  1. Here is a wonderful thread about bringing bettas back from the brink @Nicolem. I’ve learned everything about betta care from this thread. Grab a warm beverage and have a read.
  2. Oh no. I’m so sorry for your struggles/losses. I went through this myself until the first offspring (and before you educated me on the drip water changes, which I use a ladder and a bucket for) 🙂 - I also had to buy several more shrimp (4) in the process to replace my casualties, and once I did that everyone started mating. I believe fungus is the main concern for eggs. Isn’t that why the females fan the eggs? The tumbler seems like a good move provided the bubbles won’t hurt the babies, as shrimplets are teeny tiny! I could see them getting knocked around and pushed all over the place but I don’t know for sure. However, leaving the eggs to sit would probably be worse. They could encase in biofilm and then that’s it. Are you saying you were successful in hatching some shrimplets?
  3. There’s not a lot of algae in there at this time; this is my concern. Maybe I will allow those leaves to remain and whoever wants them can eat them. I’m scared to feed them because they’ve already made a bunch of babies; I keep seeing more.
  4. Last 2 or 3 days I noticed an issue. Plant leaves. Are the plants really doing poorly or is something eating the plants? They look green and healthy but I keep having to remove leaves from the surface. These are indeed bladder snails, yes? Not pond snails? And supposing there is not enough algae for bladder snails to eat, would they eat the plants? @Guppysnail @Odd Duck
  5. @Cory talked about that in his old tank syndrome video. Just topping off would cause a mineral buildup over time and the fish living in the tank would get used to it but when you add new fish they die. The reason for their death would not be determined by the usual parameter tests…
  6. I think the dirted substrate method is good in the short time (1 month) I’ve tested it (Walstad shrimp jar). I will not, however, bring leaf litter etc in from the wild. Lav from Lav’s snails got snail leeches doing this and they wiped out 8 of her tanks and hundreds of the snails she was breeding because they were resistant to fish hobby meds…
  7. Non-drip water changes can trigger premature molts, and then they get stuck in the molt. Not sure if that applies to your situation or not.
  8. Did Buddy make a decision yet? @TheSwissAquarist be careful with drinking the water & the ice cubes in other countries; they may have contaminants that the locals are used to, but you are not. Travelers consider water to be potentially harmful, but forget about the ice cubes. Had a friend travel to Indonesia and her party got sick from ice cubes in their cocktails. Fortunately she did not have any and was ok. The others lost 2 days of adventuring because they were stuck in their hotel rooms 😞
  9. These look consistent with ammonia burns, which could have happened if you went through a mini-cycle while medicating; some of the meds can kill or slow the bacteria on the filter.
  10. I tried to, but the nitrates had other ideas. I am overstocked because I love snails too much 😬. The hornwort is taking off though, and I also have added maybe 7-ish stems of pothos; waiting for the root systems to get going.
  11. Goodness, yes. My Bolivian ram Snoopy is notorious for photobombing and even has her own journal with a collection of these photos. 👇 signature line : Bolivian ram journal
  12. Hmm, a king koopa nerite might be a good tankmate. Its body is really not exposed due to its shell shape. Also they go through periods of dormancy (2-3 weeks at a time), and the pea puffers may not realize it is alive.
  13. Cucumber feeding frenzy. Last time I fed cucumber I noticed the bladder snails took no interest 😈
  14. Snoopy always quality checks the Snello, then remembers she doesn’t like the calcium powder…
  15. I don’t care, as long as they are not in my tanks. 🙂 Seeing them in person, they are really really small. Even the adults are small. Like an orange seed.
  16. I did get a little kit from them before! It had 3 cholla wood & 5 catappa leaves combo pack. @TeeJay likes Harryshrimpstore too.
  17. Hey.. actually! I think I saw it on Harryshrimpstore (Etsy) this week! Maybe that’s where you saw it too.
