  1. That looks like exactly what it is!! In a research paper it even has something resembling dots on its head, not as many as mine but believable. The fin structure they show in the paper more closely matches as well! Mine has not developed the coloring on the tips but maybe it will. Thank you! All in all they should play well with my neocaridina shrimp and neon gobies. It also seems like they are pretty rare, so that may be a lucky find for me. This is fun, now I have a goby that can get a name. I have not been able to find discernable differences with the neons to tell them apart. Thanks again,
  2. I assumed the eggs would be more edible as well. 😞
  3. My bladder snails are doing such a good job of keeping my air line tubing and other little parts clean. They are great so far. I do have to remove quite a few egg sacks out every week because they are on a breeding mission.
  4. That was worried about being annoyed with the same thing. I positioned my handle inwards from the edge of glass so that it cleared my light when pushed back. Then I pushed the handle inwards just a little more to act as a prop for the glass so that the glass did not sit on the light when open. It can be a little hard to open and close with the reduced leverage though.
  5. Thank you for the reply The size and behavior was one thing. It is larger and less timid. It reminded me more of my lipstick gobies than my neons. My neons would immediately hide. He just stayed out and was not eating to help his case. He had since eaten, and does eat in a similar manner to the neon. The biggest tell is the coloring though. All 5 of my other neons fairly closely match in appearance. The neons have longitudinal coloring and this one has vertical bars. The neons also have a colored band that goes around their head that he has not shown yet. It has not shown and hints of color yet. This one also has more colored fins and slightly differently colored fins. Finally this one has a bunch of spots behind its head which none of my neons have.
  6. Good afternoon all, I went and got the last two neon blue gobies they had at the fish store. One in the bag looked kind of big to me. When I got home I looked closer and this one definitely looks and acts a little different than the other 5 I have. Is it just a big neon, or is it something else? Thank you.
  7. No I did not, I only have a sponge filter and the box filter with sponge and filter floss in it. I was only doing water changes to remove the meds. Are you suggesting adding carbon to the box filter to pull it out as opposed to just doing water changes?
  8. I am on my second round of quarantining fish. My rough idea that I am trying to do is 1 week of the med trio. Then letting them sit for a total of 4 weeks to get the second treatment of Paracleanse in at week 3. After the Med Trio and 3 daily 40% water changes, I start adding filter floss from my established tank and putting it into the quarantine tank box filter every 5 days or so. I have also put one serving of the Fritz bacteria in as well only to see nothing developing. I am assuming that Maracyn is the main issue that hurts that bacteria, but I don't comprehend for how long. Tank parameter are 70 degrees temp, 14 degrees GH, 7 degrees KH, 8.2 PH, 10 Nitrate, 0.25 ammonia, 0 nitrite, tap water does not read chlorine on the test strip but I treat with Prime. I am mainly having issues with getting a cycle started so I do not have to water change while the second round of Paraclense is in. How long after a Med trio treatment is it reasonable to expect a cycle to develop?
  9. I am probably not the best to model after, I am still trying to figure it out. I have a 10 gallon aquarium with a box filter, a sponge filter, some substrate and some rocks in it. Right now I've been leaving the fish in there for 4 weeks and starting them with the med trio. The fish I want are wild caught so I'm more fearful of parasites and such. There are some other threads here about quarantine processes. You can find some more experienced opinions in those threads.
  10. I have not yet, I will likely grab another one when I get another batch of fish to go through quarantine. I'm only on my second batch of quarantined fish.
  11. I paid $20 for mine that also did not make it through quarantine.
  12. This is version number one. It is running well so far, but only has water in it. It also does not have the air stone in it. If it is not leaking over night I will put the worms in it. However, in its final position it will be hard to take a picture of. As the worms are sensitive to freshly dechlorinated water, I plan on removing the bottom bucket to do a water change on my 10 gallon tank. That is why the coupler is there.
  13. It will essentially be tiny sump on the tank, but I will get a picture when I do. I think I will rinse out the unscented one more just to hedge my bets. The sump bucket will be a basic one but can be changed out at any time. Water changes on it will be super easy.
  14. I have a cat, so I have a bunch of kitty litter buckets (Tidy cats Performance). I think they would make a nice tank for my black worm culture because I can easily put a bulk head in their side due to their rectangular shape. In my mind a bulkhead and another bucket will make it more like managing a 6 gallon aquarium as opposed to a 1.5 gallon aquarium like I am currently. I have two of the "performance type litter" containers that have been bleached and rinsed out multiple times when I was cleaning rocks. I also have a container of the "free and clear litter type" which is and unscented and carbon based variant, but it has not been rinsed as much. So, I could use the more natural one as one of the buckets if that would be better. After bleaching/rinsing the buckets multiple times do you think there would be any leftover residue from the litter that would negatively effect my blackworms or the goby's I feed them to? I can obviously buy other buckets and storage containers but these are such a good size for how I would want to use the bucket. Thank you 🙂
