  1. Here is a photo after probably two years without a water change.
  2. (Found on Reddit)
  3. I enjoy this plant, but it grows almost as fast as duckweed, so prepare for dealing with excess!
  4. I think members can edit thread titles. You just have to be on the first post. If this is not the case, I will look at the permissions.
  5. Food seems to be a fun side-topic on this forum. Cabot, our local Vermont/New York dairy cooperative, now has their own Mac and Cheese boxes. I got a couple of boxes to try, but I sent them with my friend who is moving back to Utah. https://www.cabotcheese.coop/premium-macaroni-cheese/ I like mine al Dente with a bit of crispy bacon crumbles. What do you like for this perfect food?
  6. When I was researching the difference, I found all these cool ramp festivals in the southeast. Of course, I can’t remember which we have here in Vermont!
  7. Does anyone here collect ramps or leeks in the spring? My folks get a bunch in the woods.
  8. “Everyone loves fishing in Québec.” - Letterkenny I love seeing more of these outdoor journals!
  9. @James Black, I ran these 2.5 gallon tanks with lights and various filters for a while, as I was learning. After running no-tech outdoor tubs, and dealing with ambient light for indoor tanks, I decided that my tech was taking up too much room in these small aquariums. They are on the northern side of my apartment, so the light is mellow.
  10. I need to top-off these windowsill shrimp tanks. The middle tank is just a wet houseplant for now.
  11. Extra credit for @Kevin green after watching the livestream!
  12. @Aubrey, please edit your signature to include links to your journals! I love following the adventures of members with local outdoor water exploration!
  13. @Daniel evaluated 14,000,605 potential futures and found the one that allowed the forum to achieve maximum community success.
  14. I will may have to rehome two pairs of SAEs from 16 and 20 gallon tanks if they get much bigger. They didn’t do as much for hair algae as I had hoped, but they are really cool community fish. They eat the same food as the other inhabitants, and may pick at some algae. I was able control the hair algae better with window curtains for ambient light, but I have actually been enjoying it in one tank as long as it is just attached to my Mopani wood.
  15. Hi @Leo2o915, I started this thread to try to create a useful FAQ for the forum, especially dealing with the app interface, updates, and some programming tips, collected in the first post. It is also about community sharing. For my own programming, I have focused on a dual siesta schedule, because it works for me. If you wanted to try that, you could look at my 20 gallon program, and just increase the peak levels for your larger tank. This thread is full of cool programming ideas from fellow members with a variety of tank sizes and conditions.
  16. I can’t prove this, but I think some of my shrimp get browner from grazing wood. I see it most with my Amanos. I think that this is just from being partially translucent.
  17. I thought Saratoga Springs was in New York? I have a Utah friend, so this is cool!
  18. I moved my female Betta into a community tank, and she spots me from across the room!
  19. That is the Winooski river in Waterbury, Vermont, where I live. It eventually feeds into Lake Champlain.
  20. I had fewer issues with my one tank with a lid when I took out the plastic hinge for the front piece of glass. That change allowed more humidity to escape.
  21. I got out on the water for my first weekend race of the year. It was a glorious day! Can anyone identify this plant? Do we have Cryptocoryne on Lake Champlain?
  22. @Alexa, that is so gorgeous! So many beautiful plants, and a full spectrum of color!
  23. @James Black, I look forward to following this! I really enjoy seeing nature in different places.
  24. There are many ways to run these lights. I enjoy the dual siestas with my substrate style, because I get really predictable results. I grow plants, and just enough algae. I get to wake up with my tanks, see them for lunch on the weekends, and watch them go dark like a sunset every night. I also get the side-effect of seeing my shy fish come out during each siesta.
