Hello. I've been wanting to set up a new tank and have fell in love with dwarf cichlids. I've been trying to do some research over the past few days and haven't quite found the answers I'm looking for. I have a tank setup in mind I'm just not sure it would work and would rather get opinions on what others think before committing to it. I was thinking of doing a 40 gallon breeder with 3 German Blue Rams (1M 2F) and 3 Apistogramma Cacatuoides (1M 2F). I would want to also add some shrimp and some snails. Would something like this not work due to species compatibilities or perhaps too many fish? Maybe the opposite and I could add in a small school of tetras or corys? Thanks!

Hello fishy friends! I think the dwarf cichlid group holds some of the most captivating fish! One of my absolute favourites hands down is the Apistogramma Baenschi. The large spikey dorsal fins almost make them look like little fish punks and to top off with a bright blue sheen body and orange accents to their fins they really draw the eye. I'm interested what are your favourite cichlids or a must to keep one day? 🙂

so I am thinking I want to set up a Walstad method tank, and I have some kribs in qt. the concern is they will dig and cloud up the tank from what I understand a walstad tank is top soil capped with gravel sand. I want to breed them will that be a issue? sorry if that was confusing 😅I got a new tank so I am exited thinking about what I want to do

This is my first apisto. he was sold to me as a cacatuoides double red male from an LFS, unsure of the age but he's about 2 inches long total and I've had him a week. I believe he is indeed a male because of the longer spikes at the front of his dorsal fin, but I'd like to know what others think. I'm also wondering is he really a double red? He has that one spot on his tail but otherwise he seems to be starting to color up orange. Could he be an orange flash? Or is he just still getting his coloring? If he is a male double red, when should I expect to see more color? Currently he's alone in quarantine

I was out of the hobby for quite a while if you don’t include the 1000 gallon Koi pond I dug in the backyard of my old home. I keep Discus in a 120 community tank and I also have Kribs, Rams and Apistogramma nijsseni and cacatuoides in smaller tanks. I live in an area with1 LFS (and they do mostly marine) and a couple of chain stores so not much available outside of the run of the mill so I’ve been getting my fix on Aquabid and other online sources. I’m looking forward to some good discussions.

Hey folks, I’m thinking about getting an Apistogramma pair for a 20 gallon tank. It will be fully planted and I know to use sand and even build them a little cave which I’m doing (tank isn’t finished yet). The tank mates will be neon tetras and possibly amano shrimp or pygmy corydoras. I won’t be getting the pair any time soon, probably months away and I’ve been doing research but I was curious if anyone here has experience they can share provide advice. Thank you

When I first got these two dwarf flag acaras, they colored up and laid eggs right away but the tank wasn’t ready for fry. Now I’m ready and they aren’t breeding anymore. Anyone have tips to encourage that other than having a flat stone surface for them? Pictures below of them in their “normal state” and some of them while they were guarding the nest. Amazing color change!
