  1. I wouldn't risk anything that was exposed to roundup. Even if it's been a few years, but that's just me. Do you have access to rocks in an actual river? If so, try those and just boil them...
  2. They are small crustaceans, commonly called water fleas. I got mine as a culture on line. I think Cory has an article on keeping them. Here it is https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/daphnia-culturing-how-to-raise-daphnia?_pos=1&_sid=c82b1c14a&_ss=r I thought there was a youtube video as well? Your fish if they are at least as big as an adult guppy, will probably eat them before they reproduce . My small rasboras had a hard time eating the adult daphina, they were too big. Daphnia can make green water crystal clear in a day if you have enough of them. However, with no predators the culture can crash pretty easy. I had mine in a ten gallon and I would just dip some out every day for my other tanks. I eventually needed the daphnia tank for excess guppies, so I fed the remainder of them to my goldfish...
  3. If you are up for it, throw a few daphnia in there. They love green water and are pretty efficient at cleaning it up. Depending on what kind of fish you have in there they'll get eaten. I did have an issue here my Kubotai couldn't eat the adults because the fish were too small 🙂
  4. Awesome pictures! I think I've seen some of these on the other forum?
  5. Great progress, looking forward to more updates!
  6. Welcome to the forum! What fish are you currently keeping now that you are back to fish keeping?
  7. Welcome to the forum. your tank looks great! There are some really colorful female guppy varieties out there now. If you get them young, there would be less chance of a guppy population explosion 🙂 . Gouramis are pretty tough, and like guppies are omnivorous. So they could survive on plant matter and algae for a while, if there ends up being a lapse in on-site fish keeping at the school. Gourami are also a labyrinth fish, so can usually last a bit longer in less than optimal water conditions, again in case there's a lapse in maintenance at the school.
  8. Very informative and thorough journal, thanks for sharing! Love the videos.
  9. As far as I know Legos are inert. Unless you have some that have been exposed to heavy detergents or some other household chemical they should be ok. I think I saw a post in here - yeah here it is Interested to see what you come up with !
  10. I just found this journal, awesome work, both on the tank and the diplomacy!! 🙂
  11. Very nice set up, I see you planned for expansion 🙂
  12. Thanks for the update, those babies are looking good so far!
  13. It should. Once you get used to your fish and the maintenance routines it should end up being a source of relaxation. Kind of like aquatic gardening 🙂
  14. Welcome to the forum, and Ditto, would be awesome to see some picture!
  15. I can't seem to get a non-blurry picture but was able to get a short bit of video. https://youtu.be/kY4mM4sioS0
  16. Never fails to get me excited when I see fry. Gotta love those little eyes with tails moving around in there. Congratulations, looking forward to seeing how they do.!
  17. I have 2 goldfish in mine, and they overwinter just fine. I use a stock tank heater that floats on top to keep it from icing over. The fish just go dormant when it gets to cold. Don't feed them when they do that. There's some pretty good pond info in here, and some real experienced pond keepers that I'm sure will chime in with tips...
  18. I got 8 and they are about an inch long. So far they have been hanging out in a little gang and seem to cruise around like that with a few stragglers doing their own thing. They are very camera shy, as soon as I get the phone close to the tank they scatter...
  19. I'd say Jack Dempsey for pure angst. Although if you like keeping wrecking balls, you can't beat an Oscar. I've had both, and I'd have to say the Oscar was a better pet. He recognized me and I could hand feed him, he just destroyed everything in the tank. The Dempsey was just pure hatred, he was mad at the world and everything in it. Pretty fish though...
  20. Finally got some cories! I have been trying to time the delivery schedule to miss the summer long heatwaves here in Spudland. Saw a few days predicted to be under 95 and went for it. I have been eyeballing the laser cories for about a year now. Got them in yesterday and they are doing fine so far. I'll try and post pictures later today. They are zooming around in small packs of 4 or 5. That tank has been housing my female guppies so it'll be nice to have fish cruising the lower part of the tank. They are only just over an inch long so I'm guessing pretty young?
  21. Sorry you lost your cory, he/she lived a long life. You are definitely taking great care of them!
