My local small hardware store can cut glass rectangles, but I had to visit a glass store to get chamfered edges so that I would not have sharp edges. It was about the same price, and very affordable.

Thoughts on substrate on new dirted tank?
Streetwise replied to Demobanana's topic in General Discussion
This is what a tank looks like with tannins from two pieces of wood after 10 months of no water changes since setup. Yes, it does need more plants!- 17 replies

I apologize for all the extra mulm and tannins. Cheers to @Daniel for all his work, including tagging hundreds of threads, adding thumbnails, and encouraging nature!

@LOKelly, How are you doing with intentional algae and biofilm for continuous snack sources? Do you have wood for grazing?

Amazing @Betsy! What is that smoked salmon served on? Is that a bagel, toast, or something else?

Excellent outcome. @Colu, you keep helping people so well!

You may have to heat at some point depending on conditions and setup. Neocaridina can handle those conditions too, if you also want to do shrimp. Independent of any species stuff, I recommend that all tub-keepers provide some sort of escape tool for small rodents who might come for a drink! PS: Start a journal for this when you get to your setup phase, or I can move this thread if you want it to be your journal.

They can overwinter under ice! They are super hardy and versatile. I kept tubs last year in Vermont and when I brought them inside because Maple leaves were filling the tubs, the water was 52F. I’m going to drop some in my cousins’ artificial pond which is deep enough to not freeze to the bottom. You will really enjoy them! I documented mine in my Vermont journal linked in my signature.

This was my Betta tank until I moved her. I removed the wood and moved the tank. I need to plant the other 3.5s. It is quite the mess right now, which really makes me want to add shrimp.

I am all about organic soil tanks, generally with the Walstad book as my template, although I have updated my cap formula as I have learned more. All of my journals are in my signature.

Interesting, @xXInkedPhoenixX ! I don’t have the space to work on breeding more than shrimp. However, I did notice that my White Clouds dropped a bunch of eggs when I moved them indoors with new well water last year at my folks’ house.
