  1. I listened to Zeppelin on the way to work today, but last year or year before I heard a tune by these kids and it gave me chills, First album I've bought in years!
  2. Do you have the airstone in there. Also, when ready to harvest a small light at bottom will attract the swimmers to it. The unhatched and shells should float (after the airstone is turned off). You could also have some dud eggs, even so some of them should have hatched...
  3. Winterized my tub pond and put it in the shop. I still need to make a lid for it. Only getting down to 60 at night so far, but October is coming...
  4. Wow, I think I may have maxed out my Likes for the day on this thread. So many things .... It's discovering new fry, I found a baby emperor tetra in the wife's 55. I was so exited I scared her. she was reading and I burst out like a little kid, "look at this!" A new leaf or the flower that popped up on one of my anubias. Watching the antics of the shrimp in the 75. The Amano's stealing a pellet and spending 15 or more minutes trying to keep the others from getting it. The challenge of trying to catch the brown shrimp in my wife's tank (trying to keep the red line strong in there). They are very crafty and I think they like to taunt me. Sitting in the fish room, in the ginormous bean bag chair and letting the movement of the fish and the sound of the sponge filter bubbles relax me. I should call it the nap room 🙂 This forum...
  5. hmm, yeah the lid could be a challenge. The "small" co-op net has a pretty short handle and surprisingly good sized net area. Maybe that would work?
  6. @laritheloud Here's a trick I used to catch a dozen neon tetras in a fully planted 75. I still have nightmares of trying to net them the normal way. I wait until night time so the lights have been out for hours and it is truly dark in the room. It sounds extreme but I did this at like 1:30 AM, so as to make sure the little buggers were sleeping. Leaving all the lights out, I used a strong flashlight and nabbed them then with my net. They kind of freeze for about 2 or 3 minutes and are much easier to net. Much easier on the fish and plants and your sanity. So far this method has worked for all my fish. Well, except for guppies who almost swim in to the net. 🙂
  7. Wow, beautiful tank, sooo much real estate! Seeing the plants grow in and multiply is very satisfying. When that tiger lotus starts to fill out it'll be impressive. Mine was sending "pads" to the top a couple times a week there for a while.
  8. Catching them in a fully planted tank can be a real challenge, just a heads-up. So, maybe get what you want to have in the 10 gallon, and just wait until the 75 is ready and add new ones to that tank.
  9. My grandfather did beekeeping until he physically couldn't do it anymore. I can still remember the smells of his workshop. The combination of the pine from making the beehives (and all his other projects), and the smell of the honeycomb was awesome! I still think of that every time I work with pine in my shop. Oh and looking forward to tank updates! 🙂
  10. I like the different organization methods.. I just use those little canvas closet tote/cubes. They sit under my stands, unless there's a tank under there 🙂
  11. I rinse mine in tank water, mostly because all my tanks have shrimp. The babies love to hang out in my filer media. I don't want them going down the sink or getting shocked from my tap which has gone through a water softener. My outside taps are straight from the well but that water is super cold. Forgot to add I rarely clean my filter media or pre-filter sponges unless it restricts water flow.
  12. Grats on getting some healthy CPDs from a box store! Mine are little piggies and will eat almost anything as long as it is tiny 🙂
  13. Welcome to the forum, nice looking set up so far! What size tanks do you plan on getting in there?
  14. I got it from watching Mark's video. I Linked his page but didn't link the actual video. I can't find the youtube video, but here's a link to his article on it. How To Make Shrimp Food From Duckweed
  15. Turned out really good! Thanks for sharing your pond journal, I really enjoyed it.
  16. I have a whole gallon bag of duckweed saved up. I'll get a new batch made up soon and summarize the results for the new, improved, "thicker" version, lol
  17. @Marnol D I created a separate post, so as to not hijack this one. @Tihshho the stuff I made went through a blender, then gets spread out on a pan and dried. Link below... Duckweed food
  18. Posted this about 8 months ago on another forum, edited it here for relevance. Duckweed food Inspired by Marks Shrimps - https://marksshrimptanks.com/ Basically get a boatload of duckweed, my first batch I used about a half gallon. My next batch I'm going to make thicker and will probably use the whole gallon freezer bag. Take your duckweed, some spirulina, bee pollen, and some bentonite clay. You could add repashy powder as well. then dump it in a blender and make a smoothy. Spread it out on a pan (I lined mine with wax paper) and let it dry. Cut or break it into pieces, I kept mine in the fridge and it lasted until I used it all up 2 to 4 months later. Check out Marks video, he explains and shows you how he does it better than I do. I had been throwing away buckets of duckweed (this was before it was warm enough to feed to my goldfish), and finally decided to do something with it. Besides the duckweed I have bee pollen, spirulina and some bentonite clay. A half gallon of duckweed filled up a cookie pan. It turned out pretty good, the shrimp and otos love it! Some things I discovered. 1) I should not spread it so thin next time on the wax paper, it came out like a green fruit roll up lol. 2) takes a few days to dry depending on how thick you spread it 3) It lasts a long time in tank before breaking down. 4) The ingredients only cost me about 24 dollars and will probably last me a year. 5) I need to measure how much of each ingredient, I'm really bad about that and regret it later..
  19. LOL, it's like a 10 foot paint job, if you get closer than 10 feet you can see all the flaws 🙂 I have such a hard time getting decent lumber, I have to do a lot of creative clamping/gluing and belt sanding. I do get a lot of satisfaction building stuff though, and it makes good use of my shop!
  20. I have a regular sponge filter in bottom of mine, it creates a lot of flow. I'm using an old air pump that's at least 2 decades old and has really good output (surprisingly). Haven't tried the USB pump in there yet.
  21. I just removed mine. A couple were on a bit tight, but got all 3. Turns out I had another 10 gallon with the same filter..
  22. @Tihshho I never tried with the 90 out of the water or removed, great idea, thanks!. I'd like to get a bit more flow in 2 of my 10 gallons.
  23. My shrimp like the crevices in the sponge. I think it makes them feel safer when grazing on it.
