  1. Could I add a different species of rainbowfish, to keep him happy?
  2. Yes, if you just put the angelfish in the aquarium it is normal for the angelfish to be a little territorial at first.
  3. The short answer is NO its not necessary, but I HIGHLY reccemond it. Not too long ago I had a ich outbreak in one of aquariums because I didn't qt a bristle nose pleco. I am also a teenager on a strict budget with not a lot of space. which is why i didn't have a qt tank. soon after I upgraded tanks and I am now using the smaller one now for a qt tank. If you are on a budget you could use the following as a qt tank -Clear storrage Rubbermaid, just cut holes on the top and use a spair heater/ filter. you do not need lights. keep it bair bottom as far as meds I would suggest the following: a ich treatment, API Melafix and API General Cure, also aquarium salt. but if your on a budget don't worry about getting these meds all at once I would not suggest adding the fish to the aquarium and medicate them because a lot of fish do not act well with meds when their not infected. you could be risking death. Do you have a desk? if so my idea would be to get a small little storage rubbermaid/ 5gallon aquarium as a QT tank and put in on the desk. along with if you have a dresser. Hope this helps!
  4. hey, I have just started keeping sand as the substrate with aquariums and I understand that with deep sand beds it can release deadly toxins and so you need to push the substrate around to prevent it. If I add corydoras/ geophagous will I have to push the sand around? Or as they scurry around the sand, will they do it for me?
  5. The reason why your nitrate levels are so high is because your aquarium is severley overstocked, either stick with the goldfish or the bettas. the reason why your goldfish is swimming head up is because of a few reasons, a crash in ph or high nitrate levels, I beleive its because of his swimmers bladder. what is your ph and nitrate levels at? if it is because of his swimmers bladder do the following turn temp up to 78F DO NOT feed for the next three days Use a small amount of aquarium salt

  7. should rainbowfish be kept with other rainbowfish? should they be the same species?
  8. Hello all, I am getting a betta for my shrimp tank but i don't want to quarintine him because my qt tank is a 10gallon, and his permanant tank is 5 gallons. And I don't really like the idea of downsizing him, especially if its a betta that probably hasn't been with other fish, meaning it probably won't have any parasites or deseases. Will invertibrates spead deseases to fish or vis versa?
  9. Your aquarium is severley overstocked and thats why the nitrate levels are so high. I would get rid of the snails and possibly even the neon tetras. You could keep the tetras you would just NEED to do weekly waterchanges. Are you feeding these guys anything? The snails and shrimps are competing for the same food source. What are your nitrites at?
  10. I wouldn't worry, these bubbels form when you add colder water to your aquarium, so like after a waterchange or a top off.
  11. in a 40 breeder I would add just ONE bristle nose pleco. As far as the rummynose and cardinals I would try maybe 6rummy nose 6cardinal tetras I think you could get -Pleco -Rummynose or Cardinal Tetras x6 -Corycats -Snail -Kuhli Loaches x2
  12. they are probably baby guppies because... -You probably would have noticed if the golfish laying eggs -It looks like a guppy fry -and you just added the onion plants to your 12g
  13. I feel like the cory cats would leave them aduldlt shrimp alone, maybe eat one or two. But you may have some probelms with the wiptail catfish.
  14. 1) Betta Fish 2) Neon Tetra 3) Crystal Red Shrimp
  15. hmm... I had a swordtail hide behind my filter ALL the time because he would constantly get bullied. Maybe your females are getting picked on by the male? don't worry about it as long as there not getting stuck behind there, if you want them to stop you can stick somr filter floss behind it.
  16. You should be fine adding the ottos. but you could also add a hillstream loach as they do prefer colder waters and will help you with your algae problems.

    Ich on Betta

to treat ich you should turn the temp up to 82, and does the reccemoneded amount for ich x every day. while using aquarium salt. It could just be the ich is getting better and thats why its not spreading. If you could try to send a picture of your betta and that way we can make sure its ich.
  18. A Hillstream loach would be fine in 76F. If all you have in that 45 Gallon is the 3 gouramis, hillstream loach, pleco your stocking is fine. and you could defenteley add more fish.
  19. How big is the aquarium your putting him in? also yes bristlenose pleco are a small species of pleco and probably wont grow beyong that 5inch mark
  20. a nice schooling fish like, cardinal tetra, rummynose tetra, neon tetra.
