/working just fine. Nitrate between 25-50 Nitrites 0 Hardness 150 Buffer 40 PH 7.2 Chlorine 0 Out of 6 tanks all is about the same with three exceptions: planted tanks reading 0 on Nitrates. Time for some easy green I guess. Thanks again Co Op family for EZ fish keeping.
  14. I haven’t kept a fish I don’t or haven’t liked for one reason or another. I love them all I guess for what and who they are. I just can’t dislike something or someone for being who they are. With that said hybrids with a deformity I just don’t understand. Parrot fish or ballon live bearers and so on.
  15. May I ask where about you are? There was a guy in Ohio near Cleveland (Strongsville) that was selling stendker discus from Discus Hans. Years ago he was buying so many and getting a discount from Hans I was able to get some from him. He was charging about 6.00 over Hans’s price. But I didn’t need to sit around all day and wait for the overnight shipment. So I did pay about 36.00 more than buying direct. But back then overnight was around 95.00 to my zone. Oh wow I just checked the site. When I purchased mine (Stendker Tefe Discus Fish) I paid 42.00 a fish for 6 for the 3plus inch. Today they are 60.00 per plus shipping. https://discusfishstore.com/product-category/tefe-discus/
  16. I have been looking for a photo. I guess it got so routine I wasn’t taking very many. Here is one (a very bad one) from across the room. You can see all the algae and screen around the breeding cone…. I paired these four in that tank because once lights went out they ate the eggs and fry. But not after free swimming. So I left light on.
  17. Fine yourself a local breeder. Most here in Eastern Part USA charge about 10.00 an inch. I also would recommend spending more and get 3 1/2 inch fish.
  18. I never really had that happen. And I can tell you I would leave all the crap and even a little algae in/on it. Around day 12-16 I would notice the fry picking at it and eating whatever they could find. That was right around the time I started fresh baby brine. Around 21-25 days I started removing fry to grow out tanks.
  19. I spawned mine in a bare bottom 75 gallon tank I split in half with a large piece of poret filter foam I got from SwissTropicals. I would put a pair on each side.
  20. Looks great. I just recently stopped keeping/spawning discus after about 12 years. I keep thinking to myself should I get more.. Good Luck
  21. Northern Brethren here. I have a small pond here (Western Pennsylvania) about 125 gallons. My pond fish ( 0.10 goldfish) winter over in my pond. I have been checking water temperatures-early morning temperatures average 66-68 and late day 72-74 over the last 3 weeks. My pond is in the ground and that most likely helps. So I see you posted about 2 months ago…. It only took two months but now we can enjoy our outside fish. 😂. BTW this will be the third summer for my 10 cent goldfish.
  22. Very nice. . what size aquarium is that?
  23. I guess it comes down to personal preferences. I try to look at most things as risk and rewards. Good Luck
  24. Whatever you feed your fish or other snails should be fine. But, make sure you target feed them as well as any other members of your clean up crew. Algae wafers- cucumbers- zucchini- any sinking pellet food and so no. Good Luck
  25. I can’t help but think just maybe the first fish died from an unrelated cause. And maybe the water change had something to do with the others. The material used for the lid you made should be safe. I can only guess that a lot of DIY’ers have done the same. But we don’t know if the materials used could have been contaminated while in shipping or sitting on the shelf.
