  1. Ok thanks when I just saw Parrotfish I was like doh out of my realm lol! What other fish do you have in the tank? I thought I saw a guppy? Sounds like you had the fish prior to the water softener being installed? Honestly if they physically look ok and seem to be acting ok then they should be fine but if you want to put some more hardness back into the water you could use wonder shells, crushed coral, seachem equilibrium. Most importantly just make sure that Ammonia and Nitrite are at 0 of course and stability on the parameters rather than chasing a number.
  2. Garden hose quick connect easy peasy no need to screw into the faucet
  3. Hmmmm yeah that filter should be able to handle a 29 with no issue I would just double check to make sure you the have all the sponges seated correctly and in the proper spots maybe look at a youtube video (just in case) Also like I do with all my canister filters (when I still ran them I also have a 207) I put some finer sponge/filter floss to line the bottom of the trays.
  4. Did you rinse the media before putting anything in it? ie. bio rings, purigen etc.
  5. My "Chill" tank is an all male guppy tank full of color I can watch them all day!
  6. Should be fine see my post above start there and see how it goes
  7. Just starting out I wouldnt test everyday make it easy on yourself just do the one dose wait a week and see how it looks and dial in the dosing from there.
  8. Well, that water sounds good for plants I don't think I'd like to have to work around it for fish though do you know if you are on a well? If its coming out of the tap with that much nitrates and some ammonia you probably only need to dose something like potassium and trace minerals but you will probably also want to see what your GH and KH are if possible. So if you wanted to get it down to 20 ppm nitrates and thats whats out of the tap it would need another large water change.
  9. Just realized it looks like we are talking saltwater hopefully someone else can help I think most of the members here are going to be freshwater only. Good luck!
  10. The plan seemed ok up until the Chinese Algae Eaters and Angel fish that definitely will not work in that tank I would also probably just stick to 1 Bolivian Ram other than that the rest seems fine to me. Also as stated make sure to get a water test kit and don't add all the fish at once add them over time and let us know how it goes.
  11. Sleepy

    Is this pop eye?

    Thats a good starting dose
  12. I would actually ask the question of why use carbon at all especially in a planted tank honestly.
  13. Without knowing if you have any livestock or what the other plants are that you have easy green every other day is a lot and probably the cause especially it being a new tank without well established plants I would probably do a 50% water change and test regularly before dosing more and seeing how the plants look.
  14. I typically like to leave new plants in the pots for about a week to get used to my water before planting them but yeah you are probably just experiencing some melt.
  15. You’re going to want to test your water at the tap I would suggest getting the api master test kit and a gh/kh test kit (the co-op sells both) to know exactly what you are starting with and go from there.
  16. Can't fully say from the pics but if they were bloated and the scales popping out that would be dropsy which is really unlikely for them to recover from.
  17. That 0.5 Ammonia is definitely not good you're going to want to take care of that first and foremost did you test nitrite also?
  18. Mouseturd pretty much hit the nail on the head (love the name btw lol) the one other part to clarify is that redosing a couple weeks later is for the possibility of any eggs etc. internally from previous parasites that hopefully got cleansed on the first round. I personally don't add fish to my tanks for about 4 weeks to see how they are after medicating.
  19. If you have zero algae I'm thinking the light may not be doing the trick especially that high above the water line but I only use LED lights so take that with a grain of salt. It sounds to me like you will definitely need to up your ferts I'm just not sure how its going to balance out with the light you are using maybe dose up to 10 ppm and see how it goes from there.
  20. I also have several Google devices at my place so I can just tell it to turn off the heaters for me or whatever without reaching for my phone.
  21. I personally use smart plugs and smart strips for everything cant link to amazon here though
  22. Some people consider them pest snails but a lot of people like them I personally like them and think they are good for a tank as part of a clean up crew.
