  2. Thank goodness they didn’t do this. They would have broken every tank for disaster comedy!
  3. This forum is gold, and we are here to help. The forum is free, so what is your problem? We can help you solve it.
  4. We have a pinned thread for Fluval light programming:
  5. I have decisions to make. My organic soil bar at the local composter has closed, because they got bought out by a local waste/recycling business when Vermont mandated food composting. The Askoll 20 tank soil may still be viable, but sand has choked it out from properly recycling mulm and fish waste. I have three retired tubs in my folks’ basement since my outdoor tubs experience. I may use the holiday break to pull those tubs, and sort the substrate with my five sifters, as well as the Askoll substrate, mostly to remove sand. I will continue to keep organic substrate tanks, with 1-1.5 inches of organic topsoil, and the most minimal gravel cap to keep plants rooted.
  6. Thanks @Beardedbillygoat1975! It was single-species until I moved all the inhabitants out of my Askoll 20, so it also has SAEs, Otocinclus, Bloodfin tetras, and Amano shrimp. I need to fix the substrate in my Askoll 20, to get the layering right, and as much sand removed as possible. I know a lot more than when I first set up that tank a couple of years ago. I have gotten better growth with every subsequent tank, so time to loop back.
  7. @Jennifer V, I drafted a long reply about organic soil with gravel caps. It might be easier to skim my journal for what I have learned. It is all I do, besides some of my wet houseplants with mulm, wood, and anubias.
  8. I didn’t know which shipping thread to reply to for a winter Co-Op shipment, so I picked this one. I sent this to @Candi: These notifications are gold. Vermont got wicked cold, and I was able to run home from work to bring everything inside and pull the plants to warm up. The heat pack did its job, but was cold after a long journey. The plants look good!
  9. Please start a thread on this fainting gene, as this is the first I have heard of it!
  10. With Fluval lights, I do not not go above 1-2% blue on established tanks, unless I want to grow more algae.
  11. @Ophitoxaemia, Diana Walstad mentioned that underwater potted plants don't have the same soil longevity and mulm-nutrient-decomposition rejuvenation as plants in a full organic soil tank.
  12. You are taking wet houseplants very seriously!
  13. @Torrey, I love that your spouse has gotten more interested! I have kept leopard danios, but not zebra danios. They look sweet!
  14. I did a watercolor painting of a Kestrel as a kid and my folks still have it framed at their house.
  15. I won’t be doing a tree this year, but I see many Die Hard ornaments, with the protagonist in vents!
