  1. I like that photo because it has both SAEs and an Amano chilling in the shade. After moving some inhabitants around so that I can redo my oldest tank, I realized that I seem to have a ‘type’ or two for my fish. White Clouds, Bloodfin tetras, Glowlight tetras, ember tetras, and celestial pearl danios all have a similar thin hydrodynamic shape like trout. Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus, and SAEs all have a flatter and more curved shark shape, but are still very hydrodynamic, and share horizontal stripes. I guess those are the fish shapes I enjoy, like fast sailboats.
  2. I would love to see a video, even if it is just your plants moving in the flow.
  3. @Mmiller2001, you remind me of my Subaru WRX and STi friends. You really tune your tanks for maximum performance. I enjoy watching your updates!
  4. Consider dropping your blue to 0-2%, and lowering your other light levels. A longer siesta might also help.
  5. @HotTunaCartel, I finally watched 8 Mile recently. I had an expectation that it would build up to the iconic song, but I was glad that it had an independent story. I really enjoyed it.
  6. @Currier1, @Cory has debunked myths about gravel and risk to bottom feeders. He doesn’t talk much about organic soil tanks, because the practitioners represent such a tiny slice of the hobby. I try to help others who keep organic soil tanks. The forum is great for this! I recommend 1-1.5 inches of organic soil, with a minimal gravel cap. My reference is Diana Walstad.
  7. @Currier1, I have removed some sand from aquariums where I used it as a cap, but I obviously can’t get it all out. Stirring it into the organic soil can help break up any barrier layer. I try to use the most minimal caps that I can get away with, since it is easier to add than subtract. I just moved all inhabitants out of my oldest tank, and will have to decide if I can improve the layering, or if I will have to start over.
  8. Are there other threads on this topic? Should we merge for a TV/film aquarium thread? Edit: I merged all but Greatest Movies, because the premise was not about aquariums on-screen.
  9. @Zenzo, what do think about the Manning brothers’ alternate MNF show? I have only seen a couple of them, but I love hearing them break down strategy, tactics, and what people are thinking in different situations. It reminds me of watching the Red Sox with a super fan buddy of mine who knows all the details.
  10. NCAAF/NFL/CFL players are carrying a lot of weight in protective gear. Ice Hockey players are also layered up, and run in shifts. For any sport that you didn’t play, watch it with someone who has, or a lifelong fan. They will provide the backstory, or you can do that for another friend.
  11. @Zenzo, excellent description. I enjoy many sports with different rules, objectives, and various optimizations. Sailboat racing has some very interesting rules.
  12. @lefty o, I was going to suggest a poem or an interpretative dance. Well done!
  13. I am an American who almost exclusively watches European football, especially the EPL. American Football is a military simulation, with all sorts of pauses in play. Soccer, a term invented by the British, means Association Football, and includes two 45 minute halves with no commercial interruptions.
  14. I like rocks, and have used them, but in organic soil tanks, you risk creating an anaerobic spot underneath them. I learned this with my tubs. You could plan for this with substrate placement, but I always improvise!
  15. @Currier1, if you are going to update your organic soil cap, I suggest gravel rather than sand, so the soil can breathe better and not go anaerobic.
  16. I always use the grid overlay on my iPhone shots. I choose one point, two point, or three point perspective for each tank shot. For fish photos, I try not to worry about framing the tank. Room light sometimes helps, but not always. The same can be true for sunlight. Some lights have a manual setting that is different than the schedule, which can be useful. I tend to just photograph my tanks in their current conditions, with other lights off.
  17. I use pieces of wood in my tanks to provide mulm, decomposition, and food for many inhabitants.
  18. This survey is interesting, and worth the short time it takes. The OP has been very informative.
  19. I prefer Safari on my iPhone over the mobile app, but here is a thread:
