  1. Sand no I just stir it up some at the surface and vacuum out what floats off other wise you will just suck out all of the sand.
  2. I'm also curious then are your lights sitting on the rim or do you have them installed above somehow? I would just be too worried about fishing jumping out and humidity.
  3. With regards to an official Discord Cory already stated that it would just be one more thing for them to have to moderate I think having this site pretty much serves the same purpose.
  4. For those that dont keep lids on their aquariums I'm curious as to why is it just costs or? Does get expensive with proper lids for a lot of tanks but I've gone the DIY method.
  5. Pretty much any floating plant which would also include hornwort, wisteria, water sprite, pogostemon octopus.
  6. I'd test and see where your nitrates are and make a decision about a water change from there.
  7. 8. There is a different type of bacteria that digests ammonia and a different one for nitrite so it sounds like its still maturing the only way to try and speed it up is to add some material from an established tank or adding bottled bacteria.
  9. Welcome I live in Ohio too lol
  10. My next two tanks are experimental: 1) 20 gallon tall with undergravel filter (going old school) 2) 7.5 Gallon cube trying my first Waldstadt type tank
  11. I see. Sounds like a decent plan a lot of people seem to chase numbers so I always caution against that especially PH let us know how it goes 🙂
  12. Why are you trying to lower your PH?

How long has the tank been running? When did you add the shrimp?
  14. No reason not to use salt with plecos
  15. I personally find that “feature” annoying I run sponge filters almost exclusively and see it all the time as long as the temperature is steady should be fine I run 3-4 of those at a time.
  16. I see tiger barbs not sure what else is in there but they'll take out snails or make it so they dont want to come out of their shells.
  17. Honestly aside from having a dud the only other things I could think of is maybe the canister head isnt seated or sealing properly or maybe its got air stuck in and it needs to be primed a bit more when its been taken apart.
  18. Thats the one I'm doing its Kanaplex and Furan 2. its ripping through my quarantine tank right now.

  20. As a whole yes but look at it as just like treating with meds they will get stressed and that causes potential complications with individuals.
  21. I'm in the middle of dealing with my first and major columnaris outbreak wish you guys the best lost a couple hundred dollars worth of fish already and only 3 days into treatment 😞 I was thinking maybe the original spot was scarring? Also maybe laying dormant and is being brought on by some sort of stressor.
  22. Ok so a couple of things: 40-80 ppm is too high the kind of rule of thumb is anytime you get over 40 ppm its time to do a water change ASAP for plants to thrive you want to be in the 10-20 ppm range because even high levels of Nitrates are bad for plants and fish. That being said you may want to revisit your water change schedule around these numbers especially very small tanks water parameters can go south much faster than larger tanks keeping in mind Easy Green will add nitrates to your water. Lastly I love banana plants but they aren't a plant alone that will soak up a bunch of nitrates and wouldn't rely on balancing a tank around for that purpose. Hopefully that helps and makes sense.
