  1. I’ve also collected some nice drift wood. My gut says to just give it a light pressure wash and soak for a day or two. I’m going to use it for a new tank so I’ll have time to test parameters before adding fish. Is yours from Puget Sound?
  2. My snails love to eat Hikari Crab Cuisine . They’re supposed to have supplemental calcium. I swear my snails come up to the waterline to beg for these things!
  3. @Daniel, That looks really interesting. It’s sort of hard to tell from the diagram, but it looks like you could light a 4’ tank with only one of those with the 110 degree reflector.
  4. You could try the ADA method of using a chopstick to make a level line to trim across.
  5. - Every single tank at aquarium Co-op - I can’t believe this is a chain store -Top ten nano fish for freshwater aquariums -Aquarium PH, KH and GH for beginners (and all of Elaine’s vids for beginners) - Teeny, Tiny ideas for your Nano aquarium
  6. It’s a great place to visit. The betta rack will blow your mind! The tanks are perfectly maintained and all the staff I’ve had contact with are friendly and professional. They’ve even let my daughter watch Murphy devouring some clams. If there’s a wait to get in they’ll give you a little alarm to let you know when it’s your turn. They’re also asking folks to only spend 20 min in the store. If you’re looking for a meal, the Edmonds/Shoreline area has some of the best Korean restaurants in the Seattle metro area. There are some other fish stores not to far away that are worth a visit. I really enjoy the local ADA dealer.
  7. Great vid, and the cories look nice on the black substrate.
  8. I feed the same as @FlyingFishKeeper, but I feed Crab Cuisine more often just so I can watch the action.
  9. I’ve been keeping them in a three gallon with soft tap water. I added some wonder shell to increase GH and after some deaths I settled on no water changes, just top offs. I finally got some to breed and haven’t had any recent deaths.
  10. I’ve found that running some filter floss is a great, cheap way to clear up your water fast.
  11. I’m not sure how you filter is configured but you might want to add the intake sponge and let it cycle for a few weeks before replacing the media in the filter box. That way you’ll still have some beneficial bacteria going to avoid a potential cycle crash.
  12. I bought a couple of berried Orange from a local shop’s mixed tank. Not unexpectedly I now have a bunch of browns, but surprisingly they also made some that look like the Deep Blues.
  13. I have a Nicrew on a Nano tank and plants are growing great. I’m even getting pearling. The stingray might not be that big of a step up.
  14. Haha, that’s a lot of shrimp. They look great hanging out in the plants like that. Do you re mineralize at every water change?
  15. It’s a bit of a gamble. Your fish might eat them and they definitely don’t like soft water. I had the same situation and lost a bunch of $7 shrimp before I learned. Now I have them in a separate tank and I might try some in the community tank when the colony gets bigger.
  16. They like stable water parameters. If you’re doing regular water changes for the fish make sure you’re keeping things stable and your water falls within the parameters for Neocaridina.
  17. It’s been running for years with low Nitrate levels then you changed to a planted tank and added root tabs and liquid fertilizer, both full of Nitrogen. I think that’s the most likely suspect for the elevated Nitrate levels.
  18. 3-5 more fast growers would look good while you wait for Java Fern to fill in. The moss is going to look great!
  19. I’m setting up a standard 75, and finding it ok to work on, but a bit to tall. Ideally I would have a 120cm Japanese/European style. Most are around the same footprint of a 75 but a few inches more shallow. I’m just not willing to go from $75 to $750! Expample of a 120p maybe an ADA
  20. I’ve been experimenting with Wisteria for about six months now. None of the three bunches I’ve bought had been fully converted to underwater growth when I bought them. As the old growth dies I’ve cut the stem short and replanted it in the substrate and the new growth has been healthy and grows very fast.
  21. That store in Germany looks amazing! I love that they sell pre seeded filter media.
