You know that you have a nice aquarium when all the suggestions are about adding, and not subtracting.

I kept a couple in a stable 16 gallon tank, even adding a lid. They were great, and then they were gone. I should have kept many more together.

If you pick the right piece of wood, you can drop it like a tripod, without having to move any plants. Your tank looks stable, so it is fun to think of ideas.

Hey, it looks Shire-comfy! In the second photo, are we mostly seeing cryptocoryne and anubias, or do you have some bucephalandra in there too? That is the plant type I want to explore more. If you really want a suggestion, perhaps add a piece of your favorite wood! Cheers

Aesthetically, a sponge in each back corner is nice in wide tanks.

Dwarf water lettuce - phosphate deficiency?
Streetwise replied to Phinny's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Good point @Jungle Fan! I could even see droplets on the leaves acting as lenses. I've had some emergent plants get a little toasted when they grew too close to the light in a couple of tanks. I actually removed my lid from my 16 bow just a week or two ago because I had added water lettuce and it wasn't growing-in as well as in my open tanks. -

The 36th America's Cup is now underway in New Zealand. This is a test of engineering and sailing skill. These are the highest-technology sailboats, but all the power comes from humans, the wind, the water, and physics. Electronics are for data and control, but not automation. Any stored power is generated by humans creating hydraulic pressure.

I had some urban friends who got backyard chickens, enclosed in wire fencing. They also had pet Dachshunds, so this is a very short story.

Dwarf water lettuce - phosphate deficiency?
Streetwise replied to Phinny's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
Water lettuce is pretty bulletproof, as long as it doesn’t have a a massive spray-bar or waterfall dunking the leaves. I have to give mine away because of the rapid growth. Maybe I will try to trade another bucket at my LPS. -

Shrimp are low-impact. Any size sponge should be fine, so it is more of an aesthetic choice. In my 16 and 20 gallon tanks, I tend to use a Nano in each of the back corners, or a singular Nano or Small in smaller tanks. In very short tanks with substrate, I may omit the lift tube. To keep going, I like the Small or Medium in buckets and small tubs, depending on height. These are three great things about a sponge filter with shrimp: Safety Circulation Grazing Let the detritus collect, and enjoy watching your shrimp!

Should I Grow Algae Instead of Plants?
Streetwise replied to Frank's topic in Plants, Algae, and Fertilizers
@Frank, if you can get that algae to grow on wood or hardscape, it can be fun to keep. I use a pair of wooden skewers to remove what collects on plants, and donate it to the turtle and goldfish tanks at work.
