  1. I went no-tech with my 2.5 gallon shrimp tanks, but only after they were very well-seasoned, with the right amount of algae and biofilm. They are among the tanks in my Indoor journal, linked in my signature.
  2. What would happen if you introduced black beard algae next?
  3. @Fish Folk, please sit down and take a deep breath. I just learned that Domino's Pizza in Japan created Fish and Chips Pizza. Someone on Twitter accused them of making a food that "insults both England and Italy!"
  4. The fish were in tubs with similar conditions. I put them in a bucket for a day, and then added them to that tank on its second day. I moved plants from my tubs, and some of the water. This worked out well for the White Clouds, but the new tank was not messy enough for the Neo shrimp that were also moved indoors. This was an important lesson. I only keep shrimp in well-seasoned tanks now. I should add that this is a tank I run for my folks, so I only see it about once a month. When I visit, the last thing I want to do is a water change.
  5. That sounds like really good advice! Thanks @Jungle Fan! I was testing in tiny tanks.
  6. I tried stratum in two 2.5 gallon tanks, and it was very difficult to keep plants rooted. I went right back to my organic soil with gravel.
  7. My local small hardware store can cut glass rectangles, but I had to visit a glass store to get chamfered edges so that I would not have sharp edges. It was about the same price, and very affordable.
  8. This is what a tank looks like with tannins from two pieces of wood after 10 months of no water changes since setup. Yes, it does need more plants!
  9. As fellow hobbyists, we enjoy the suspense and progress. You are welcome to leave us with a cliffhanger!
  10. @DipDingle, @Phantom240, @Odd Duck, please add a journal link to your signature.
  11. With shy fish, you want them to always be able to find food!
  12. I apologize for all the extra mulm and tannins. Cheers to @Daniel for all his work, including tagging hundreds of threads, adding thumbnails, and encouraging nature!
  13. @LOKelly, How are you doing with intentional algae and biofilm for continuous snack sources? Do you have wood for grazing?
  14. @TheDukeAnumber1 looking like Thor with his entry: My entry as regular-sized man: Cheers from the landing zone!
  15. Looks great! Please add a journal link to your signature!
  16. We increased the storage-per-user this week. Please PM me if you get a storage-related error message.
  17. Put this awesome journal in your signature!
  18. Amazing @Betsy! What is that smoked salmon served on? Is that a bagel, toast, or something else?
  19. Aquarium Co-Op is handling memberships via YouTube. @James Black has shared the informational link.
  20. Excellent outcome. @Colu, you keep helping people so well!
  21. You may have to heat at some point depending on conditions and setup. Neocaridina can handle those conditions too, if you also want to do shrimp. Independent of any species stuff, I recommend that all tub-keepers provide some sort of escape tool for small rodents who might come for a drink! PS: Start a journal for this when you get to your setup phase, or I can move this thread if you want it to be your journal.
  22. They can overwinter under ice! They are super hardy and versatile. I kept tubs last year in Vermont and when I brought them inside because Maple leaves were filling the tubs, the water was 52F. I’m going to drop some in my cousins’ artificial pond which is deep enough to not freeze to the bottom. You will really enjoy them! I documented mine in my Vermont journal linked in my signature.
