  1. I don’t have any documentation for this, but waxy houseplants seem to do the best dipped into aquarium environments. They seem more resistant to rotting in water. Everyone knows pothos, but I like rubber plants.
  2. We had another cool thread like this when the forum started. I will add hair picks and combs for duckweed removal. Bucket sifters for sorting substrate, and even filtering water changes to save shrimp fry.
  3. You can remove most duckweed, but it is hard to remove all. You might have to keep those tweezers sharp.
  4. I have had less growth from other plants like cryptocoryne, when sharing a tank with vallisneria or Amazon sword. Maybe they just eat more, grow faster, and spread longer roots. Don’t quote me.
  5. I think some of the appeal of tetras and danios is that they look so hydrodynamic, like they evolved to swim fast, or at least accelerate rapidly. They are also similar to the fish many of us saw growing up, in rivers and lakes.
  6. @CT_, it must have copied and pasted links rather than images. I’m glad you got everything to show!
  7. @CT_, @CalmedByFish, it looks like those images are hosted by Google Photos or Drive, but are not publicly-accessible. When I right-click and open in a new tab, it prompts me to sign-in to Google. You may need to change the sharing settings for the album or folder. Alternatively, you can upload them here.
  8. I have 30-year-old Mopani wood still releasing tannins. I love it!
  9. As an organic topsoil aquarist, I enjoy threads about substrate recipes.
  10. I did a bucket test with maple leaves last year to see what they did for tannins and pH. I think I got pH to drop from mid 7s to high 6s. I could have used the bucket to condition water to add to tanks.
  11. @Dan_C, we have a modest community of freshwater Neptune Apex users here:
  12. The news is true, with an October 2023 release target. I enjoyed this first one. It did a good job setting up the situation. The cinematography and sound was epic. I like it even better knowing we will get more.
  13. @HotTunaCartel, you should be able to achieve that. My indoor and homestead journals have some examples.
  14. @Stephen Zawacki, I worry that you want the largest fish for the smallest tanks. If I were back in college, I would do plants, snails, shrimp, and only the smallest fish. You will move many times!
  15. @Fish Folk, thanks for that video. There is so much simple joy in seeing fish swim in a gentle current.
  16. Can you please share some photos of your existing tanks?
  17. I love ember tetras, glowlight tetras, and the underrated bloodfin tetras.
  18. That means I got to party like it was 1199! See you in 800 posts!
