  1. I took a photo to show tannins after a move, and ended up with a surreal image:
  2. I love keeping extra plants in spare tanks. If I ever have an emergency requiring a half dozen anubias, I am ready.
  3. For many questions, the best answer is, “more plants!”
  4. This forum is good for mental health!
  5. I believe the branding was changed when the felt changed. @Cory updated the description on the store: It is now the Ziss Adjustable Air Stone.
  6. @Kittkat1981, I caught my share of frogs and toads as a kid, but I have not kept them.
  7. I am not the primary or secondary caretaker of this turtle, but I have tried to make some upgrades.
  8. Dune, Dune, Dune. I’m currently watching white clouds.
  9. I have dealt with various floating plant carpets with shrimp, and separating fry from plants is an ongoing challenge.
  10. Plants and wood always help. Then add more plants.
  11. I think I got a discount on my last order.
  12. Which of these would be able to automatically prime with a half-filled 55 gallon turtle tank? It was too much air distance for my Eheim.
  13. @KaitieG, I was just describing my small plant + snail aquariums as wet houseplants, because you can enjoy them like houseplants, with minimal work, and not worrying about keeping up with another fish tank. It is also a fun way to try a Walstad-inspired setup, or as a prequel to keeping shrimp. They actually help me to remember to water my regular houseplants! My smallest is 1.25 gallons.

  15. I have two in a 16 and two in a 20. They are now my largest fish.
  16. I feel like the Dymax needs to be in these discussions:
  17. @Atitagain, if you can get it to touch the waterline, it will wick the water like a sponge. You can also pour all of your new water on it.
  18. Your plants are epic, and your tank looks really nice. I’m sure you would be fine with just a sponge.
  19. I know folks are discussing both aquatic and terrestrial moss here. I don’t think that terrestrial moss can survive more than one season underwater, as a survival skill. I don’t see it in the lakes and rivers of Vermont, except at or above the waterline.
  20. It sounds like depth and flow control are key to keeping nutrients in the substrate with these setups. It would be cool to see roots penetrate the filter grid to get at the mulm underneath.
