Found a Vintage 20 Long at a Flea Market
Streetwise replied to Indlers's topic in Photos, Videos & Journals
One option to strengthen the tank would be some sort of fiber tape looped twice around the frame. -
Do you have any thoughts on the Neptune Systems SKY?
-
Thanks for sharing this. I like to see what our marine cousins are doing since I haven’t had a saltwater tank for a decade. I know Kessil has freshwater lights, but which others on the list are in both markets?

That looks like the color of Cyanobacteria that you see in marine tanks.

Well, we had fun with my little hot-take! 😆 Maybe I should say topsoil. I don’t mind the term dirt, it is just ‘dirted’ that grinds my gravel. For the so-called ‘Walstad Method’, perhaps I should have said it is a fan-creation, and is subjective. I am certainly a fan, and try to do my best. I have described my tanks as Walstad tanks in the past. Maybe the better term is Walstad-inspired. Cheers!

Keep an eye out for that dude. He might end up leveling tanks in your fish room. Keep him and any assistants hydrated.

Water changes are they really necessary?
Streetwise replied to Captain Salad's topic in General Discussion
Local water parameters really make this a complicated topic. -
I just want to say a few things about this slice of the hobby: Dirted: please do not use this non-word. It makes it sound like organic soil is an afterthought, and not the first layer. Walstad Method: There is no such thing. I love her book, and I return to it all the time. I don’t have any arguments with her text or advice. However, she does not define a method or technique. She gives us science and advice. This is why I use the term, organic soil aquarium. If I mess up in my setup, it is not a Walstad issue, it is a Streetwise issue.

Thanks for the compliments! Since I returned to freshwater, I have only done organic soil tanks, besides those with just wood, epiphytes, mulm, and snails, so they are my baseline. I need a decent staycation to do more with my tanks, since I really only have four with fish, two others with shrimp, and I haven’t gotten any new inhabitants for maybe a year. If you want to try organic soil tanks or nano/pico tanks, don’t feel any pressure to stock them. I love doing wet houseplants with my extra plants and wood. Cheers!

Water changes are they really necessary?
Streetwise replied to Captain Salad's topic in General Discussion
I mostly run organic soil tanks, and I enjoy them because I can count on biology to keep things stable. I try to find a balance where top-offs are the only time that I have to think about water. I am very lucky with my water, and can top-off from my tap. My other tanks have mulm that I squeezed out of sponges, with epiphytes and wood. -

@ARMYVET, watch TENET, and Robert Pattinson will make sense. I never watched Twilight, and only saw him in Harry Potter. He was bloody awesome in TENET. I have watched it at least a dozen times this year. I also love the Nolan trilogy. Let’s send this sidebar to our other thread:- 87 replies

That looks awesome! You certainly don’t need different lighting, but have you window-shopped the Neptune Systems SKY? I don’t have the tank for it, but I do have an Apex, so it is cool to see new technologies that integrate with it.
