  1. I would get some levels (at least two, a 2 foot and a 4 foot) and start with the floor. Place masking tape around the base of the stand on the floor. Around the location of the tank. Making sure floor is level. Try to make all adjustments between floor and stand. If floor is level, check top of stand prior to putting the tank on stand. If it isn’t level I would still make adjustments at the floor. You can make or buy shims. I recently used black plastic one I picked up at a hardware store. Once top of stand is level, you should be good. You can also pick up a roll of a foam insulation or package material. It is around 1/8 or 1/4 inch thick. Cut to fit and put between tank and stand. This will help with minor imprecations between tank and stand. thanks.
  2. Not sure if this will help or not, several years ago I purchased a used tank and the previous owner was always cleaning the front glass and in doing so scratched it along the bottom. They used a DIY sand and that was hard on the finish. But the hardly ever cleaned the back glass. I was able to turn the tank around and hide the scratches with plants and decorations. I will attach photos, don’t judge I have been cleaning out plants and still need to give away more.
  3. So, for the last 20 plus years I have purchased 95% of my new fish from auctions or fish clubs. With everything going on local clubs are not meeting. Is anyone else having a hard time finding and purchasing what they consider common fish? I have been trying to purchase hatchetfish, clown loaches, blood fin tetras and rummy nose tetras. thanks
  4. So is this normal? It has been about 3 weeks. Still melting back. I was hoping by now I would see so sort of new growth. Plant now only has three leafs and appear to have any new growth.
  5. With everything going on last year my wife and I spent a lot of time at Presque isle State Park in Erie, Pa. just sitting and walking/watching.
  6. Yes. I agree hard to tell, but I would agree with others. The only thing I might add, it appears to be a male bristlenose. Thanks for sharing
  7. Here in PA we also have the trout in the classroom. Several years ago I donated a complete 55 gallon setup. For the first several years I went in and did the initial counting of viable fry upon arrival. It’s amazing what a child can do/learn when having fun.
  8. EZ. Regardless of old or new bottle. EZ. One pump per 10 gallons. Depending of course tank size, maintenance, fish load and types and number of plants. It is a starting point and I like to adjust slowly over time.
  9. Sometimes I think location of plant is just as important as to type of plant. Let me explain, if all the plants are along the substrate they don’t provide any protection while fry are at the surface - as well if all mid-water or at surface then fry don’t have cover while swimming along substrate. So pick plants you like for all three locations. Surface, MidWater and bottom of aquarium.... if you don’t like floating plants or plants that grow to the upper third of your aquarium you can always glue a Java fern or some type of anubias to the top of a rock or piece of driftwood. good luck
  10. I agree with James, that is to say do what you like. But it does look amazing along the back wall of any aquarium. With proper care and fish it will fill in your aquarium. I have found those long flowing leaves are irresistible to a lot of fish. good luck
  11. I would agree lefty. Maybe call and ask a friend or neighbor to take them in until you get home?
  12. I am not a plant guy.... But I believe the Java fern will do best sitting on the substrate. That’s to say over time it will die off if the rhizome (the thick part of the roots) are buried. You can tie or rubber band them to anything. Wood, rocks. Or order some glue from Co-Op and glue them. Good Luck
  13. My thought process is most (or at least some) people wait until they have a problem and then do something. Like water changes or own salt or medicine or test kit. I try to be proactive. But also when it comes to my fish tanks when things are balanced, I make changes slowly. So I guess what I am saying.... at least order the EZ Tabs. And maybe add just one near the plant. Wait and see. In a month maybe add another. Just a thought and thanks for sharing your tank. good luck
  14. Just a couple weeks ago I ordered plant from the Co-Op. I was home when packaged arrived. I wondered about the temperature so I scanned the box as I was bringing it it (30 ish) after opening the box I scanned the inside of the new plant zip lock shipping bag. It was 55 degrees.
  15. Incase this is important: TDS- 184 out of the tap GH-120 KH-80 ish PH- 7.4-7.5 Nitrites-0 Nitrates- < 20 on API test strip but not zero. The light is a Marineland LED 36 inches long 468 lumens Light Appearance 7800K
  16. As stated, the tank is a 46 gallon bow front. The plant was already converted to under water growth. The dose is one pump each of the EZ products each morning. My test kit is old, and I need to pick up a new one. My test is showing about 5-10 ppm. (I had shoulder surgery about a month ago and haven’t been able to get out. Large tears in three muscles in rotator cuff and also bicep ). BTW Cory and Co-Op needs to put out more videos..... I am so bored.... Thanks for fast response
  17. Ok, so about a week ago I ordered several plants. 3 C. Parva. 2 C. Lutea . 1 Dwarf Sagittarius. All in a new set up 46 gallon bow front. Also 1 Micro Sword. 2 C. Lucens. These plants are in a well seasoned 125 gallon tank. What follows is the same for both tanks and procedures of the planting. Substrate is mostly river gravel (about 75%)from landscaping supply company that was rinsed, but not washed. Leaving dust/dirt that comes with it. Remaining substrate (25%) is eco complete. Before planting I removed plant and wool from basket covered bottom of basket with eco complete and then ez tab. Carefully opened wool and placed another ez tab below roots put it back in basket. Once a day ( five days a week) in the 125 - 2 pumps of the following EZ iron, EZ carbon and EZ green, the temperature in this tank is about 84 degrees (this is a discus tank). The 46 gallon tank with the dwarf sag is about 76 degrees and it receives one pump five days a week of the same three EZ fertilizer products. Oh yes, lighting. Both tanks receive 14 hours of light per day. my question is 01. Is it normal for the dwarf sag to melt back? 02. Or, am I doing- or have done something wrong? also I was home when delivery was made. Outside temperature was around 32 ish I think, but inside box temperature was around 55 degrees.
  18. So, when I was a young boy and I purchased Black AngelFish I would get a black fish. Today I see people advertise black or double black or even double dark black angel fish. What you end up with is a grey or Smokey kind of looking fish. A while back I started to selective breed my darkest fish to see if I could get a truly black angelfish. I was just wondering if anyone else has done anything like this? I apologize for quality of photo, this is the current fish (and Darkest) I am working with. Brian
  19. I get it. For some fish maybe. But Bettas, I put this in the category just because we can doesn’t mean we should. This fish is amazing and already available in some majestic colors. And yes kinda new. Maybe 10 months or so.
