  1. I have a “DEAN’S” French Onion Dip container! LOL But some of the new babies are just very difficult to see - I’ve been using the phone camera to zoom in and look at the substrate. I wouldn’t try siphoning yet. They need to grow some first. Then I would probably turkey baster into the dip container and watch for movement like @Bev C. Any kind of mesh or filter hinders mulm removal. Ohh I see. I do have little condiment containers with screw on lids that look like what he’s using on the end of the hose
  2. I specifically bought a stand for a 10g that had a shelf for a future 5.5g. And now here we are. Lol They sell another one of these where the 20g sits on top and a 10g can go underneath & you could always use the 5g as quarantine @TeeJay the solid black piece in the middle flips up for bottom tank access
  3. I’ve been trying to somehow make my fish room look tidier but my struggle is with the various buckets and siphons, and the long Python hose. I hide stuff in the pantry on the floor but I still don’t have a spot for everything. My fishroom is also where the kitchen table is at and where guests spend time.
  4. Lol It sounds like the canister is pretty heavy. My friend has one. I was surprised how big it was.
  5. So @TeeJaywhat you could do is lay two curtain rods in the stand and use that as a middle shelf for lightweight stuff, little baskets of fish food or whatever. Baskets kind of like this Maybe you’d choose black to match the stand Or you could do a tension rod with a piece of nice looking shower curtain, and that would hang down in the front and hide the stuff under the stand. Keeping the area neater. Did you know Ace sells a 2 g white bucket? Perfect for water changes on 10 gallons
  6. It is a white block that looks like a seashell that you can break and drop a piece into your tank. It releases minerals into the water. I would not recommend moving your snail. It would further stress him. I would focus on getting your heater set and your tank temperature consistent. A bowl would not have the heat that he needs.
  7. So I have a ton of diatoms, hair algae, and microfauna in the tank right now. Do you think I should still add bacter ae @Minanora @TeeJay @Guppysnail?
  8. Disassembled the hob and cleaned it really well. (Media swished in tank water) Moved a sick fish to qt ☹️ See the particulates? Hence the HOB cleaning. Water change on the betta tank. + IAL tea
  9. I have to watch my back when taking out the trash. I live by the state park and the bears freely roam here, especially when humans “put out the buffet”.
  10. Agreed. Once you set the temp on the heater just leave it plugged in and it will warm the water to that temperature and shut itself off. If the temperature drops the heater is programmed to detect that and will begin to heat it again. This keeps your tank temperature consistent and is less stressful to your creatures because it prevents fluctuations. Also your kH is low, you can add a piece of wondershell to the tank for your snail. It is not food. It is minerals. I had some of my snails at 75 and others at 78. In both tanks they were active. When you get a chance try to pick up an ammonia test kit. You can get the API one which is drops, or you can get the strips - the best brands of strips are aquarium co op or Tetra. Ammonia is the most toxic thing that could be in the water, so it’s good to know what level it is at (should be zero). For some reason the ammonia test is not on the multi strip. It’s because it’s a little bit different procedure.
  11. Ok thank you I will try it. Should I use the “tea” or just drop leaves in. Crispy leaves or boiled leaves? I already have some tea made. also cleaned the filter. Helper:
  12. I had 2 occurrences of columnaris, yes. Today’s issue is not columnaris though. Columnaris is flat grayish patches. This issue is white and raised, rounded dots. Nothing new was added to tank but I did transfer two mystery snails over from the shrimp tank. I would hate to think ich; doesn’t ich come from an external source, such as bringing in a new fish? I didn’t think it would just develop in an established tank. Level 1 salt added to QT.
  13. Geppetto has completed Kanaplex treatment and got 50% water change w/ tannins. He is doing well. I cleaned the algae off his resting leaves with a toothbrush. I will change another 50% tomorrow.
  14. Got up, got coffee. Let’s chill and just enjoy the tank. Sipppp… ahhh… oh no. Oh God no. DISEASE!!! Fortunately only one fellow (or gal) affected. Yet to ID it. Leaning towards ich-x or jungle fizz as treatment but nothing added to qt tank yet @Colu The bump on his body is raised and white. He has one on his dorsal fin as well. Also changed out 50% Geppetto’s Kanaplex water and added tannins back. The other 50% will get changed tomorrow. He is doing well. Lastly, way too much junk floating around in the 29g, so I guess today is the day to disassemble and do the deep clean on the HOB. Something I’ve been putting off. But maybe that’s why the fellow got ill. You can see the mess in the photos; it’s ridiculous. I did a bandaid fix of adding extra floss to the filter but it didn’t really solve it. Something filtrationwise is just not working. I have a sponge filter running in that tank also but it is not resolving the issue. All media gets rinsed in tank water once a week.
  15. There’s not that much chocolate in cupcakes, mostly sugar and flour and stuff. Fortunately for the dog! Oh I was making hamburgers one time. Went outside to fire up the grill. Came back in and the cat was on the counter and had taken several bites of the raw burger! He didn’t get sick or anything, he just got.. in trouble. 😆 Many cat foods have salmon as the main ingredient. 🤣
