  1. I hope you husband recovers quickly, not being mobile really sucks! I really like the awesome images of the lily. It's getting cold enough at night here in Idaho I think I'm going to have to bring mine in to overwinter soon. Love the rice fish updates, Ive been toying with trying some in my 75 gallon. Good to hear the nets work so good,I got a few and haven't tried them out yet. I'm about to move my young kubotai out of the quarantine tank, I'll try out the new net then.
  2. They perform the same function. I have 4 or 5 of the kind that stick on the back with suction cups. I do like the ability to move the positioning of the sponge if needed. However, 3 of them just won't stay stuck to the side. I eventually zip tied a rock to the bottom and and now they are weighted 🙂
  3. Welcome to the forum. Lots of room in that tank, looking forward to seeing what you put in there!
  4. Very cool, I've though of doing this but I want it in the water. That's still out of my budget range.
  5. Finally got some "green" Babaulti shrimp. Here they are showing their fickle color morphs... I really need to get a macro lens for the phone. I have a hard time keeping them in focus, and these little buggers are almost never in the front of the tank.
  6. Wow, can you imaging trimming a carpeting plant in that thing... bet it made an awesome display tank though!
  7. Welcome to the forum, beautiful tanks you have!
  8. Nerites are so odd sometimes. we've got some that are over 2 years old now. I think the favorite pastime of mine is jungle val basket weaving. They like to climb out to the ends and make them sink, and then just keep doing that until it's all interwoven.
  9. @Tanked Amanos can be spendy depending on the source. Last time I looked Aqua Huna has good prices on them. They are escape artists so lid is a good idea. I didn't have mine more than a couple week and half of them disappeared. Found out later some had climbed out and ended up on floor behind the tank. The others I found when cleaning the HOB filter. Nothing like having what at first glance looks like a grey 2 inch spider run across your hand lol. @Patrick_G I agree the loach is probably stressing them out so they are in hiding. I was watching one of Lucas Bretz's youtube videos and he mentioned once he had a tank that he was going to tear down and he found a whole colony of shrimp under a log or some rocks, almost like an ant farm. I couldn't find the video, (he has a lot) or I would have linked it.
  10. It's frustrating and sad to lose fish, but more so when there's no apparent reason. I'm thinking the pond/tub guppy thing is good (when possible) for the reason @Torrey brought up, survival of the fittest. I've had some in a tub outside all summer. If those guppies were inside, I'd have probably over 100 by now. Out there I might have only 20 fry. Those are going to be some tough fish. If you are up for it, I'd try getting them again from a different source. Once you get a sturdy line you'll soon be swimming in guppies (pun intended). If I could find willing victims... err recipients, I could probably populate the whole state of Idaho in a year with those colorful little buggers 🙂
  11. Got the plant table finished. Haven't filled it up yet but my wife is working on it 🙂 I made the bottom what I'm calling a smuggler's shelf. Not screwed in so I can remove the boards, when our cats decide to boop toys and/or dead bugs under there... assembled and awaiting finish work creative clamping - too stubborn to use the nail gun snug fit didn't take long to "plant" it. wonder if she'll notice a daphina culture on that bottom shelf...
  12. Unless it as showing signs of distress or had an illness, it's possible it just passed due to bad genetics. Guppies being so popular don't always get bred for longevity, mostly to make them colorful because they sell better. I've heard of some only living 6 months to less than a year. On the other end of the spectrum you have some like mine who are almost bullet proof. I had one get sucked through my power head while doing a water change... didn't phase him a bit. -shrug-
  13. I usually feed once or twice a day depending on the type of food and amount. Unless I have fry, or I'm trying to encourage spawning (live foods). I typically will go at least one day a week without feeding.
  14. Heh, with guppies the old saying "careful what you wish for" really has some merit 🙂
  15. Need a bit more info, size of tank, location (is it by a window), what kind of light are you using, and how long is it on? Not that this helps you but.. wow, I wish I could get that green water 🙂
  16. Glad you got a workaround for your Hygger! I use a power head with an old piece of python hose attached to the output, to add water back to the tank. I just drop it in to my tote (bucket) and hold the hose in place until I'm done. I had same issue as Hobbit (needing three hands) until I zip tied a power strip with a on/off switch to my water change cart. I just flip the switch when I want the pump to shut off.
  17. It'd be a drop in the bucket for API to send you another one and keep up customer satisfaction. My wife has sent polite complaints to manufacturers more than a few times and they almost always make it right.
  18. I immediately heard this in the faux Jacques Cousteau voice 🙂 ...Oh the hours I spent watching this with my kids!
  19. I have HOB on several of my tanks. I do the bottle trick with the big tanks, but on a 20 or a 10 gallon you an just put a small breeder box under the outflow. Some of mine have zip ties holding them in place, and a few have just suction cups. It keeps the duckweed out of the outflow and forces it either to the side, or straight down. Either case would probably work good for the betta. My Wife's betta is in a 10 gallon tank right now with this set up.
  20. White balance? On the what did I get done, got the trim glued on the plant table I've been working on. Now just need to finish sand and seal it. I think I may be able to sneak in a nano tank on the end of it 🙂
