  1. What temperature do you keep the tank at?
  2. It’s always best to have more females than males. This way the male can’t direct all of his aggression at one female. I have 5 A.nijsseni (2 males & 3 females) in a 20L each female has her own cave and a large piece of drift wood along with the plants provide plenty of visual breaks. The result is a fairly peaceful tank. There are also Cory’s, Otto’s, and Tetras in the tank.
  3. I don’t think your going to get a conclusive answer. There are so many variables like foot traffic patterns around the tank, lighting strength and or length of time, activity of tank mates etc it would be difficulty to pinpoint one thing that would cause them to hide. I have Ottos in all my tanks the most being 4 in a 120 and they’re out all the time granted you have to look for them occasionally but they’re out and eating.
  4. I hatch 1 tsp of eggs, strain and rinse the whole hatch and feed half of it to the fish. I rinse out the hatchery then fill it with clean water pour the remaining bbs in and then turn the air on and get a second feeding.
  5. Silvertips in my experience are neurotic, constantly flying around the tank.
  6. Watching @BobSteenfott’s latest live stream and he basically said if you’ve seen one Discus tank you’ve seen them all because the tank mates are all the same Cardinals and Rams. Discus want warm water so whatever you put in that tank better like it too. My Discus share their tank with Bosemani Rainbows, Rummynose,Emperor, and Cardinals Tetras, Pencilfish, Ottos, Kribs,Angelfish and Cory’s. So what do the rest of the Discus keepers here house with their Discus?
  7. Check Amazon they’ve got filters for every budget. I don’t think your tanks are overstocked.
  8. The java fern in my tanks grow plantlets on the end of the leaves. They have a full root system so they can be removed and replanted.
  9. Kribs water parameters soft, acidic around 80F with lots of plants and some caves.
  10. I’ve got my tanks set on 3 light periods totaling 10 hrs 7-9 AM, 12-3 PM, and 6-11 PM. My tanks are all planted.
  11. Water changes and live bbs.
  12. @Ben_RFjust be aware that the Ziss is best at biological filtration but with that small sponge on the bottom mechanical filtration not so much. I’m in hurricane county as well.
  13. @Ben_RF Why does it have to be either or? I’m running both in a 40 breeder and intend on doing that for the foreseeable future. The Ziss is doing the bulk of the biological filtration while the hob handles the mechanical end.
  14. Ditto this ^^. In my experience as long as the Angelfish is similar to or smaller than the Discus it will be fine.
  15. Do you feed any sinking pellets or are you just feeding flake?
  16. You’ll be surprised how much stuff a coarse sponge on your intake keeps from getting into your filter which reduces the number of times you need to clean your media.
  17. @RummyKnowsMy 120 is built into a wall and there was only clearance for 1/2" tubing on one end so with the lack of clearance and that I couldn't have intake & return on opposite ends of the tank we went with an Eheim 3 Pro canister. If there was more room I definitely would have gone with a sump. I have 1 Finnex Stingray 2.0 on this tank with java fern, bacopa, water sprite, saggitatrius, dwarf waterlily, amazon sword, pogostemon, and anubias all growing well. I keep Discus in this tank but it isn't a Discus tank it's very much a community tank with Bosemani Rainbows, Cardinal, Emperor, & Rummynose Tetras, Pencilfish, Ottos, a single male Krib and a dozen Cory's and yes the Discus spawn in this tank.
  18. @DanielI think you'll be very happy with your purchase.
  19. @siniardemThey either hang lights from the ceiling or mounted to a wall.
